Get one of these...
They block out the dust way better than a banana and are easy to pull down/up when drinking a beer. Get em wet to stay cool during the day. At night they can keep your a lil warmer.
These are solid but they come in a ton of patterns. A bunch of other brands make em too but I've only used these. Hope it helps. I might also look into getting a disposable nasal rinse.
Edit: also look up "padded sunglasses" or "motorcycle sunglasses". They also keep the dust out of the eyes better and they're super cheap on Amazon (put the yellow ones on when you're on drgz).
I do pretty much the same, but I use a buff.
I like them more than sweatbands because I have longer hair and it helps to keep it all in check. Plus, you can fold it over itself for extra absorbency. They're washable too and since they're so thin, they dry really fast. I think I've seen knock-offs for like 2-3$...
Okay I'm back. Thanks for the suggestions guys. Had better luck with the research this time and decided on getting this:
12-in-1 Headband [Solids] - Versatile Sports & Casual Headwear - Wear as a Bandana, Neck Gaiter, Balaclava, Helmet Liner, Mask & More. Constructed with High Performance Moisture Wicking Microfiber., Midnight Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00Q2L776G/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_yzd.ybYD9AYM0
Sorry I'm on mobile and kinda new to this. Seems pretty cool. Will update on its performance. Seems like it's what I was looking for. A bandana seemed like it would hold too much sweat.
Here in NY, I've been riding with just my mesh/leather hybrid jacket and short sleeves underneath; my friends think I'm nuts. The cold hasn't bothered me much besides my hands (which I bought silk glove liners to go under my leather gloves). I have a tube-style balaclava/neck gaiter similar to this one and a uniqulo packable down jacket that I carry in my sling pack and can wear under my jacket if I need it. You can probably find cheaper packable jackets on amazon to do the trick, but I really like and recommend the Uniqulo ones for the quality and warmth.
The dust was pretty bad last year and a lot of people were complaining about allergies, especially W2...
But I don't think that had so much to do with the increased attendance. Last year was the "superbloom" (lots of rain before the spring flowering session), which led to a huge increase in pollen and other stuff to make allergies worse. It was also really hot both weekends which meant the grass was extra dry and easily pulverized into powder. I wouldn't expect allergies to be so bad this year but the dust is at the mercy of the weather.
If you're worried about it get a buff/balaclava. These filter the dust better than a mask, you can turn/flip them when they get funky (from breathing into them all day), get em wet when it's hot, and they're easy to pull down/up when you're sipping on a beverage. Bonus points for looking like a bandito.
If dust in the eyes is a problem for you then get "motorcycle glasses". They're padded around the rims so they're great at keep dust out. I always bring a couple pairs and they've been a lifesaver for friends with sensitive eyes or contacts.
If your nose gets stuffed up get some disposable nasal rinses (they sell these at wallgreens/targer/ralphs/etc.). I broke the shit out of my nose playing football and they work great.
