So I literally just did my bathroom remodel DIY on a budget - and I primed then painted the tile floors “wrought iron” by Benjamin Moore which is a dark gray/almost black and did the contact paper for the countertop. Massive improvement for very little money.

For the countertop
you can make clear glass have an opaque frosted look either via stick-on films, or as a spray.
One drawback of a barristers bookcase is the shelves are not adjustible-- if you tend to get the Big boxes of cereal and other tall stuff, it would not be a good solution for you.
Another idea: Buy a metal shop cabinet and dress it up with paint and wallpaper.
Honestly for a shelf or something I'd just use wood grain contact paper.
If it's the "wood look" vinyl covering you are looking for, you could change any fridge to look similar...
