I have an RO right now but I plan on buying a few Berkeys for the future. I saw one guys set up where he had the Berkey connected to his rain gutters so he had filtered rain water to drink all the time. The dream!
If you have your own shower as opposed to communal, maybe consider installing a water-softening filter. I have this one and it seems to help with my sensitive skin. It’s easy to install and remove and doesn’t damage anything.
Get these filter shower heads and stop using hot water for hair.
Maybe I got a fake product, but I personally didn’t like Keratese when I bought it off Amazon. So, take my opinion with a grain of salt!
A lot of rogue hair dressers sell bulk 72oz bottles of olaplex shampoo and conditioner on eBay. I’ve bought it twice from two different sellers and both quality products. Pricey (about $300 for both), but it lasts me and my husband a full year.
I don’t wash everyday BECAUSE the hard water is sooooo crappy for hair and scalp health. Also, since I dont wash everyday (3x a week max, often 1-2x), I use a clarifying shampoo at least once a month. Nothing fancy, just Neutrogena and it works wonders. However, I’m planning on using Malibu Clarifying shampoo my next wash :)
I use this shower filter:
15 Stage Shower Filter - Shower... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07VM98BRF?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
I also put an AquaSana home filter on my home as well. I’m not sure how much it filters on its own, but they do pick up tonnnnsss of stuff when I end up cleaning/swapping out the filter itself.
Other than that, I do an at home keratin treatment (salon quality product off Amazon) once every six months or when I feel my hair matting lol Rejuvenol Brazilian 24hours... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KTESK5Y?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share also pricey, but I get 50+ treatments off that one bottle, as opposed to paying $300 at a salon to do it once.
I went overboard with more info, but I hope it helps. The oiling, shampooing less, shower filter has helped 90% of the problem - the other 10% is me being extra lol
I personally used mielle 2x a day on my scalp (mostly my hairline area) only when I was not using minox, now that I'm on minox I use mielle only on the length and ends of my hair to try to let minox have it's full effect on the scalp. Mielle strengthens your hair so really it's beneficial either way! It was a hard decision for me to get on minox, but many people say they wish they would've started it sooner which ultimately led me to decide to use it and I don't regret it.
as for the hard water, I was diagnosed with seborrhea and the derm said I could be losing hair from that. After going to the derm 4 times, using every topical thing I could think of to try to get rid of it, nothing worked. I then went away for work for a week and my "scalp issues" were gone. So this whole time it was a water issue for me...(mixed with TE from mental stress, illness, etc...) This is the one I ordered and have noticed a difference: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07VM98BRF?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1
Thank you! It is truly so stressful during the waiting period. Sending you positive vibes, there is hope!
I ended up getting this one on Amazon. Definitely think that made the biggest difference between the two washes!
Get a shower water filter! I had that exact problem and it helped tremendously.
If the hardness of the water is the issue then you can get a shower head filter like this
