The Porlex's grind quality is perhaps a small step up from the Skerton, but the Porlex handle has a bad habit of flying off and getting hollowed out with use. The Porlex is good as a travel grinder, but I'd say it's pretty unsatisfying as an everyday-affair. I used one every day at the office before upgrading to an Encore. The upgrade was money well-spent.
If you are still set on getting a Porlex-type grinder, I'd suggest getting a knock-off instead. The parts are all exactly the same, and it'll save you $30. But really, if you have some extra money, I'd suggest getting a Baratza grinder or a Capresso Infinity or a Bodum Bistro. They'll all get you better grind quality for less hassle.
