I've had some LED's left over in my garage from commercial installs for a while now (we don't use WLED, but similar controller system) .
Today I finally got around to putting up temporary lights for myself. I'll be moving soon so I just did a very easy install that took less than 2 hours and can easily be removed.
I'm using 12V 20mm LED point lights from a supplier in China. They usually clip into 20mm holes in an aluminum track that is secured to the soffit. However, as I'm moving, I just used Christmas Light clips to hold them up without any track. They are controlled by a QuinLED-Dig-Quad that is installed in a repurposed security camera power box.
They are connected at the one end using 16/3 SJOOW cable. Although there is Voltage drop at the end, with this few lights I don't have any power taps. Although adding one on the end might help as the voltage is around 10.5. However, I rarely used bright white so it doesn't bother me.
The other photos are of some testing I was doing. Trying to see how small of a cable I could use to power these LEDs. The (-) is connected using a piece of 24awg ethernet cable and the + is connected using a tiny sliver sized piece of copper from a speaker cable. I'm running an SP108e, combined with the LEDs its drawing 1.7A at 5v. After 2 hours neither cable is hot. But always use the proper cable and cable size for your lights!
