For anyone who has not read 1984 from Georges Orwell here is a link to Amazon to purchase and educate yourselves. Just imagine the same story but with a Philip K. Dick twist integrating 21st-century tracking technology on citizens.
You are technically correct (best kind)
however many editions of the book have been published with only the number "1984" on the cover
When even the publisher gets it wrong, it's hard to find much fault in random internet comments
>As someone already said...for now. Get a hard copy, just in case. 1984 is, frankly, scarily prescient.
Paperback can be had for less than $8
1984 - George Orwell
Its called "1984" by George Orwell. If you ever hear the term "Orwellian" that originates from his work in "1984".
Oceania has always been at war with Eastasia. Since the beginning of your life, since the beginning of the Party, since the beginning of history, the war has continued without a break, always the same war.
u/Bandicoot-Particular, yes, exactly. And that's what George Orwell warned us all about in his famous book, "Nineteen-Eighty Four."
Hmm, that's a good question. It was written in the aftermath of WWII, so it was likely written as a warning of both Communism and Fascism, both of which take a heavy handed view of government and encourage a mob mentality vs. individualism and freedom. So, I guess it would depend on your personal point of view. The world which is presented in the book is certainly not a Christian one and something we as Christians should oppose. Here is the link to it on Amazon. Their description is much better than the one on Goodreads. https://www.amazon.com/1984-Signet-Classics-George-Orwell/dp/0451524934/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=1984&qid=1629752988&sr=8-1

Just in case you're serious, he's referencing the book 1989 by George Orwell
> CGP Grey did a video called "This video will make you angry," and it literally shows what our modern discourse has devolved into.
2 minutes of hate per day, that's all we ask.
You can BUY THE BOOK ON AMAZON:
Come ON reddit, can’t we be better than falling for this over shared Facebook conspiracy meme? 1984 was never banned in the country. This is either being propped up by misinformation agencies, or reddit has lost it’s damn mind.
Allow me to explain... it's a book. You know, those things made of paper, with pages. You click the linky above, and then you use your eye balls, and you read words on the pages. They are scary words. Words about the darkest parts of human nature. Words that will make your thoughts that you yourself posted here, seem absurd even to you after you've read them. Ask mommy or daddy to buy that book for you.
There, now I was a prick.
This is literally 1984
not banned in the USA. you can get it delivered by Tomorrow if you order in the next 2 hours
You seem to have misunderstood the concept of the term "thoughtcrime". Here's a link to the authoritative treatise on the subject if you want to brush up.
If you don't want to hear it from me, hear it from someone who I think you'll trust.
I hope people will use this money to buy a copy of George Orwell's 1984 book.
Because the irony would be so wasted on the stupid.
here’s a link to it on Amazon
"This is literally 1984."
here you go my dude, read it and realise how silly you look.
Free pdf, looks to be entirely intact at a glance.
iTunes money-grubbing horseshit.
Amazon overpriced nonsense.
Fair warning, depressing book.
Winston must have been assigned the task to "correct" the double plus ungood stats that contradict the party narrative.
Don't know what I'm talking about? Read all about it here:
so you want a world like 1984 or V for Vendetta where no one aside from a very very very select few have any say whats being said on the radio and what shown on tv and whats taught to children. god have you been practicing getting down on your knees to lick boots since birth or is this a recent development.

"1984" was a book of social science fiction written in 1949 by George Orwell describing a dystopian, totalitarian future world. The graffiti on this sign indicates that the defacer thinks this candidate supports the same totalitarian policies criticized by Orwell's work.
The book used to be required reading in most secondary or university schools and was presented as a warning against the creeping threat of socialism.

> "It was he who freed the first of us." -Morpheus
Don't read too much of him though at first, go back and read the greats. Vonnegut. Orwell. Thucydides. Plutarch. Caesar. Heinlein. Spengler. Some more Heinlein. Maybe even Hoover if you want to get mad at globalism too.
Then you'll know why we fight and what we're fighting for. The SJW must be destroyed.
Government should never be the final arbiter of what is truth. That's how you get totalitarian governments, as they accumulate more and more power over time.
this one is unabridged and has the newspeak appendix at the back.
Trust big brother. This is what your advocating for.
> we will, for the first time, truly have to work together as a race. it is the only way we can survive getting out of this century,
I'm fairly confident that given historical trend we will emerge from this century just fine. Admittedly if you believe in the notion of the Four Turnings, then we could very well be in a 4th cycle which could mean that we are due for a crisis. This doesn't surprise me considering the current climate we have in socio-geopolitics.
>beyond a bit of cold war propaganda being replaced maybe lol. the individual would influence their education, the community would provide it
This is why I tried my best to qualify my statements with some historical considerations. The cold war propaganda was nothing in comparison to what really happened. The Gulag Archipelago does a good job exposing the "entire aparatus of Soviet repression".
I know it's a bit unfair to throw in references like that (especially a massive book like Gulag Archipelago). At the very least, I think you should at a minimum revisit Orwell's classic 1984. George Orwell himself states that he's a democratic socialist, despite having written one of the greatest book against totalitarian socialism.
Well given the recent events going on in our real politics I suggest "1984"
In more ways than one!
No. 1984. Ray Franz released his first edition of "Crisis of Conscience" in 1983, so that's probably where you've gotten confused. You can preview "1984" at this link:
You should read this. I will buy it for you, not even kidding. PM me shipping info and you got it.
> Well, then tell me what a book is besides information printed on otherwise (mostly) worthless paper?
Ok, I'll tell you: it's the difference between this and this. Or this and this. Or even this and this.
> In the context of a library, it is essentially the same thing. THe PDF is simply much more efficient at doing it.
In the context of making written information (which is distinct from written works) freely available, it's essentially the same thing. In the context of copyrighted material it's completely different. The goal of a painter or photographer is not necessarily to show their work to as many people as possible.
If you don't think the law should protect their work from unauthorized copying or plagiarizing, then you've probably never created anything worth stealing.
>Words change. Words mean different things in different places.
Nothing creepy and Orwellian about that, nope, nuh uh
You seem to have an inadequate knowledge of what a thought crime is. A thought crime would be being persecuted or attacked for something you only thought. Say someone in the street cuts you off and you think that you would like to run him off the road. You of course do not do this, but someone comes and arrests you because you thought about performing an illegal action. This is a thought crime.
It ceases to be a thought crime once it extends farther than your thoughts, such as speaking out. Your words can, and do, have consequences to them. Whether that is justified or not is an entirely different argument I will not touch upon and falls more under the label of free speech and private organizations, but anything you say or type now ceases to be a thought crime as it has extended past that of your thoughts.
For more information on this subject you can either look at the wikipedia page for it here or read the novel 1984 by George Orwell.
