For reference this is what I use. Works great for saving bacon grease too.
2 Pack - 80 Micron Nut Milk Bag - 12X12 Inches - Multiple Usage Reusable Food Strainer, Cold Brew Coffee Bag, Food Grade Nylon Mesh, BPA-Free, Cheesecloth Bag, Yogurt Strainer, Juice Filter https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01N2Q4O08/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_ERVCHGCVAS6WYDAXG8PG?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I got my nut milk sack on Amazon, 80 micron works great in my experience.
My wife has a weak stomach and gets nausea from shrooms. For her we prefer to lightly grind up the shrooms in a coffee grinder (let the dust settle before opening), then dump the shrooms into a clean jelly jar along with about 1/2 cup of lemon juice. Put the lid tightly on the jar, and let them soak for a few hours, vigorously shaking periodically. We then pour the juice through a cheap reusable nut milk filter bag (costs about 5 bucks)

A coffee filter works, but gets easily plugged up. Anyway, I then soak the leftover mushroom bits within the filter bag in a little water to rinse things out and then I squeeze the leftovers to get the last bit of juice out. I add this water into the juice. Then clean your filter and discard the mushroom bits. The juice now contains virtually all the active psilocybin, and very little mushroom. We add a couple of packets of sweeter (splenda in our case) to make it taste like lemonade. My wife drinks the lemonade, and it does not hurt her tummy at all. Works very effectively.
Yeah for a funnel, it's not a big deal. The worry is leaching metals into the drink (which can kill the bacteria or be toxic for heavy metals). You can get a stainless steel funnel on Amazon.
Then a nut milk bag covering the funnel works well. E.g. https://www.amazon.com/Pack-Multiple-Reusable-Strainer-Cheesecloth/dp/B01N2Q4O08
I actually don't use ginger. Do not care for it.
My process for dealing with large batches goes like so:
Put desired fruit in a gallon bottle and then fill it with kombucha. My current favorites (per gallon) are...
I used to do quite a bit more fruit but I've found that we enjoy letting more booch flavor come through.
Once in the gallon bottles cap with an airlock or just a balloon. Let that sit for a couple days. Then I use a nut milk bag to filter a jug into a gallon pitcher. Then funnel into individual bottles.
This beats the effort of flavoring and then filtering individual bottles by an hour or two worth of work.
Amazon. It's a 2-Pack for $4.99.
This Nut Milk bag so far has been great for steeping and getting that bark strained.
Hi there, welcome to /r/kava.
There is a FAQ in the sidebar that I highly recommend that you read.
>It’s like making tea?
No. There are instructions in the FAQ.
>Can someone point me to something specific?
There's a list of recommended vendors in the sidebar. Pick one of the top vendors at random. Buy the first kava you see on their website that isn't labelled "micronised". What you want is traditional grind (aka medium grind) kava powder.
Buy a strainer bag. If the vendor you're buying from has one, buy it. Otherwise, buy one on Amazon. This is the first non-sponsored result I got in my search for an 80 micron nut milk bag: https://www.amazon.com/Pack-Multiple-Reusable-Strainer-Cheesecloth/dp/B01N2Q4O08/
Knead the kava well (watch a couple of youtube videos on it if you're not sure how... search "making kava") and then be sure to drink it on an empty stomach.
