Way back in the stone ages, we had to make due with all sorts of weird contraptions to make external devices with car stereos. Many didn’t even have an Aux port.
There are FM transmitters that you can add, but something like this could do the trick:
https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B08KY684PB/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_EM7TS3Y0ZR7C1JR79WXE
Essentially: you connect to this device from your phone via Bluetooth, and plug this device into your Aux port. Change the input on your stereo to Aux and you’re good to go.
Another option is a whole new stereo with Android Auto or CarPlay, but if you’re looking for a solution under 20 bucks, this is one to explore.
Pretty sure it means it won't effect the effectiveness of Bluetooth and Sirius xm, which I can verify it doesn't. I know there are plug ins for the aux port that can operate as a Bluetooth receiver.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08KY684PB/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_DX1M1WMB84Z9P6KW34PC
If you can get the model of your radio you may be able to find a repair for the aux port for a couple bucks if that is the only issue with it. Cheaper solution as a package then buying a new radio.
Best of luck! Streaming is king
you can buy an aux bluetooth receiver something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Upgraded-Bluetooth-Cancelling-Headphones-Hands-Free/dp/B08KY684PB
plug this in this screen like a regular headphone and then pair your bluetooth headphone to this device
First you said “97%” and then you said “most” and now you’re sharing data you found after the fact, and only mention “average age.” Which isn’t the same as “most.”
It ignores that a Bluetooth receiver can be added to any of those old cars for $17: https://www.amazon.com/Upgraded-Bluetooth-Cancelling-Headphones-Hands-Free/dp/B08KY684PB/
It also ignores that every major smartphone manufacturer followed Apple’s lead.
Apple was correct to kill the ancient headphone jack. It’s a port whose time was up. And besides, Apple has always succeeded, wildly, by skating to wear the puck is headed, not to where it has been.
I have a 2008 G35x, I bought a generic Bluetooth adapter with aux from amazon and I have that connected to my car via a rca cable, its been working really well. this is the one I bought
For some of my MINI customers that have Bluetooth compatibility issues with older models, I recommended that they use an Aux dongle like this
I use this plugged into the aux port. It allows for hands-free calling and playing music through the speakers. Works 100% flawlessly.
>Herfurt found that the vehicle gladly exchanges messages with any Bluetooth Low Energy, or BLE, device that's nearby.
Except for a bluetooth-to-aux adapter, because why would anyone ever need to use one of those amirite
It would be TRIVIAL for Tesla engineers to implement aux adapters either via USB or Bluetooth - all they'd have to do is send an update to enable the functionality. But nope, they adamantly refuse to do it.
I have a tiny conspiracy theory that free audio options are about to go the way of the dodo in the automotive world and that Tesla is going to be on the forefront of that.
Tesla has already gutted the USB music app about as much as they possibly can, and I wouldn't be surprised if a future version of the infotainment system didn't include a terrestrial radio *at all* (current versions have already scrapped AM). You can still use your phone to stream music of course via bluetooth, but at compromised audio quality, and there's no guarantee that Tesla won't just scrap that in the future.
You all may laugh but Tesla is quickly becoming the Apple of cars - if Tesla does it, everyone else is going to follow soon after.
Might I suggest a bluetooth adapter been using this one for two years with no complaints pretty cheap too.
Does you Prius have an aux port?
An alternative to be would to get a Bluetooth receiver for aux ports. plug it in to the aux port and stream Bluetooth to it... then it will play directly hardwired through the car radio.
Should be much clearer all around.
I got one of these. Works great COMSOON Upgraded Bluetooth 5.0 Receiver for Car, Noise Cancelling Bluetooth AUX Adapter, Bluetooth Music Receiver for Home Stereo/Wired Headphones/Hands-Free Call,16H Battery Life-Black+Silver https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08KY684PB/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_SBWY4VQRNE9RCD383M04?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Its not a perfect solution but you can use one of these BT receivers keep it in your pocket to keep it warm, and run it to the wired headphones. They last about 4-12 hours depending on the model and you have to remember to charge it, but it might work for your particular case
Have you considered a bluetooth dongle plugged into the 3.5mm aux port? Something like this.
They sell bluetooth receivers which could work in your situation.
You connect the receiver and your phone using bluetooth, then you connect the receiver to your car's aux input.
Here's an example: https://www.amazon.com/Upgraded-Bluetooth-Cancelling-Headphones-Hands-Free/dp/B08KY684PB/
Easiest way would be to add a Bluetooth receiver to the aux port.
(Note that I do not have any experience with the linked product, it was just the top result for "Bluetooth to aux.")
They sell aux bluetooth adapters. I had one many years ago and it worked out pretty good.
Here's a quick link as an example, not a recommendation.
If you really wanna, there are adapter on the market.
It may, I can't be 100% sure, I wad gonna link the one I bought, but they discontinued it, but it was essentially this: [2021 Upgraded] COMSOON Bluetooth 5.0 Receiver for Car, Noise Cancelling Bluetooth AUX Adapter, Bluetooth Music Receiver for Home Stereo/Wired Headphones/Hands-Free Call,16H Battery Life-Black+Silver https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B08KY684PB/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_P15QE4P2A28MTB71NQ1D Which is just a cheap Chinese BT receiver so I would say the chances are good
Had a Volvo in Italy and didn't want to go through the nightmare that is aftermarket radios in those. (Not a joke, you can't actually remove the factory radio completely without disabling the car. It is tied into the anti theft, airbags, etc.) It did have an Aux jack though. So I bought a cheap Bluetooth unit that plugs into the aux jack. Cost about $25, charged off of the the cigarette lighter, And lasted the whole tour (3 years). It's still going. I found it better than the radio transmitter ones that lose signal at times due to interference.

An example. ^
If it has an aux port I'm the center console you can get a [2021 Upgraded] COMSOON Bluetooth 5.0 Receiver for Car, Noise Cancelling Bluetooth AUX Adapter, Bluetooth Music Receiver for Home Stereo/Wired Headphones/Hands-Free Call,16H Battery Life-Black+Silver and connect your phone to it.
Otherwise a Bluetooth fm transmissitter would be the best option for cheap as others have mentioned.
This Bluetooth adapter works great also. If you want bluetooth audio get something like this. You can still use the built in bluetooth, your phone just need to be able to connect to 2 bluetooth devices at the same time.
Decided to buy this one. Bought two in a bundle since my friend has the same car as me and she having Bluetooth issues too. I personally don't like that style of speaker. bass is only OK, and you lose a lot in the mids. Sounds creepy to my ears.
The first thing I would do is head to good will or a second hand store. You can usually get a pretty kick ass system from like 5 years ago for <$50.
You can probably find something with BT, but you can always add a BT reciever pretty inexpensively.

Easy $15 solution that works great on my FJ
So I'm a huge fan of "just enough" new tech to make my 2015 Paceman just as amazing as it can be, so a couple suggestions:
Mine has a USB, but frankly, the integration ain't great, so I opted for a Bluetooth AUX receiver (NOTE: I used the MPOW which is now discontinued, but it's basically the same thing). Pretty seamless connection from my phone into the car's speakers, and great audio quality. I just leave mine plugged into the USB port so it's constantly charged, but...
Since you don't have a USB port, I'd go with something like this to add a bunch of USB ports in lieu of your cigarette lighter.
I used to drive an F-150 with all the "driver assist" stuff and the only thing I missed was my backup camera, especially since the Paceman has such a tiny back window to look through when there are passengers in the back seat. Costco has a great solar powered backup camera that has the advantage of basically needing NO wiring. The camera part at the back is solar charged, and the screen plugs into the cigarette lighter. I'm pretty sure you could adapt it to be USB powered though... Or get a cigarette lighter splitter, but that starts to get clunky. I mounted my screen on the top of the head unit, so I do lose a bit of the speedometer view, but it's nicely integrated.
From everything I've ready, replacing the head unit is more trouble than it's worth. I found a pretty good compromise that works for me, and I LOVE my Paceman and wouldn't want to move to a newer vehicle just for the electronics. (2 doors and all-wheel drive? Sign me up!)
Good luck with your new baby!
I have 2011 Honda Fit, so I'm not sure if you have the old style radio or the one with the screen. Mine is the old style radio.
This is not exactly a direct answer, but rather another option for Bluetooth that's far less expensive...
I just bought a Bluetooth receiver (this one) that plugs into the aux port and it works just fine. They also sell Bluetooth FM transmitters (like this one), but I went with the former since I can use that one on my older home entertainment surround system and ghetto blaster since I'm old school.

I used this in my car for a long time and it worked great with my AGM M7
They also make Bluetooth receivers like this one. https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B08KY684PB/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_DJ11PN2C7QB1YGG9JPN4
I haven't used this one but they are pretty simple.

I just have to turn on the bluetooth receiver and it auto-connects. This thingy, fairly cheap: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B08KY684PB/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Another perk is that without the splitter, I can use a warp charger for the phone.
Found a chinese brand called "COMSOON" on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/Upgraded-Bluetooth-Cancelling-Headphones-Hands-Free/dp/B08KY684PB
cc Venne
No idea about that but I bought one of these back in July and it works great: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08KY684PB/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_image_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
If you have no luck go with one of these.

This might work if it's a loose connecting or something, but if you have to start replacing parts it's probably cheaper just to get a new one
You can also try one of these... Seems like a pain to me though.
