The Muhle R89 is a great $30 razor, but don't pay more than that for it. The Edwin Jagger razors are functionally identical (the two companies co-developed the head), and cost as little as $23. The Maggard v3 head is very similar, and you can get one with a really nice stainless steel handle starting at $18.
The Maggard slant head is another great option, but word is that it requires a light touch. It might be too much of a jump from your VdH, which pretty much requires pressure for a close shave. You might want to try the v3 as an intermediate step - it's very efficient, but more forgiving. But hey, for $37 you can get a handle with both heads and see which one you prefer. And for another $10 you can try the v3A head, too. IMO the only way to find which razor works best for you is to try a few of 'em, and Maggard lets you do that on the cheap.
Looks like Amazon has reduced prices on EJ razors worldwide. They're $22.43 on the US website.
