The laptop takes SODIMM DDR2-400 RAM. Just doing some quick Amazon searching I found this deal. About $20 after shipping and would get you to the maximum 2GB that this laptop supports. You'll still want a lightweight distro, and you specifically need something with 32-bit support, but it will be much more comfortable for LibreOffice and Firefox/Chrome.
