The motherboard should be good enough, but if you can hear electrical noise/hissing then a DAC/Amp like an E10k would help. If the cable is too short you should be able to extend it with a TRRS 4 Pole Male->Female or you could get a hardware switch like this
This is the closest thing I could find. Not many audio interfaces had a mute mic button, but you could probably bind that to your keyboard.

This little piece of hardware lets you toggle which input you're using, so you can click a button to switch between speakers and headset, including your microphone.
