I actually didn't like the New 3DS nub at all. All else equal I'd rather have one of those 2DS or 3DS XLs so that I can throw one of these bad boys on it. But there's a decent enough alternative to the nub on the New 3DS, and that is to remove it and put on a PSP nub. Comparing my New 3DS w/ PSP nub vs my bro's 3DS XL w/ MH Slide Pad, I prefer the Slide Pad. But the PSP nub gets the job done as well.
The only way to hunt
I have a classic 3DS XL but I use the japanese MH4G LL CPP with it. It was cheaper back when they were released but I use it constantly since it makes the 3DS like a normal controller.
Completely agree with this. If you plan to play MH4U at a higher framerate, go for the new 3DS XL, but if you want a better control scheme in terms of camera control with movement and attacking, the original 3DS XL with the hori expansion slide is a great set-up, especially if you are a veteran that's played the PSP version with the claw hold.
Sadly the new 3DS XL is not accessible with this control pad and I don't think it will have one since it has its own control stick.
The link to the control pad is listed below. Though this product is printed in japanese, it is not region locked and can work with any original 3DS XL.
If you get a cpp get this one
Looks weird but I PROMISE the left index circle pad is the best way to play. It takes a typically low use finger (for MH) and gives it something to do, freeing up a high use finger (right thumb) to focus only of face buttons. It is the best way to play monster hunter by far.
I have big hands too, If you're still rocking an o3dsxl, try this out. [link]
I own both this and the circle pad pro, and far prefer this one for everything. don't have to take fingers off face buttons, and makes it MUCH meatier to hold.
If you do get the a 3DS instead for MH4U, don't get a CPP.
Get a Extended slide pad special made for MH, takes a little getting use to but both sticks are on the left side.
Soloed all the way to G2 with longsword but stopped playing for a year. Got back into MH and did a new save with bow and it's easy...Really easy.
Edit: Here's what I'm talking about - [link]
Find and order from whatever store/site you like.
I ended up snagging just a cheap 10USD grip that had really good reviews to give it a whirl. I just can't get behind purchasing an accessory that requires batteries. Looks like it's available on Amazon now though if this is the same one : [link]
Yeah, I got this for my wife and it has been a real changer for her. If we're "on the go" we leave it at home, but for evening hunts together she uses it and has enjoyed it immensely.
I would offer this link. Fulfilled by amazon and immensely shorter delivery time (Was able to do next-day for $10, definitely worth it.)
There's this weird grip that gives you a second analog stick that's exactly like the circle pad.
Basically, no. Camera control is just part of the difficulty. You can make things easier mid-fight by touching the monster icon (touchscreen panel loadout can be customised), making your L button center on the big monster rather than just the direction your hunter is facing when it's tapped. That's the lockon function. Otherwise, use the cnub.
The claw is a method where you use your left index and middle fingers to have access to the dpad while still being able to move and use the action buttons. Looks like this. No longer useable with 3ds, still used on souls games, especially with speedrunners.
Hori pad for comparison (third picture shows the camera control stick where the index finger more naturally rests)
You probably want to grab a circle pad [link]
this is in stock in 2 days. It's the one I got when 4U came out. Shipped to U.S.
Presuming you mean this grip with the 'claw' positioned circle pad, this works like the regular circle pad pro and will not function with a n3DS, only the old one.
To my knowledge there isn't an alternative input for the cstick besdies the virtual dpad on the lower screen.
If you're interested in a general grip, this one will be available shortly, and I'll likely be picking one up myself to replace the lil' cheapo I've been using for my n3DS. I'm not very good on bow myself, so GL~
I second the Hori. Got it here: [link]
LL is the same as the XL.
check out [link]
I have a old xl and it works wonders, i dont know if this will fit the new one but there might be a different verion for it.
This is what I use instead of the stock CPP [link]
It's so fucking comfortable and nice.
You mean this right?
It isn't in the US so you have to import so it will probably take a bit to arrive.
