I've worn Red Wings for years because they were "the boot to get". That being said, I don't find them that comfortable. I bought them because they were industry type boots that I needed steel toes, chemical resistance, ankle protection and with a good sole.
As for a good pair of boots that are both comfortable and provide excellent ankle protection and chemical resistance. I have worn 5.11 Men's ATAC 2.0 8" Tactical Side Zip Military Boot, Style 12393, Dark Coyote5.11 Men's ATAC 2.0 8" Tactical Side Zip Military Boot
I would talk to the people that you work with before I would drop $200-300 on a pair of Red Wings. Also a word of advise. Don't buy boots and expect them to last 5 years without you needing to replace the soles. Your boots should probably be replaced about once a year and ideally, you should have two pair that you rotate so they can dry out between days so you don't get foot fungus. If you are wearing the same pair of boots for 5 years, you probably aren't even moving around.
