I have noticed that if I get whole coffee beans and grind them right before I make the coffee it's so much better. I still use a regular coffee machine and not a french press yet, but I find just grinding the beans at home makes a huge difference! I use this grinder: [link] which only grinds about 2-3 tbsp of coffee at a time (2-3 cups worth) but it's really simple and quiet.
To extract the most cannabinoids you will also want the most surface area possible so the finer the weed is ground the better. If you break it up in a normal grinder that'll be just fine. I like to use a coffee bean grinder, but i've heard food processors can also work.
Here's an example coffee grinder, no need for anything fancy:
I have a chromium crusher. It's ok, but it doesn't quite grind it finely enough, even when turned upside down. Something like this might be a good choice however.
People will tell you to spend loads of money on 'high quality' grinders, when something much better is a small fraction of the price.
I hate it. It worked at first, but it's always getting stuck and really doesn't grind very fine, especially with sticky weed. If portability isn't an issue, this is the best grinder I've ever owned, and it's almost half the price.
Two pinches is probably less than 1g, and 1g is probably not enough. Get a coffee grinder on Amazon, then turn your avb into powder. Try a tablespoon, maybe two next time. Try not to vape because you actually want to see how it works. I've noticed with powdered avb edibles on an empty stomache, the effects aren't going to take hours to kick in... they'll kick in within the first hour.
So give it say, 3-4 hours. Then increase the potency next time. I can't tell you how many times I tried eating avb edibles + vaped... I had no idea if the edibles worked or not because I was obviously well-medicated from vaping.
Bought "Cafe Altura: Sumatra" the other day from my local whole foods store because I want to start buying things in bulk and reduce plastic baggies and yadda yadda.
It appears to be a medium roast, I buy whole beans, and grind them myself in this and I grind them to an almost fine state. My usual ratio with the Gevalia beans has been a perfect 1:1 tablespoon of grounds to cups of water (using the marks on the coffee pot). I love that ratio. Brewed in a cheap auto-drip that has served me well for years.
Yesterday I used the same ratio with this new Sumatra blend. Terribly weak. Almost water. Gross. So today I added another rounded teaspoon of grounds. I almost gagged when I took the first sip. Disappointing because that coffee was not cheap!
Is there anything else I can try? I have a French press, but I am tempted to just throw this stuff out and head back to World Market and get some of their beans because I really like those.
I appreciate any input. Thanks!
Personally I use this one here. The kief collects nicely in the top and the top part sits well on a counter. Sacrifice a few buds to "season" the grinder but the kief will collect so much especially if you want it to be a very fine grind. I have problems using my hands, so small little grinders were a terrible fit for my medical usage of cannabis on a regular basis. I bought this and never went back, its been about 2 and a half years, now and works just as good as when I first bought it. I grind up about 2.5g and I have almost a tablespoon of kief to layer on the top of a bong bowl. For serious medication time.
