Probably should also mention the companion book, which discusses a number of modern theological questions: A New Kind of Christianity: Ten Questions That Are Transforming the Faith
It's ok - I'm pretty sure the way I was taught, growing up, was very similar. And it's not easy to come out of that - it took a lot of time and patience and a lot of research and thought and talking things through with friends who were safe, and it wasn't easy to find friends like that either.
As far as giving you my version - that's not an easy task, mind you, because it's kind of a "well where do I start? And how much time do I have?" sort of thing. If you have any particular questions about things that don't make sense, that would be helpful for me.
For me, two of the big issues that I had to spend quite a bit of time deconstructing were Hell and Satan. Deconstructing those issues ended up spilling over into a lot of other areas as well, but those were two of the biggest issues I had to spend a lot of time on. I don't know if that sounds to you like it would be helpful to focus on, but if it would, I wrote a couple blog series on those two topics, and I would be happy to answer any questions you have that pop up in relation to them if you happen to read them - so here are the links to the first parts of each series (the rest of the parts are linked within):
Edit: Additionally, one book that helped me to start the deconstruction process, and which I'd highly recommend as a starting point, is A New Kind of Christianity: Ten Questions That Are Transforming the Faith.
