Surprisingly, I've been very happy with the Abbree foldable whip I got on Amazon. It comes in lengths from 13"-42" (33-107cm). I got the 18.8"/48cm version and it outperformed my 771 on both bands. It folds up too like a military tactical antenna for easier storage. A couple of people have reviewed them on Youtube and liked them. I'm thinking of getting the 42" just to be absurd about it.
ABBREE SMA-Female Dual Band VHF/UHF 144/430MHz High Gain Soft Whip Foldable CS Tactical Antenna for Baofeng UV-5R UV-82 BF-F8HP Ham Two Way Radio (18.8in) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GYKN6ZD
The antenna is this
The beaver tail is from arbor arms, same as the pack. I like the way it attaches, very solid.
The shoulders traps are the hill people gear harness. I had to sew some loops to get the pack to sit a little higher since it was not designed to use with a harness like this. But overall it’s super comfy and I like that the straps are thin and wide. They fit well over a carrier and don’t interfere too bad with shouldering a rifle.
Lol probably a fake one. I’m using it for SAR and it worked OK so far but not super far ranges yet. Their was one instance where someone else’s radio was much clearer than mine and I’m not sure if that was due to a bad antennae, or maybe I was off frequency a little or something. I dunno radios are new to me.
I was looking to maybe adapt an H/T antenna due to its size and portability. This one has a max power of 20 watts.

There might not be a lot of chatter on those frequencies. I live in an area that's pretty active, but there is little traffic on UHF. Try scanning VHF, also try programming in some local repeaters. I found some in Japan. Here https://www.repeaterbook.com/row_repeaters/Display_SS.php?state_id=JP&band=%&freq=%&band6=%&loc=%&call=%&status_id=%&features=%&system=%&coverage=%&use=%
I've been able to hear stuff up to 10 miles away with the stock antenna, but I have a bf-f8hp. I just bought this

It might be better, it might not.
Also there is an amateur radio league in Japan. See if you can get in contact with them.

that connector is common on commercial radios. There are antennas made specifically for it, like this one
Apparently, Baofeng fixed some spurious emissions with this model (still $21)

I check w/ the local net on mine and get good reports (better when I'm outside). Be sure to get this antenna or similar for $8. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07GYKN6ZD/

It looks to me like an Abbree antenna. Im not a huge fan of them, myself, because the blade shape makes them somewhat directional. amazon
