You need to carry the means to cook for your self. Pot with a lid. Light weight hiking stove.

Can you eat lentils? Red lentils cook up very quickly. Brown lentils and split peas cook up quicker than other hard beans.

If you soak beans over night and during the day and cook them over a campfire in the evening you will have an endless supply of cheap food. If they are still not cooking quick enough, use a mortar and pedestal to smash the beans.

Can you eat rice? That is another source of cheap carbohydrates. I preferred brown rice over white as it has more fiber. You can mortar the rice to speed cooking time as well. A pound of beans and a pound of rice should feed you easily and you would not have to sleep near a super market but just visit one from time to time to restock.

Now all you need is some corn bread mix to bake a cup muffin.

Beans and rice are easy to come by at food pantries. Try all kinds of beans. There are dozens of varieties at foreign food markets.
If you want to double down on cheap stoves. Might as well try it.
