I'm trying to say comics are a medium over a genre! Panel rhythm defines comics more than anything else. Is cinema about stars and action (sex?) There are non-narrative comics (newspaper comics? Or check out this alternative scene) -- and but you can't deny the poetry of current stuff like Images' The Surface or Intersect, hallmarks like Watchmen, Jimmy Corigan -- or even spurts of language with heft and economy, subconscious line breaks, stanzas in your Batman.
Does poetry define comics?
Does academia define poetry?
Does poetry define Hip Hop?
I'd say the answers are, well, not straightforward.
