Every one has a different process, but I write the drafts on my laptop and then use my iPhone to take photos and then I upload them on the app. I like to write up a big pile of items, like 40-50 and then do the photos.
I suggest this one because it has the movable display, but any of the $20-30 postal scales on Amazon work great.
If you're making sales daily, I'd get a label printer. Those paper and ink costs add up and label printers are cheaper over the long run, faster, and easier to use.
Yes, the more you have listed the better your chances are at sales. But you also want to make sure you have quality items as well. As long you are consistently listing quality items with demand, you will see sales. If you have less than a few hundred items listed, you will most always have wide variance in sales from day to day. You just need either a very in demand inventory or a larger inventory to consistent sales. So just keep listing as many good items as you can.
You need a scale, labels, printer, boxes and tape. Maybe packing materials but I’ve had enough air pillows saved from my amazon purchases that I’ve never had to buy any but I buy a lot of stuff.
If you want to get fancy you could get a barcode scanner, a small label printer for barcodes, and a 4xl label printer for shipping labels but the really aren’t necessary. Especially when you don’t know if you’ll turn a profit yet.
I would recommend you choose a scale that has the display on a cord so you can read it with large packages. Here’s an example: https://amazon.com/dp/B00KYA0RC2/
Also, if you’re using a regular printer rather than label printers, make sure it’s later rather than inkjet. Brother makes good, inexpensive laser printers. If you don’t already have a laser printer, that might make it easier to justify the label printers instead.
It could come to the buyer with postage due or it might slip by. Be prepared for a negative review from the buyer if that happens. Get a scale so it doesn't happen again and weigh your items with the packaging so you don't get an underweight label. I got mine off of amazon and it weighs up to 110 pounds. It's like this one but red. Accuteck ShipPro 110lbs x 0.1 oz. Digital Shipping Postal Scale, Black (W-8580-110-Black) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KYA0RC2/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_xNXSEbNHDZEK6
I use this one. I like it for two reasons:
https://www.amazon.com/Accuteck-ShipPro-Digital-Shipping-W-8580-110-Black/dp/B00KYA0RC2
Does anyone have any recommendations for a scale to weigh my water with? I'm trying to get more accurate with my volumes than simply pouring the water into a gallon jug and guessing what the in between is. Considering this one.
Also, if anyone has a link to a metal ruler that does not have a cork back to it, my amazon searches are coming up short.
fixed price is generally better, lots of people aren't going to want to wait until the auction is over to purchase.
and if you don't know what you're doing with shipping use calculated shipping and accurately weigh and measure the stuff you are selling. you need an accurate scale with a detached read out to properly ship and you can find them on amazon/ebay/costco/staples for less than $30. something like this https://www.amazon.com/Accuteck-ShipPro-Digital-Shipping-W-8580-110-Black/dp/B00KYA0RC2/ref=lp_1068986_1_7?s=office-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1530560175&sr=8-7
read all of the shipping related posts in this sub, there's tons of good information, fitshipper, pirateship, flat rate, priority cubic, fedex, are some good search terms to work off of. may have to use google because reddit search is shiity. it's not hard to learn but there is a LOT of info to absorb so there is a learning curve and it will take some time to get the hang of it.
I got mine off Amazon. It weighs up to 110 pounds and goes to the nearest 0.1 oz. It's like this one, but red. It has more than paid for itself.
But any shipping scale should work. I definitely recommend a digital shipping scale.
No. Get a shipping scale.
Mine is this one except red. https://www.amazon.com/Accuteck-ShipPro-Digital-Shipping-W-8580-110-Black/dp/B00KYA0RC2/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?crid=19H8PYO767B35&keywords=shipping+scale&qid=1668324476&sprefix=shipping+scale%2Caps%2C140&sr=8-3
There's no way it weighs 4 oz for the $3.72 rate or 8 oz for the $4.87 rate. Tell them you can't change the shipping.
Also buy a scale. There's plenty of them on Amazon. Mine is this one but red. https://www.amazon.com/Accuteck-ShipPro-Digital-Shipping-W-8580-110-Black/dp/B00KYA0RC2/ref=mp_s_a_1_8?crid=3ASHW2HZAQ60W&keywords=shipping+scale&qid=1664336149&qu=eyJxc2MiOiI1LjIxIiwicXNhIjoiNC40NCIsInFzcCI6IjQuMjQifQ%3D%3D&sprefi...
Some sellers also use a Kitchen scale. But definitely buy a scale.
If your items are small. Usually kitchen scales have very low weight limits.
My postage scale goes up to 110 pounds. And measures to the nearest 0.1 oz.
It is like this one, but red: https://www.amazon.com/Accuteck-ShipPro-Digital-Shipping-W-8580-110-Black/dp/B00KYA0RC2/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?crid=1S6SKPBQYFIHC&keywords=postal+scale&qid=1639169230&sprefix=post%2Caps%2C153&sr=8-4

GET A SCALE!
Yes, you always need the weight.
Mercari's recommended shipping is often wrong and very unreliable. Always weigh & measure your items in box or polymailer/ envelope with packaging materials to get an accurate weight.
I have this scale, but red. https://www.amazon.com/Accuteck-ShipPro-Digital-Shipping-W-8580-110-Black/dp/B00KYA0RC2/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?crid=21N68QCR499YF&keywords=postal+scale&qid=1638814665&sprefix=postal+%2Caps%2C498&sr=8-4
There's more scales on Amazon too. Take your pick.
BEFORE you list anything, you need to purchase a shipping scale. You get it off Amazon. Print your labels online, and you will save. It is always cheaper to buy postage online compared to in-person, over the counter. Mine is like this, but red: https://www.amazon.com/Accuteck-ShipPro-Digital-Shipping-W-8580-110-Black/dp/B00KYA0RC2/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?crid=24TT5XZ14ZB65&keywords=shipping+scale&qid=1637458652&qsid=141-1625315-0296220&sprefix=shipp%2Caps%2C223&sr=8-4&sres...
Shipping is all about plugging in the numbers. Plug in the weight and demensions and you get the correct shipping rate.
If you use ebay, use calculated shipping. It is the most fair. Close buyers will pay less because it costs less to ship to closer buyers. The bigger and further away your package is, the more shipping costs. Check ebay for sold listings. Also check current pricing on ebay. List each twin set individually. If you wait too long to list it might not make it to the buyer[s] in time for Christmas, especially with the slow shipping.
Make sure you have a box that fits the boxes. AG doll boxes [for any dolls/ outfits/ items] are not strong enough to withstand the abuse of the shipping carriers.
Do not use any stock photos. Even if brand new. List the outfits separately.
Take pics like there is no description. Write the description like there aren't pics.
just checked, the one i got is like $20 still, but i would buy this one,
when trying to weigh a big box, the box will cover up the scale, and having the separate read out would save a bit of time and make things easier.
Get a scale and some measuring tape, BEFORE listing. I use this scale, except mine is red. https://www.amazon.com/Accuteck-ShipPro-Digital-Shipping-W-8580-110-Black/dp/B00KYA0RC2/ref=mp_s_a_1_15?dchild=1&keywords=postage+scale&qid=1628561513&sprefix=posta&sr=8-15 Accurate shipping is all about plugging in the numbers. Weigh your item(s) in box or envelope with packaging materials. Also measure your boxes. Carriers charge demensional weight so sometimes measurements affect pricing.
Type in the weight, always go up to the next pound. A 1 pound 0.1 oz package always gets at least a 2 pound label. Never go down. Never round down.
Then type in your box measurements. This will get you an accurate shipping rate.
If you use FedEx Smartpost, the limit for boxes is 12 x 10 x5. Anyhthing bigger will get a $5 surcharge. And take FedEx Smartpost to FedEx. Mercari/ FedEx will charge a $5 surcharge if dropped off at a USPS location.
Make your buyer pay shipping. You only pay fees on item price if you make the buyer pay shipping.

The Accuteck is wonderful (Recommended by Pirate Ship and only $25) - Accuteck ShipPro 110lbs x 0.1 oz. Digital Shipping Postal Scale, Black (W-8580-110-Black) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KYA0RC2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_PNTE0Q6GK1HFK32MJZB9?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Edit ... oh wait, you wanted grams... then a kitchen scale should work 😊
I sell on both eBay and Mercari.
Do yourself a favor. Get a BEFORE you list anything. Weigh your item with box and packaging material. I got mine off Amazon. It's like this but red. https://www.amazon.com/Accuteck-ShipPro-Digital-Shipping-W-8580-110-Black/dp/B00KYA0RC2/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=shipping+scale&qid=1616913181&sprefix=shipping+&sr=8-4
It's also helpful to get a measuring tape if you don't have one already.
Part of shipping is plugging in numbers. Plug in your weight and demensions. The other part is packaging your item. Finally, it's dropping off your package at the carrier or scheduling a pickup. And when selling online, it's also tracking your package(s).
Mercari, eBay, PayPal, Pirateship etc... and other shipping services often ask for box size. Measure your box and enter your demensions. Then weigh it and go up to the next pound.
If package is 2 # 1 oz, enter 3 #. You never go down. Ebay has calculated shipping so you can charge the buyer according to where they live. Mercari has a flat shipping rate depending on size and weight of box. Mercari UPS and FedEx only reach the lower 48 states. Mercari USPS labels reach all 50 states, including Hawaii and Alaska.
If package is under a pound, then you go up to the next ounce. A 7.1 oz package gets at least an 8 oz label.
Ebay has eBay Global Shipping Program to allow you to safely ship internationally. You can enable it on your listing(s). If sold through it, you ship LIKE NORMAL to their warehouse in Kentucky. Then they take care of the rest and ship it to whatever country.
Both eBay and Mercari have shipping labels you can easily print and stick on your package.
Take good pictures. I usually do it against a solid colour wall or a door. Sometimes I have to use my desk lamp or flashlight for extra lighting.
I've sold on both. But I've had more sales overall on Mercari. I like to make the buyer pay shipping on both platforms.

Buy a (digital) shipping scale, so you don't have to go to the Post Office to figure out what your packages weigh.
This is very similar to the one I use:
https://amazon.com/dp/B00KYA0RC2
Check out PirateShip.com. You'll get discounted USPS rates with no minimum postage purchase and no monthly fees. For a small/new/infrequent seller, it's a godsend.
Every seller needs a scale BEFORE listing anything. Unless you want to ship on your own and do flat rate, which gets expensive.
I got mine off Amazon. It's like this one, but red. https://www.amazon.com/Accuteck-ShipPro-Digital-Shipping-W-8580-110-Black/dp/B00KYA0RC2/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=shipping+scale&qid=1598142609&sr=8-4
Always weigh with item, packaging and box before listing. Also measure the box before listing. Especially, with FedEx and UPS. The size of the box can make a difference in price.
Also if you're shipping books or CDs you can select Free ship and then hit ship on your own. You can then use Media Mail to ship books but you can NOT use any Priority packaging. If caught you or the buyer will have to pay a postage due fee. The book can't have ANY advertising so things like a Magazine or Comic Book is ineligible. Previews on a VHS Tape or DVD don't count. Visit USPS.com and really read what you can and can't ship via media mail. If in doubt, don't ship it Media Mail. (Like cards do not qualify.)
Finally, and I can't stress this enough. Buy a shipping scale if you don't already have one. You need this BEFORE you list anything. (Unless you want to do free shipping and only use Flat Rate Boxes and or Envelopes, which can get expensive.) I got mine off Amazon. It weighs up to 110 pounds and goes to the nearest .1 oz. It's like this one but red. https://www.amazon.com/Accuteck-ShipPro-Digital-Shipping-W-8580-110-Black/dp/B00KYA0RC2/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=shipping+scale&qid=1593830790&sprefix=shipping+&sr=8-4
However any shipping scale will do.
this is the scale that many of us use. $20-$25 depending on when you buy/what color. Up to 110 lbs. detatched readout for large boxes. USB cable so no batteries.
> try to get something like an Accutek acb440. It's got a huge capacity
who needs a 440lb capacity for flipping? The problem with some of these scales with really large capacity is they don't perform as well at the bottom of the range. Here's an amazon review:
"Scale does not register weights under 4oz. Still increments properly after that, just no good for very light objects."
>Just jump in and get a scale that will last forever. I got lucky with my scale, it's a Mettler-Toledo PS-60...$44 at my local thrift store where I found mine
sure, if you find that scale for $50, you should buy it. but if you need a scale now, get the ~70 lb accutek w/ the remote screen for $25-35.
edit: 110 lb accutek, this one
Step 1: buy a scale. Seriously, best $23.99 you'll ever spend.
Step 2: now that you know the weight, you can find the cheapest shipping option. fitshipper.com is one of many resources.
Step 3: ????
Step 4: Profit!
edit: formatting is fucked, sorry.
I've been using this one for the past few months, and it works very well. My favorite thing about it is that the display is separate from the scale, so big packages don't cover it up and make it difficult to read.
https://www.amazon.com/Accuteck-ShipPro-Digital-Shipping-W-8580-110-Black/dp/B00KYA0RC2
Really appreciate it! I actually just picked this one up about 2 weeks ago:
Accuteck ShipPro 110lbs x 0.1 oz. Digital Shipping Postal Scale, Black (W-8580-110-Black) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KYA0RC2/ref=cm_sw_r_other_awd_R.Zhwb5EC2K5G
They seem pretty similar! I love this one, for what it's worth :)
We also have an AccuTeck and love it. This is the one we have.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KYA0RC2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I've got this one:
Seems accurate as far as I can tell. It can handle tenths of an ounce just fine.
I got this one that was recommended by Pirate Ship Accuteck ShipPro 110lbs x 0.1 oz. Digital Shipping Postal Scale, Black (W-8580-110-Black) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KYA0RC2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_GRJCPS0TEP2WKT76K9W3
I have an older version of this scale, $24 on Amazon Prime: https://smile.amazon.com/Accuteck-ShipPro-Digital-Shipping-W-8580-110-Black/dp/B00KYA0RC2/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1526344532&sr=8-6&keywords=package+scale&dpID=51nM60Wv7fL&preST=_SX300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch
This one is $35 Prime, and it has a larger platform if you decide it's better than trying to add a platform to balance on and re-tare the smaller scale: https://smile.amazon.com/Smart-Weigh-Shipping-Stainless-Readability/dp/B0153I0418/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1526344532&sr=8-5&keywords=package+scale&dpID=412yZbU-gHL&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch
Either way, skip the pizza for like one or two build meetings and you've found the budget room for a scale. :)
Have this one and it works great, I found it on Pirateship.com
Accuteck ShipPro 110lbs x 0.1 oz. Digital Shipping Postal Scale, Black (W-8580-110-Black) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KYA0RC2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_k.UPBbMM25T0V
I like a scale with a 'remote' display.
For smaller stuff (<=50lbs) I use this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KYA0RC2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
For larger stuff (>50 lbs) I use this one. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000R4HRGO/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Both have served me well for years.
https://www.amazon.com/Accuteck-ShipPro-Digital-Shipping-W-8580-110-Black/dp/B00KYA0RC2
I use this one. It’s got a separate display for that reason and it has fold out flaps for unstable items or things like sweatshirts or jackets
u/GenericModerator2020 is quite correct. Even $100 is too much.
I own this one, going fine at 5 years. Currently $23. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KYA0RC2. Goes to 110 lbs. I use it for most of my day-to-day shipping (I have another scale for uber-heavy items). It works great and I've literally never been caught 'off' on my weights. My only complaint with it is the auto-shut off invokes after like 90 seconds, even when plugged in. A minor PITA to have to keep turning it back on when shipping.
Whatever you buy, I'd strongly recommend getting one with the 'remote' display. The ones with the display on the unit can be easily hid by larger boxes.
FTR in case anyone thinks otherwise, that's no affiliate link. Just posting it 'cuz it's the one I actually own.
Here's a postal scale I can't recommend enough, I purchased it over 2 years ago and it's still holding up strong without any issues or inaccuracy. I've probably weighed parcels on it over 2000 times now:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KYA0RC2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Not an affiliate link btw, I'm not special enough for those haha. Seriously though, if you intend to sell more than just a handful of items, get this scale. It's dummy cheap and has a 110lb weight capacity, as well as a display separated from the scale so you can actually see the weight reading when weighing large items on it.
Though, if you're only selling a few random very light items here and there, get a kitchen scale instead. A kitchen scale has more uses, so it'd be a smarter purchase in that sense.
A majority of the time, phones cases are going to be in the 4oz weight zone. Most all phone cases will be fine wrapped in a bit of bubblewrap and thrown in a bubble mailer. For more brittle/fragile cases you should pack them in small boxes. If the phone case is particularly bulky or the box your using adds enough weight, the package can end up going into the 8oz price range instead.

4x6 thermal printer 100% worth the investment IMO.
I bought one on Mercari for ~$75 and bought labels on amazon. Sounds stupid but saves alot of time and 10x easier then printer on regular printer and then taping. Before that, i bought 8.5 x 11 sheets that had 2 labels each. 1 step easier, but more work to scale and cut and paste image.
i also use pirateship / facebook marketplace and both offer the option to print 4x6 so its a breeze now. i also invested in a scale (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KYA0RC2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1) i like that the readout is on a wire so big boxes can still read. makes shipping easier especially when shipping something 1lb 2oz vs 15oz is a BIG price difference. the accuracy is key.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KYA0RC2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Up to 110lb and is pretty accurate when I weigh various dumbbells for comparison.
I use this:
https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00KYA0RC2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It's not as precise as you're looking for but 10g is kind of overkill when you're measuring lbs of stuff.
I ship 2-3 packages a week, and I've had pretty good luck with Pirate Ship, this scale, and some half-sheet labels for laser printers. The post office near my house has two package drop boxes in the lobby, which is open 24/7. Rarely is something too big to fit in a drop box, but even then, I just leave it on the counter (during business hours) without having to wait in line.
Accuteck scales on Amazon are pretty popular around here. It's useful to have one where the LCD screen can be moved away from the scale (for when you have large boxes). I have this one: https://www.amazon.com/Accuteck-ShipPro-Digital-Shipping-W-8580-110-Black/dp/B00KYA0RC2/ref=sxin_5_ac_d_pm?ac_md=2-1-QmV0d2VlbiAkMjUgYW5kICQ1MA%3D%3D-ac_d_pm&keywords=shipping+scale&pd_rd_i=B00KYA0RC2&pd_rd_r=d8ca9b1f-d86a-4264-bd5e-d2db980ab1a3&pd_rd_w=Bg3hS&pd_rd_wg=PA9Uw&pf_rd_p=aed08533-d0f3-456a-bfcd-3ec60fc417c9&pf_rd_r=5PNA399EWXFBFQ99B9TT&psc=1&qid=1569514644&s=gateway
Don't spend too much time on a business plan. It's more important to get some practice at actually selling things. Good luck!

I have 3 (I'm not right in the head) no complaints. Might want to shop around on Amazon and Ebay for it a little cheaper but you really can't go wrong for $25

This is the one that I have. It’s economical and pretty versatile. If you have a larger item you can still see the weight.
I just got one of these, does the job fine. $24, weighs up to 110lbs, display is on a spiral cord.

What do you think of this one? 110 lbs and detachable face. https://www.amazon.com/Accuteck-ShipPro-Digital-Shipping-W-8580-110-Black/dp/B00KYA0RC2
Is the benefit of the detachable face for big packages that obscure the reading?

Purchase that one. It has a detachable display and can weigh up to 110 Lbs. Purchasing one with a detachable display is the most important.
I think a lot of us enjoy this one. Having the display seperate is nice Accuteck ShipPro 110lbs x 0.1 oz. Digital Shipping Postal Scale, Black (W-8580-110-Black) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KYA0RC2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_taa_eiaEzbDWXFTG7
I have 2, I'd recommend either.
This is the cheaper one, the one I got first, It's smaller, but still great for my needs. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KYA0RC2/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I got this one on Prime day at like $20. It's bigger, but honestly no better than the cheaper one. I only grabbed it because I needed a 2nd one anyway and it was a great deal. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0153I0418/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Definitely get this kind with the separated readout, like you guessed for larger packages that extend over the edge it's a must have (I was originally using small kitchen scale without the separate readout and it was a nightmare)
I just switched to this one and love it.
I like the fact that the face is seperate for those big packages.
Check out /r/flipping. Many of us use small scales like this one to determine the weight. In your case, you then enter the weight and address into the Canada Post shipping calculator and it spits out a rate.
If you're selling on ebay, they automatically calculate shipping for you, making it even easier.
Boxes and other shipping supplies can be had for free from most retail stores. If you ask nicely, many places will simply give you their extra boxes at the end of the day. With a little ingenuity, you can make a hell of a lot of money. I've made $800 in 3 months and I don't thrift half as much as you do.
PM me if you'd like some more info.
This is the one I have, and it's pretty great.
