That said, first off get two or three smaller monitors instead of one bigger one if you have enough display outputs on your motherboard or graphics card. I got in such a habit of having two or three screens at work or even in the Business basement computer labs that I always feel hindered when I'm working with just one. This also has the added benefit while gaming because I don't have to alt-tab out of games anymore; I can have the game on one screen and a walkthrough or tips on the other. I do a lot of gaming so I settled on the XB321HK and the 32GK850G-B. Overkill for just schoolwork because you're not going to need things like G-Sync, a high refresh rate, etc.
Second if your glasses don't have the anti-blue light filter on them, try and find a monitor that has a feature like that built in. Or at the very least get Flux. My glasses do have the filter on them plus my monitor did come with that feature (was a perk but not a selling feature for me) and my headaches after sitting in front of it for hours on end dropped dramatically. Putting Bias Lighting on the back of my monitor also helped.
If you are going to stick with just one monitor, try and get a curved one. They're designed to follow the natural curvature of your eyesight and helps reduce eye strain a bit too.

I got this one because of it being 32 in and having gsync.
If only they made this one in 32 inches
That's a good idea, head down to Fry's and bring my Slate with me.
My main motivation is productivity and being able to see all my code and big design layouts at native resolution.
Maybe this Acer 32" one instead?

check out the reviews for the Acer XB321HK BMIPHZ because it's very pricey as well

Does steamlink have a noticeable latency? Also, I have a pretty decent monitor. I don't have a need for a second. Hahah. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B01A3N60A2/
