I bought this
Acer XG270HU omidpx 27-Inch 16:9 WQHD Gaming Monitor with AMD FreeSync https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00U2FDO4C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_Cc4CAbS6TPE6S
A few days ago in prep for my build being finished, currently it's a blast to play on I'd definitely recommend it if you want to hit that serious competitive edge
I actually use one of these for my personal rig, It is amazing, I bought it refurbished for almost half the Amazon price and even when it have an issue Acer replaced it within a week. I do recommend this monitor. Only issue is it does not have a wall amounting bracket on the back and does not pivot or rise. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Acer-XG270HU-omidpx-27-Inch-16/dp/B00U2FDO4C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1504621311&sr=8-1&keywords=Acer+XG270HU
Hi, how's the new monitor working out for you? I think I'm going to order either the Dell one or this one on Tuesday :)
That monitor looks stunning!!!
According Acer's website
It does support the following inputs
DVI
HDMI
DisplayPort
The 280 Dual-X should work fine! What your 280 Dual-X doesn't support is freesync... which is a big feature of the monitor...
Depending on how good the offer is I would definitely get the monitor. I personally feel like vega is worth the wait (1-3 months as they are promising a Q1 release). If you personally feel like your current card doesn't work well with the monitor you can still buy a fury (there have been none stop deals for the last couple of months) or maybe AMD will come out with some concrete information.
What AMD have come out with as just a base line is something I personally feel waiting for (all depends on price but it does seem like the technological leap in terms of performance and efficiency)
I haven't tried 1080p after setting my monitor up but I remember it looking kinda blurred and everything was so big. I bought this one: https://www.amazon.de/dp/B00U2FDO4C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_zcZIybB720JG1 It's an awesome monitor and i really love the resolution and refresh rate. Once you get used to >100hz you can't go back. Even 70fps looks laggy to me. Freesync helps a lot tho.
Edit: My 290x has only 4gb too. Lowering shadows helps a lot with fps. Also you don't need that much anti aliasing at 1440p.
you seem to know what you are talking about. Can i overclock my 144hz screen? and what framerate would be safe?
what would one use to overclock a screen?
Do you have any suggestions?
There's the 1080p one in linked earlier, but for 1440p I was considering this one (https://www.amazon.fr/Acer-XG270HUOMIDPX-Gaming-FreeSync-pouces/dp/B00U2FDO4C). It's by a good brand, still reasonably affordable (only 130€ more than the one I have now) and runs at 144hz and 1ms input delay.
That should definitely be able to run most games at 4K 60FPS, or 2K 144FPS. I've only recently bought a 2K 144Hz monitor and haven't had a chance to use it so I can't speak for the difference between 60 and 144FPS but from what I've heard, it is very noticeable.
Overall, if you have money to spend and don't spend that much time playing First Person Shooters, I'd keep it. If you can get a full refund or love games like Battlefield, I'd go with a 2K 144Hz such as the XG270HU and you'll end up saving 300+ euros. I also don't think you need a g-sync monitor, but it does help with screen tearing when your FPS rendered by your graphics card is higher than the refresh rate of your monitor(which I don't believe would happen often on either a 4K 60Hz or a 2K 144Hz)
Thank you very much for your detailed answer.
I'm a little torn right now.... I may be going for the qnix, but the acer http://www.amazon.de/Acer-XG270HUomidpx-27-Inch-Monitor-FreeSync/dp/B00U2FDO4C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1449918287&sr=8-1&keywords=acer+freesync is basically what I want but over my budget. More than 350€ is too much for me. What do you suggest?
Are there any new releases in 2016?
Good idea.
Oh by the way. I have no idea if it's in your region yet but amazon were doing an Acer 1440p 144hz monitor for £250. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00U2FDO4C?ref_=gb1h_img_m-3_0947_3818ddde&smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE
That is a steal. But to play any major games you may want to beef up your gpu
Just bought a used Acer XG270HU 1440p 144hz for £277. There is another used one still available, slightly more expensive still available for £293 after the discount applied.
NB: If you don't have prime you can sign up for a free 30 day trial. Also if you think the used products might not be worth it, all amazon warehouse deals come with a free 30 day return period.
Updates on deals I found that people might want:
Another monitor i found : Viewsonioc g-sync 1440p 165hz for £389 after discount. New is for £689. Two available
If you cant afford one of the latest cards, or you're on a budget the Gigabyte NVIDIA GTX 970 G1 is for 172 after discount. Might be worth it considering the GPU shortage because of etherium mining. 7 Available
For colour sensitive professional work : ViewSonic VP2770-LED 27-inch WQHD IPS Professional Monitor £255 after discount. £439 new, one available.
Ah okay. Ill drop that out. Would this work? https://www.amazon.co.uk/Acer-XG270HUomidpx-27-Inch-WQHD-Monitor/dp/B00U2FDO4C/ref=sr_1_2?tag=amazon0c83-21&ie=UTF8&qid=1436072305&sr=8-2&keywords=Acer+XG270HU
Would even higher than 1440p be a good option or would that require an even better set up?
I bought this one on the amazon prime day AND i'm very happy since i got it, no regret at all
This would be my next in line- recommend. It has low latency, high frequency, good size and resolution, IPS and even free sync. The stand is not that great though. It won't let you adjust hight, you may need to get monitor mount for the desk.
This. Free sync, 144Hz and 1440p.
4 GB Ram, I5 CPU 750@2,67GHz, Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit. I thought to go for like 27-32 or something inches for monitor and for tv i'm too unsure to make a call. The distance depends on if i buy a tv or a monitor. As for a monitor the distance is just those usual maybe like 80-100cm. And for Tv up to 4 meters i'd say. (i don't have a tv installed atm so i can still decide where i install it) 2560x1600 seems enough to me. I heard 4k is not really worth it if you don't sit 1 meter from ur 80" tv :')
For monitor i came across these to be pretty fitting(i send links to german amazon since they're not available on .com): https://www.amazon.de/Acer-XG270HUomidpx-Displayport-Reaktionszeit-Lautsprecher/dp/B00U2FDO4C/ref=sr_1_4?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1470856317&sr=1-4&keywords=Bildschirm
So are the US links, you're looking at £360 for a 1440p 144hz.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Acer-XG270HUomidpx-27-Inch-Monitor-FreeSync/dp/B00U2FDO4C/
If you can spare the extra ~£75 this acer has freesync and 1440p
There's a great deal going on over at amazon right now Act fast
Thanks looks good, can i get your opinion of these monitors? http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00U2FDO4C/?tag=pcp0f-21 What does the one you linked have over that one for half the price.
I can speak from experience on the more expensive end and you would probably really appreciate how nice a more expensive ~£400 screen would look and at that price point and you could get a 27 inch 2560*1440 (even a 144hz one). And then keep one of your old screens or get a cheaper secondary screen.
This one would fit under 400 and seems pretty nice.
Or this one would push your budget a bit but I recently picked it up and the ips 144hz panel is beautiful for games and design work.
But at the end of the day it depends how much you value high refresh rate/IPS/resolution. I play the same games you do and do dev and design and I have to say I love mine coupled with 2 cheaper 1080p screens.
It's also worth considering how powerful your GPU is and if it can drive a 144hz screen to it's potential.
If you're wanting to stay at 1080p the monitors you linked are both solid bets, with the BenQ you're perhaps paying more of a premium for something very much tailored towards gaming so it's a case if that's worth it for you personally.
