FYI the 970 Evo+ was launched/released earlier this year and is a far better NVMe drive than the original 970 Evo. Otherwise just get something like this
Also you are missing the link to Canada Computers for the NVMe drive
Go with 3600 mhz ram instead of 3200. Swap out the crucial p1 for this. Faster ram will be noticed by about 10 fps usually and most of the times its less than 5-10$ more expensive. Crucial p1 has an issue where it slows down significantly when filled up more than half way. The XPG one is much faster and doesn't have that issue whatsoever.
I mean, the SX8200 Pro is in stock, and is much better than the 660p and 760p. I basically never recommend the 970 Evo as the price is really too high for its performance. The SN750 is fantastic, speaking from experience, but it's also usually a little on the pricier side.
The 760p seems to be a 660p with faster sequential read and slightly faster sequential write speeds. Honestly I'd still get the SX8200 Pro. The 500+ TBW endurance is pretty damn good as well for the 760p.
I got this adata drive and it’s been great:
ADATA XPG SX8200 Pro 1TB 3D NAND NVMe Gen3x4 PCIe M.2 2280 Solid State Drive R/W 3500/3000MB/s SSD (ASX8200PNP-1TT-C) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07K1J3C23/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_Z3ZW151YY41YW4E06DN8?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I was wondering the same thing and asked r/buildapc and the consensus was if it’s just for gaming speed doesn’t matter so just get the cheapest (fairly reputable) one as possible
If you have a spare NVME m.2 spot on your motherboard, you could get an m.2 for storage, it’s as simple as plugging it in and screwing in place of the motherboard tray.
https://www.amazon.com/XPG-SX8200-Gen3x4-3000MB-ASX8200PNP-1TT-C/dp/B07K1J3C23
I would swap to this SSD: (https://www.amazon.com/XPG-SX8200-Gen3x4-3000MB-ASX8200PNP-1TT-C/dp/B07K1J3C23/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?crid=BFJM65IY6OOZ&dchild=1&keywords=adata+sx8200+pro+1tb&qid=1632267582&sprefix=adata+sx&sr=8-3). $15 cheaper and better overall performance. Other than that very solid build for the price -- if/when you're able to land a 3070 for that price, ofc.
I have an Nvme drive in my current build( ADATA XPG SX8200 Pro 1TB 3D NAND NVMe ), acting as my primary drive. I am in the process of upgrading mobo, CPU, and RAM. How do I format/transfer this for my new build?
Building my PC right now.
I have 1 ADATA XPG SX8200 Pro 1TB 3D NAND NVMe Gen3x4 PCIe M.2 2280 Solid State Drive R/W 3500/3000MB/s SSD (ASX8200PNP-1TT-C) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07K1J3C23/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_fabc_UcS2FbSBEXC4W?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Does it matter what m.2 slot I put this in on the mpg b550 gaming edge WiFi? I currently have it in the lower slot with out the heat sink.
Streaming, videos/recording, you'll want to go with NVIDIA. AMDs new stuff is great for high FPS in games, but not much else it seems. (Which gives me a sad, I was pretty excited for RDNA2. VERY happy to hear NVIDIA is gonna be able to use Smart Access Memory as well with these new cards soon)
Don't cheap out on your PSU, 80+ Gold would be my personal recommendation, hard to go wrong with Corsair for that (check r/hardwareswap to get better prices)
5600X comes with a cooler, I'd maybe wait and see if you need a different one by observing temps after building. If you're not overclocking, I don't think you would need to get anything.
Not sure if you'd want to front a little more money on storage or not, but you can get a 2TB NVMe SSD for $220 + tax from Amazon The ADATA SX8200 is a great PCIE 3.0 SSD without the QLC issues like in the cheap Sabrent Q models. Figure it might be a lot easier (even with a SATA SSD) for doing anything with video editing and just avoiding a potentially noisy and slow HDD in the first place.
Awesome! Is this what you were referring to? Amazon Link
Honestly I just decided that I wanted to go NVMe for the SSD, and the I hadn't looked into the 970 competitors enough.
Thank you for your recommendation!

Not really a shame becasue its at Rs.15,215 (https://www.amazon.in/dp/B07K1J3C23), reason why I didn't list it is also its outright non-returnable/replaceable.
And at that price you could get a 2x 1TB WD Blues for ~33% less performance but 100% more capacity. And the WD Black trades blows with it and the Samsung, so you're paying about Rs.4k less for similar performance, no brainer.
All in all at that price its a crap deal.
Ya, it will work perfectly fine and it's not like you would need to get rid of it. I'd just suggest that when you get an NVME that you just clone the BX500 to the new NVME, and you can always use the BX500 for additional game and file storage after. New games coming out in the next 1-2 years you may need to leave some room on the NVME though because future games will benefit from the NVME more than anything already made. It's just that there will just be times when a BX500 could slow down a lot and be closer to an HDD than an SSD.
Edit: I personally bought this one today. The 1tb had been on sale for $108 but it's back to $135 now, so for not much more than a regular SSD at $108 you're getting huge performance gains. Black Friday should have more similar deals.
If they're the same price, get the WD drive. Otherwise, if you have no specialized need, go with the ADATA XPG SX8200 which is on sale for $92 if you have Prime. Same controller as the Inland, generally same experience.
WD drive is geared for a bit more specialized workstation use, shares the same controller as the Sabrent Rocket 4.0, Samsung 970, etc. a tad bit overkill for every day use, but it's still a fantastic drive.
If you're willing to spend an additional $10 I'd go with the ADATA XPG SX8200 Pro , this has been my go to brand since I built my PC last summer and didn't feel like spending an arm and a leg on Samsung... That PNY and WD Black are also good/safe buys... only one I'd stay away from is that Silicon Power, I just don't trust them enough yet to say its worth the risk.
Thank you for the insight. That makes perfect sense.
So instead of the 970 EVO, I should go for something like this? And I know the Gigabyte Z390 UD would be the minimum, but would you recommend getting something a little beefier? I'd like to really invest so I'm okay if it doesn't match my current budget completely.
Thanks so much for the help, I'm super excited to get my hands on a powerful rig for once and your comment has already helped me out a ton!
I'm akin to get an adata. I just need a good big sized USB as I carry with me long wedding footages. Thanks for the heads-up, I steered clear away from Samsung
In stock at amazon
And yeah that MoBo is literally the same as the b550 tomahawk. The only difference is aesthetics and the tomahawk supports higher ram speeds which is negligible because no one runs 5100Mhz ram lol
The factory drive is crazy fast thankfully, I got a 1tb drive for a secondary that is 2/3 as fast and still plenty fast and a lot cheaper than a 970 EVO.
just found the same ssd cheaper on amazon again lol. https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B07K1J3C23?tag=ozbargain-22&linkCode=ogi&th=1
With regards to wait times expect around 2 weeks for it to come through for some of the items since the order is being fulfilled by amazon us/uk
I think your best bet is to go to something like PC part picker and pick a drive and look at the price history. If it's been on sale in the last 2-3 months, that's probably the lowest you can expect it to go before the fall, I'm guessing, but if it's been even lower in the last year, then there is the potential for it to return to that cheaper price further down the line. It's just hard to say when, and if you want a drive in less than two months, your best bet is probably to pick the best deal you can find now, since prices on 1tb drives aren't inflated more than $20-30, I think.
I'd welcome a second opinion on this, but that's my impression of where things are at. If you want a decent bang for your buck 1Tb drive, the XPG SX8200 PRO was reviewed well by Tom's hardware and is on sale on amazon right now for $180:
https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B07K1J3C23/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_wG0aFbJ8VDGBG
The first thing I plan to do when I get it is replace the SSD with a 1TB. Adata has one on sale on Amazon, and I might buy it this weekend.
SX8200 pro is a good value. If you wait until ADATA gets it back in stock you can get it for 161 with no tax.
That was my thought.
Does it make sense to RAID the drives? Also, whats your thoughts on this SSD vs 970EVO.
Edit: Lightning deal is coming up very early tomorrow morning too!
It has been about 6 years since I built a PC. I am out of the loop on many things. Can you tell me why you choose that SSD? It seems slower than some out there for a similar price?
I would swap out the Samsung 860 SSD for an NVMe drive instead. It is considerably faster and roughly the same price.
For example, this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07K1J3C23/ref=psdc_1292116011_t1_B07C8Y31G2
1TB and about 6x as fast as the Samsung 860 1TB SSD you linked.
Also, if you're willing to wait a little while, with the AMD 3xxx CPUs coming out soon, the 2700x will likely drop in price. Or you could get the 3700x for improved performance.
The Noctua cooler you linked is amazing, though you definitely will pay a premium for it and it definitely isn't needed. There are plenty of $30 coolers which will do just fine.
> But as the main drive for only 1 or 2 years
For me personally, I would not use it as a main drive, and absolutely not if I wanted it to last 2 years.
Besides, there are plenty of cheaper SLC/MLC/TLC drives out there right now that are plenty good at a very reasonable price.
For example: $150 for 3500MB/s TLC drive https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07K1J3C23/ref=psdc_1292116011_t3_B07J2Q4SWZ
It has DRAM buffers + TLC (anything bug QLC basically) and is crazy fast and high speed. Excellent buy there.
Looks like the real winner here is that Adata drive. Very good performance for about $100 less. Around $80 less if you compare it to the WD Black without the heatsink. Then again, an increasing number of motherboards are shipping with their own M.2 heatsinks.
Here's an NVMe drive with similar performance to the Samsung Evo but half the price https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07K1J3C23/ref=twister_B07PSN9CYQ?_encoding=UTF8&th=1 Also 1TB for the same you'd be paying, with only slightly slower speeds that you probably won't notice
It's a relatively useful relevant product that significantly dropped in price recently.
It'll be difficult to find a good deal for one used.
Keep an eye out for sales like the XPG SX8200 Pro for $219.99 (no tax)
I'm not saying you shouldn't have a backup solution, regardless of which model you use, just that the statistics of drive failures is not uniform. I understand that the EVO 860 and the SU655 aren't directly comparable, but the Samsung and Adata lineups don't exactly mesh up 1-to-1 and the SU655 had the most reviews/best statistics. Taking their flagship XPG SX8200 Pro, instead, still has 3.0% of the comments which are critical and contain the word "fail", but there are only 33 total reviews (compared to 310 for the SU655) so the statistics is poor to point of being unusable.
I'm running Adata SX8200 and highly recommend it. But for general PC use, you will need truly need the high speeds that any of those NVME SSD will give you. I do think NVME is worth it though. I say it's worth spend the money for the peace of mind.
That said, if you were on a budget and wanted to save that $20-40, you can get a larger SSD in 2.5" format. But personally, just makes us feel better that we got a 'NVME' haha.
I do use my system for video editing, just makes me personally feel better that my system has the least amount of bottlenecks. Especially if you are running a 9th gen Intel proc.
They are not on the WVZl but to be fair there are VERY few NVMe drives on the list. Personally I think you will be good.
Here is the pro version.
XPG SX8200 Pro 1TB 3D NAND NVMe Gen3x4 PCIe M.2 2280 Solid State Drive R/W 3500/3000MB/s SSD (ASX8200PNP-1TT-C) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07K1J3C23/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_nueCCbJ1R1E5J
1tb version also $81 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07K1J3C23/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
EDIT: Nevermind, this one is gone already. Went super fast.
Admittedly, first time making a post, so maybe this isn't that good of a deal. But Amazon (maybe Prime particularly) gave a $5 coupon on this, bringing it to $64.99. Given that the WD Blue and Crucial P1 are just $5 cheaper and this is a lot faster, it seems like a really good drive, with some comparisons out there to the Samsung 970 Pro (if not quite there). Take that for what you will - looks like a good quick M.2.
The 1TB is also available for $124.99 with a $10 coupon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07K1J3C23/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1
DRAM, SLC, PCIe NVMe
Not really, here is one of the fastest for load times (QD1-4 performance / 4K random) for $130, often goes on sale for $120:
https://www.amazon.com/XPG-SX8200-Gen3x4-3000MB-ASX8200PNP-1TT-C/dp/B07K1J3C23/
how is this SSD vs this ADATA one??
https://www.amazon.com/XPG-SX8200-Gen3x4-3000MB-ASX8200PNP-1TT-C/dp/B07K1J3C23. Posted 512GB link. Sale is for 1tb and 2tb model.
Apologies.
Here you go: ADATA XPG SX8200 Pro 1TB 3D NAND NVMe Gen3x4 PCIe M.2 2280 Solid State Drive R/W 3500/3000MB/s SSD (ASX8200PNP-1TT-C) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07K1J3C23/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_BYHHFbBWYCX6Q
Allright Im getting a 2TB to not worry about this
https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07K1J3C23/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
This thing should be speedy enough :D
Yeah my question is also about the SSD... not familiar with that brand, and also seems like you could get something better (or at least more convenient) by going with an NVME drive? That's one of the main things that would be different from the last time you built, the wide availability and cheap prices of NVME drives. They mount right on the motherboard as opposed to needing a place for a 2.5" and needing to run both data and power cables to that.
You could find some 1TB ones for around $90-95, or this one is my preferred bang-for-buck one on sale at $105: https://smile.amazon.com/XPG-SX8200-Gen3x4-3000MB-ASX8200PNP-1TT-C/dp/B07K1J3C23/ref=sr_1_24?crid=B92ZL2JEEHST&dchild=1&keywords=1tb+ssd+nvme&qid=1612820041&s=electronics&sprefix=1+tb+ssd+nv%2Celectronics%2C166&sr=1-24
EDIT: Oh and also, don't worry about "gamer" branding on anything, they all do that. That's a very well-liked motherboard and especially if it has something like wifi you were gonna have to buy separately, go for it.
Hey, that's super sweet. $100 parts that are useful no matter what choices he makes are SSD, RAM, Case, CPU Cooler, PSU and, of course, RGB fans.
Opinions will vary of what you should get since each part selection depends on the overall build and budget, so if you knew how much he's willing to spend in total I would be able to give you the best recommendation.
Personally, I would recommend getting a good quality NVME SSD like a XPG 8200 Pro 1TB when they go on sale: https://www.amazon.com/XPG-SX8200-Gen3x4-3000MB-ASX8200PNP-1TT-C/dp/B07K1J3C23
You generally can't go wrong with the SSD pick since all systems, no matter the size, need a hard drive and the one linked is easily one of the best out there, especially for the money. There's also the SK Hynix Gold P31 1 TB that's one of the top of the chart picks: https://www.amazon.com/SK-hynix-Gold-500GB-Internal/dp/B08DK2FB7G
Wait for sales though.
Otherwise, I guess you can't go wrong with RGB fans. Just note that many cases come with fans preinstalled and CPU coolers as well, so without knowing what those are, it's hard to say whether or not he'll need them although he most-likely will. Corsair is pretty popular with the lads but you can type "rgb fans" in an Amazon search and get shopping. Here's some Corsair LL ones: https://www.amazon.com/Corsair-LL120-120mm-Light-Lighting/dp/B075VGN4M1/
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07K1J3C23/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1
best m2 you can get for the money. any cheaper m2's will probably have bad speeds. go with a sata ssd though if it's over your budget
That's a pretty powerful build and can totally hit 144 fps on certain games at 1440p. Anyways, either of these two SSDs are just as good if not better than the Samsung SSD on your list for less. Samsung tends to over charge for their storage.

I am basically in your exact same boat, with a very similar parts list to build granted I get my hands on the 3080 tomorrow. The one thing I was advised to take another look at was the storage. After some more research I found the ADATA XPG SX8200 Pro will allow for proper M.2 speeds. It's about $20 more than your P1 but it might be worth checking out. Good luck tomorrow! https://www.amazon.com/XPG-SX8200-Gen3x4-3000MB-ASX8200PNP-1TT-C/dp/B07K1J3C23

I currently have an ADATA XPG SX8200 Pro 1TB 3D NAND NVMe SSD connected to my ASRock B450 Pro 4 motherboard. Note this is the full size B450, not the small B450m. Can I install a second NVME to this motherboard? ASRock's linked website makes it seem like it, but SSDs aren't a component I'm knowledgeable about. I can't tell if you the answer is, "Yes, dummy, there's 2 NVME slots," or "Nope, there's 2 slots but one only goes up to SATA SSDs and they've worded it in a confusing way to make it look better for marketing purposes."

For Gaming
Should I get the XPG SX8200 PRO or should I spend an extra bunch of money for the SN850?
Is 7,000mb/s going to make a difference to anything?
Is 3,500mb/s enough to load games quickly and still load some files quickly?
I am looking at the 2tb version of both
Also should I get a 2tb version or two 1tb version's
ADATA XPG SX8200 Pro 1TB is $120 and it’s been solid. I’ve used it for a little over a year now with zero issues. Lots of good reviews too.
I am not sure if that is a good deal. I just got two 1TB NVMe drives to upgrade my cache for $109 each.

my only suggestion is that you can save money on the SSD. go with the Silicon Power A80 or the ADATA XPG SX8200 Pro. they perform identically in gaming scenarios

Are you referring to this and this? If so, the A2000 was more affordable than both of them yesterday, 'til it shot up to $160 today. Thanks for mentioning they both have DRAM, because that is absolutely a priority.
I don't need an NVMe drive, but I figure if I'm planning to not upgrade my build for a while and they're close enough in price [to a SATA drive], I may as well get the faster drive with no cabling required. And I can just use up all my M.2 slots now and not have to worry about clearance/access later. If I need additional storage down the line, I'll still have space for at least three 2.5" SSDs and a bunch of 3.5" HDDs.

Nothing wrong with your cooler, as I said, I dislike the colors used in many Noctua products but that's just me...
The RAM you listed is fine, just not as good as the one I listed but it's not a big deal at all...
I have gripes with the NVME SSD you listed though, the Crucial P1 is definetely not the drive I'd put in such a nice system, it's a poor drive being QLC, slower than TLC drives... I would instead use either this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07K1J3C23?tag=pcp0f-21&linkCode=ogi&th=1&psc=1
Or this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07M64QXMN?tag=pcp0f-21&linkCode=ogi&th=1&psc=1
They're both TLC NVME SSDs with DRAM on them (something many SSDs don't have and something you definetely want)...
By the way, what is the 240GB SSD for?
So this m.2 would still work?

Why so keen on the Ryzen 7 3700X?
One thing you can do for cost would be to go for an adata SSD over the samsung https://www.amazon.co.uk/ADATA-SX8200-Gaming-Solid-State/dp/B07K1J3C23 here which would reduce cost.
Could also consider an MSI X570 motherboard which may also bring the cost down too, might be a tad bit quicker.
But I myself would be going for a 750W PSU, due to the CPU and GPU having room for OC.
I'd also look at a better cooler than that on a Ryzen 7.
I have been using this for 6 months for motion design and video editing and the speeds were reaaaly good, I highly recommend it https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07K1J3C23/
I wish i could get that but its not available in my country
What about that
I consider main the one with OS on it. But yeah that's what I did. I have a 1tb and couldn't be happier.

Was a little tight - as the original ssd has chips on only one side - but it went in and I haven't had any issues.
Just be slow with peeling back the rubber feet and it should be easy. You can pry the back off by starting at the hinge.
The Samsung ram I ordered is here (I had already ordered Samsung ram from a recommended post on here as the posters 5P came with Samsung branded ram installed but mine came with Kingston, can confirm they both run dual channel) ~ https://www.flexxmemory.co.uk/memory/samsung-8gb-ddr4-pc4-25600-3200mhz-260-pin-sodimm-1-2v-cl-22-laptop-ram-memory-module/
And the SSD I got here (Black Friday will show better deals, they knocked the price off Sabrent SSD’s the day after I ordered this!) ~ ADATA XPG SX8200 Pro 1TB M.2 Gaming Solid State Drive (SSD), black https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07K1J3C23/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabc_cb3VFbQYHQXW9?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Currently in my PC, snagged it this past black Friday for $100, well worth the purchase.
Firstly, thank you for your service to members of the PC building community. I am a noob and have learned a lot from your posts.
Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I haven't been able to find a definitive answer in my research.
I have 2 m.2 slots on my x570 tomahawk. I currently have two ADATA XPG SX8200 Pro 1TBs and one SK hynix Gold P31 1TB.
Prices being equal, which would you return?
In case this matters: I am hoping to pick up a 2tb m.2 ssd on Black Friday/Cyber Monday and have been looking at the xpg line, but have heard there was a controller change leading to marginally poorer performance.
Thank you in advance!
Sweet, thanks for the tip! :) What does the gigabyte offer, that the other does not? I'm liking the integrated WIFI on the Tomahawk one, that's why I'm leaning towards that, if the WIFI card is good.
Also gonna use buy this: https://www.amazon.com/XPG-SX8200-Gen3x4-3000MB-ASX8200PNP-1TT-C/dp/B07K1J3C23 Should fit nice with the X570 as far as I know :) Why is the read/write speed insanely high compared to a standard SSD like kingston KC600?
https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07K1J3C23/ref=twister_B07WQKKS8V?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
best m2 gen 3 you can buy. fantastic speeds as fast as advertised. I wouldn't trust anything cheaper
How is is compared to the ADATA XPG SX8200 Pro
It’s currently $119.99.
The best priced 1TB drive with DRAM is this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07K1J3C23?pf_rd_r=GZC1761FZZ4GTCTBEX4D&pf_rd_p=e632fea2-678f-4848-9a97-bcecda59cb4e
Another option you could consider is going for a 500GB NVME SSD for now, pairing with the 2TB HDD, and in case add another SSD later on
Is this better than this which is $119 after the $10 coupon?
We don't Horse around here.

I got really lucky during the Amazon Prime sale. I purchased a 1TB ADATA M.2 SX8200 Pro for only $100. https://www.amazon.com/XPG-SX8200-Gen3x4-3000MB-ASX8200PNP-1TT-C/dp/B07K1J3C23
My speedtests were pretty darn close to the advertised speeds. Despite some of the complaints about ADATA by Samsung fans, this has been a fantastic SSD purchase. I did have to be careful about which M.2 I purchased because I didn't have enough space for any of the M.2 with a big heatsink. I did apply the heatsink provided in the box. I tracked down a lot of the complaints only to find out they were for completely different products or they were installed without following instructions, like leaving the Optane setting enabled in the BIOS when they were trying to use the M.2 as a boot drive.
For the RAM, I chose Kingston (2x16GB) HyperX Impact Part# HX426S15IB2K2/32 I had to shop around to find the kit for $130. The 2666MHz speed and CL15 latency are right in the sweet spot for my processor. Plus, the sticks didn't have huge, preinstalled heatsinks. I don't ever want to dig through RAM specs again.
1 TB is available at Amazon @ 129 with the clip coupon
They're $123 on amazon right now. Just fyi. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07K1J3C23/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_jGe1DbCY8XDJB
For about 50 bucks more you can pick up a ADATA XPG SX8200 Pro 1TB 3D NAND NVMe on amazon.

I've been using this as my main drive since Feb.
Crucial p1 aint the best for storage. It slows down significantly whenever more than halfway full. Go with a big more quality m.2.

Just bought [this](https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07K1J3C23/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) because it was an amazing deal that I didn't think I should hesitate to pass up. However, I saw the description where it states:
> 5 year PCIe M. 2 2280 is not compatible with SATA M. 2 2280, Please check your system spec before purchasing
I have an [ASUS Prime Z270-AR](https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/PRIME-Z270-AR/specifications/), will this mobo be compatible with the SSD?
Should I pay 218 for 2 of these? https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07K1J3C23/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Or 180 for 2 of the Intel?
Searching for it also did not find the discounted page but here's the link: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07K1J3C23/ref=sr_1_32?dchild=1&psr=PDAY. Also, it looks like if you pay the higher price it's currently in stock...
This is a good deal for an NVMe drive (if you have Prime): https://smile.amazon.com/XPG-SX8200-Gen3x4-3000MB-ASX8200PNP-1TT-C/dp/B07K1J3C23/ref=sr_1_4?dchild=1&psr=PDAY&qid=1602632702&s=prime-day&sr=1-4
It still on sale, you just have to go Adata's page. If that link doesn't work, use the search bar and make sure you select 'prime deals' for the category.

They seem to have a fair number of pricing issues lately. In other news the SX8200 Pro 1TB is $129 again - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07K1J3C23/
Swap out the ssd for something other than a crucial p1. Get this instead.
The XPG SX 8200 has some of the best price to performance for M.2 drives, plus it's on sale for 180
I use an adata sx8200 pro, comes with a 5 year warranty if u register it on their website and its faster than a sabrent rocket and not much more expensive
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07K1J3C23/ref=twister_B07WQKKS8V?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
although i think the sabret rocket q 1tb is onsale for 99$, its slightly slower in write speeds but thats all. just remeber to get nvme screws bc there arent any for the second drive slot in the xps 15 or 17
Hey, there are a few laptops currently that work well for you I'd think, though your budget is a bit lower than you'd want if you want a I7 and a Nvidia GPU. Since you are doing Matlab and lighter steam games, I'd go with the HP Envy or HP Omen currently. There are more like the Dell XPS which is nice, but that will cost around $1100.
The Envy comes with a cheaper Ryzen Model, which comes with a nicer processor but GPU similar to the MX-250 or MX-350 from NVIDIA. This model is around $900 after upgrading the ram and storage.

The Omen is nice because it comes with a dedicated GPU, the NVIDIA 1650 Ti, which is more than enough for your games. It does come with an I5 instead though, and therefore is a bit underwhelming when you run CPU intensive tasks, but works out well and can be upgraded. That would come out to around $1150 for upgrades in ram and a SSD.

You can upgrade the RAM or SSD on your own for cheaper, especially if you want a 1TB drive, but will likely not have a great time with warranty if you do. Keep that in mind.

For a 1TB m.2 SSD (This is the one I will always use, its cheaper and faster than my Samsung 950 EVO, which is the top recommended SSD) - https://www.amazon.com/XPG-SX8200-Gen3x4-3000MB-ASX8200PNP-1TT-C/dp/B07K1J3C23

Ram is a bit pickier, just look up the laptop and look for a ram upgrade guide (Those will tell you if the laptop needs a certain type of ram).
ditch those drives and get this 1tb m.2 nvme ssd
m.2 pcie 3 as 4 isn't available on any laptop yet. went with the asus rog strix arion enclosure as I liked the look and build quality even though it comes at a bit of a premium but even that turned fortunate as the laptop I ended up with is an asus rog strix g15 and the rgb on the enclosure syncs with the keyboard automatically. Honestly just bought it for it being aluminum and rugged since I need it for work and I tend to toss things.
there are different m.2 drives, but nvme is sort of its own set with others being sata. I don't know of any current laptops on offer that have the sata set as it's dated but you can read about them here
edit: g14 will be nvme - m.2 is basically the form factor and nvme is the interface so if you see m.2 nvme and not m.2 sata on the hw list, that tells you which to get. I bought two of these adata drives, they get advertised speeds, have good reviews and a generous warranty. Currently with coupon it's $128USD for the 1TB
Very interesting! I decided to go with an ADATA XPG SX8200 Pro.
As far as SSD you could save some money there. The SN750 might be overkill. One option is something like the SX8200 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07K1J3C23/
Or since the MB supports it, you could choose to do the smaller size WD SN750 (or similar) and pair it with a budget NVMe like https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07YFFX5MD giving you a little more storage without much drop off.
This is an excellent deal for the price, due to the software you get with it (and samsung pricing) SN 550 at that price is a terrible deal when you can get miles better performance for literally £17-25 more that often drop below that, such as This or This - That I have. The P34A80 i bought for £117, the sabrent rocket 1TB was on sale here for £99 not long ago too, that's on par with the Samsung and others I listed
XPG SX8200 Pro or Sabrent Rocket (2 TB models)?
I game a lot and do a little bit of video and picture editing.

This one: https://www.amazon.com/XPG-SX8200-Gen3x4-3000MB-ASX8200PNP-1TT-C/dp/B07K1J3C23/
It's up there with the fastest and has one of the lowest idling power draws. NVMe is correct, and you'd ideally want something that's a TLC (Triple-Layered Cell) SSD which has better longevity and is faster than the slightly cheaper QLC (Quad-Layered Cell) drives.

Note that the same drive is $180 on Amazon right now: https://www.amazon.ca/SX8200-NAND-NVMe-Gen3x4-PCIe/dp/B07K1J3C23/, so $1 more than this after Memex's shipping fee and has free one-day delivery (at least if you have Prime).
NUC10i7FNH1 - US$618 at Newegg (similar price at B&H) and the NUC8i7BEH1 is only $550.
G.Skill 2x16GB DDR4-2400 - US$135 at Newegg
ADATA XPG SX8200 Pro 1TB NVMe SSD - US$150 at Amazon
Total = US$903
Sounds good.
Take a look at this: https://www.anandtech.com/show/13953/plugable-usbcnvme-toolless-nvme-ssd-enclosure-capsule-review
They list out a number of NVMe enclosures and compare which ones are good. As I said before, I use the MyDigitalSSD NVMe enclosure, but they suggest another one that's better, with links to Amazon.
As for NVMe SSDs, they're usually broken down by tiers - Samsung is considered the best, but a number of other vendors have come much closer to their speed and endurance (although I believe Samsung is still the market leader).
Check out: https://www.tweaktown.com/cat/storage/m2-ssds/index.html and https://www.tweaktown.com/articles/8661/best-ssd-gaming-over-120-ssds-tested/index.html (esp. the final thoughts page) for some ideas.
If you're still not sure, reply here or search /r/buildapc, as they have been asked about NVMe SSDs before. Just be prepared to answer the usual questions (such as price ceiling, how large, purpose of the USB drive, etc.) if you ask.
If it is really isn't a lot of heavy duty usage (tons of writing, running a database, etc.), then the other suggestions are just as good.
In case you want to know what I use, I have an Adata XPG 8200 Pro 1TB in an MyDigitalSSD NVMe Enclosure. I use it for booting into an OS, as well as moving large data between various systems, and for watching various movies. It's overkill (except for moving large data), but it's fast and works well for my use case.
>Basically if you see any leak talking about 1 TB of SSD storage you can laugh about them and go on. A console will 1 TB of SSD storage (let alone NVMe SSD, let alone a custom NVMe SSD) will be more than $500.
Lmao, dude do some research. Here is a 1.5GB+/s NVMe 1TB for 150€. But that's incl. 19% VAT. Other offers start at 160€ and include additional 12% amazon fee & shipping costs. The merchant gets slightly less than 110€ but probably has a 10-20% margin & the manufacturer probably a similar margin. The production costs are most likely below 80€, may around 60€ which is around $66.
Yes a 500GB SSD is more likely but even a fast custom 1TB PCIe4 NVMe is only around $100 in production. Of course a fancy one in small scale production would be much more expensive. However PS5 SSDs will be produced in HUGE numbers (much higher than common SSDs) thus get cheaper due scaling.
I’m using this one
SX8200 pro is $159.99 today
thank you so much I'll look into the Noctua cooler! Last question sorry to bother you, do you think a M.2 ADATA XPG SX8200 would be worth the upgrade over the mx500 or 860 EVO?
What is the largest file size you're loading in Solidworks? You will really only see a benefit of a Gen4 NVME if you're loading very large files, and very often.
Gen4 NVME's and modern high end SSD's perform very similarly in file access times, and there is no difference in file access times on a Gen4 NVME vs. a Gen3 NVME vs. an SSD. Honestly, you could put all the files on my SSD that I have on my NVME, and in 99% of the cases I wouldn't be able to tell you which drive I'm loading from, because it's so uncommon that applications are bottlenecked by storage bandwidth.
Depending on what you're doing in Solidworks, you will likely be better served by budgeting more towards a 32GB kit (2x16GB) of RAM, and getting a Gen3x4 NVME (an Adata XPG 8200 is a great mid-tier NVME that will likely do everything you'd expect from fast storage for Solidworks)
Also, the 5700 XT performs the same on a PCI-E 2.0 slot as it would on a PCI-E 4.0 slot, in fact even a 2080 Ti only loses 2-3 FPS at 4K on PCI-E 2.0. GPU's are just nowhere near needing the extra bandwidth.
I understand wanting to be up-to-date with a new build, but X570 is currently a very niche platform for people who need GOBS of storage bandwidth. Unless you have an endless budget, the way to get the most out of Zen2 is to go as completely overkill on the cooling as you can afford first, and then consider the motherboard second. Even most B450 boards will have the same boost frequency as an X570, simply because the VRM's aren't what's limiting Zen2 in most cases, it's the cooling.
If you have the budget for it, obviously a high end X570 and a high end AIO water cooler or open loop is great. However, if you'd like to save money and reallocate for the best performance, you can use a lower tier X570 in order to move more of your budget to water cooling, and you'll see the same performance as the high end X570.
Just some suggestions for getting the most out of Zen2 for your hard earned cash!
Could someone take a look at these two Adata NVMe SSDs and explain how they're different and why they're priced differently?
ADATA SX8200 3D NAND NVMe Gen3x4 M.2 2280 Solid State Drive (ASX8200NP-960GT-C)
What do you think of this SSD, the one you suggested isn’t available on Amazon Canada,
https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B07K1J3C23/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_FHT-CbPNMJG5S
Based on my research I would...
Keep the CPU (but maybe wait for Ryzen drop, could lower the price)
Keep the Cooler (Reviews very well)
Spend slightly more on some better ram (Patriot Viper DDR4-4400 - $80 )
I personally would want to spend a bit more on a more reliable SSD and maybe drop the HDD until I needed more space, or could add an additional SSD. ($150 - ADATA XPG 1TB) )
Sounds like you might drop down to the 2070 based on your comments, if that’s the case, I would also wait for the AMD Navi drop for the RX 5700XT, either switch to this one or see if the price on the 2070 drops.
Case seems pretty good. On my personal build I will be going with something like the MB500 but I also like the black with rgb, Which may be not to your liking.
PSU looks like a good choice, especially for the price/wattage which gives you plenty of overhead for expansion and OC’ing should you be interested
I haven’t looked much into monitors so I’ll shy away from that.
1 x M.2 Socket 3 connector (M2F_32G) (Socket 3, M key, type 2242/2260/2280/22110 SATA & PCIe x4/x2/x1 SSD support)

Which is one notch where the B and M use two.

The adata: This SSD uses M andB key. Please check your system spec before purchase.

They are supposed to be compatible but I haven't tested. When you get the B & M key, it will take up 2 lanes vs 4. I'd stick with getting an M key but someone else can chime in. Plus the M key on the pcie bus will be a hell of lot faster (550 MB/s vs 2 to 3 GB/s).

Those reviews though.

Not sure about fans but the power supply is the one that has all the power connectors. Anyhow i would recommend 32 gb of cheaper RAM as intel barely if at all benefits from RAM speed https://pcpartpicker.com/product/KMCD4D/gskill-ripjaws-v-32gb-2-x-16gb-ddr4-3000-memory-f4-3000c16d-32gvrb
Also a cheaper NVME SSD https://www.amazon.com/XPG-SX8200-Gen3x4-3000MB-ASX8200PNP-1TT-C/dp/B07K1J3C23 and just as fast
Maybe the cheapest 2080ti out there https://www.evga.com/products/product.aspx?pn=11G-P4-2281-KR
When undeclocked and undervolted it should perform wonderfully
Whos saying the vega 56 overheats and stutter? That seeems like misinformation at worst and anecdotal info at best. Anyway yeah a 1660ti may work better as it has better power efficiency over thje long run.

Also which nvme are you getting, i would recommend cheaper alternatives to the 970 evo and definitely dont get the intel 660p which due to being QLC will last much less and becomes slow after just a bit of writing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OffzVc7ZB-o

Do I need to worry about my MOBO's QVL for SSDs? I'm planning to snag this MOBO while it's on sale @ Newegg. I was hoping to grab this SSD, as it seems like a great deal, and has excellent reviews. The PRO 1tb model of the SSD is not on the linked QVL page, in fact none of the PRO models; however, the QVL does list the less than 1tb non-PRO models as compatible. I'm hoping to use this drive as my boot drive, and boot drive compatibility is my main concern for following the QVL. Should this matter? Thanks!
