For 750/month you can hire a freelancer who has experience and will manage your ads. I mean if you have time you can learn it of course that is a great thing :) I would recommend youtube tutorials as a first step. I also used this book: https://www.amazon.ca/Advanced-Google-AdWords-Brad-Geddes/dp/111881956X/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1539989612&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=advanced+google+adwords&dpPl=1&dpID=412JOoqC53L&ref=plSrch
but well it was few years so probably now you would need to find something newer
I recommend this to all of my employees and anyone that ever approaches me with the goal of learning more about AdWords as a great first place to start - read "Advanced Google AdWords" by Brad Geddes. It's not the end all, be all but it gives you an absolutely fantastic knowledge base. It's hefty/dense and at times it feels like you're reading a textbook but it will give you a fantastic grasp on the technical aspects of paid search as well as the psychology that goes into all things search.
Also - I must say that it's rare for someone in your position to have a deep understanding of search and that I'd absolutely love if that was the case with a few of my clients. Your desire to truly learn and go above and beyond managing relationships says a lot about you as an employee
I agree with this. There are a few good books out there that will have you up to speed in no time. This one by Brad Geddes is the best, in my opinion:
There's also a decent book by Perry Marshall.
Pick a specialism and stick to it initially (ie, search OR display - don't try to master both at the same time. I would advise starting with search as the traffic tends to be a lot more targeted).
Reading a book is all well and good but the real learning comes from jumping in and managing your own campaigns - spending real money.
One last tip: If paid clicks don't work initially, test test test until they do. Don't give up easily. If they don't work after a tonne of testing, your website/landing page may be the problem - not the traffic/source of traffic.
The best advice I can give?
Read "Advanced AdWords" by Brad Geddes:
+1 to this. The Search Fundamentals and eventually the Advanced search study guides and exams are your best bet to learning the core of PPC.
I would also purchase the best book on PPC, "Advanced Google AdWords" by Brad Geddes.

That is great. Feel free to email me if you ever have any questions. . Also cannot recommend this book enough.
Read this book front to back over a weekend. Apply the last and first chapter religiously. You'll do just fine. It's THE AdWords bible.

I started this journey by reading this book. Highly recommended

There are agencies/freelancers that work on this size accounts, and well, but they may be a bit tougher to find. Lots of recommendations to do it yourself -- if that's the path you do take, I would recommend two books, one by Brad Geddes, the other by Perry Marshall. They're both a touch outdated as Google has made a lot of changes in the past 0-2 years, but they provide a GREAT foundation to take on Google Ads:

Get the Brad Geddes book (even though it's a bit outdated since Google has changed a ton in the past 1-2 years): https://www.amazon.com/Advanced-Google-AdWords-Brad-Geddes/dp/111881956X
Take Google recommendations and the Ads Academy courses (which a lot of people here recommended) with a BIG grain of salt. I ignore 90% of the recommendations and haven't taken the courses in like 3 years.
Your Google reps are sales people, usually via a 3rd party, looking to meet quotas and get you to adopt new features. They are not Ads experts.

about the most solid grounding you can get in adwords and how to plan/structure/execute ppc campaigns
Without a shadow of a doubt the best training you can get is:

Brad Geddes is the best educator on PPC hands down.
He also has the same book as a video on his website, http://certifiedknowledge.org/
He also did a course I did not know about until recently on MarketMotive, which is owned and operated by Google's top Evangeleist.
Trust me when I tell you, that book is the best $25 you'll spend on training for PPC. It explains not only the technical, but the mindset behind PPC which is more important. Technology changes, the mindset does not.
Lastly, sign up for Google Partners program, get a couple $100 AdWords coupons, throw a simple sit up on Unbounce or Wix for a local business owner and manage their PPC for free for a month. Generate some leads for them and I can guarentee you with their testimonial and proof of conversion in your AdWords MCC account you will beat out 99% of other entry level participants.
This is coming from someone who trains and hires paid search PPC newbies as local and remote workers for my paid search agency.
