Fucking laziness. I'd never seen a roach until I moved to Baltimore. A few months after I moved in, my hoarder neighbors moved out. Being a row home, their house was literally against mine.
I was infested with roaches practically overnight. I guess they began to starve and scattered.
I tried those little black roach traps - lol those were just like food to them.
We cleaned, bleached, borax powder, all kinds of shit...
Eventually I found this beautiful gift from glorious Roach Satan!
Used two tubes then the other two a couple weeks later. I'm pretty sure I wiped out every roach on the entire fucking block. Nothing works like this stuff.
Also, RIP PS4 and Keurig... I literally just gagged thinking about them in my Keurig. Realizing that was a thing was traumatizing.
Can't they all fly? Anyway get a good roach bait if you have roaches. This one worked wonders for me in the past: https://www.amazon.com/advion-Plungers-Cockroach-Insecticide-Australian/dp/B00730QW70/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=roach+bait&qid=1561828873&s=gateway&sr=8-5

I don’t sell or have any gain from posting this! But I used this stuff after moving in to a roach infested house and it killed every single one of them. I was shocked. You can put it where the cats can’t get to it. I used maybe two tubes of it for a (smallish) 4 BR house with a full basement.
As a heads up, this is amazing. https://www.amazon.com/advion-Plungers-Cockroach-Insecticide-Australian/dp/B00730QW70/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=roach+killer&qid=1620180893&sprefix=roach+&sr=8-3
I moved into a house with a severe infestation that was probably there for years before I bought the place. This worked in less than a week or so. It isn't a kill on contact. It kills the nest.
Unfortunately, with roaches, you're just going to have to feed on a schedule and pick it up.
This gel bait works like magic. You might need to keep putting down more as they dry up, but you'll notice the numbers dwindling within a few days.
There's no guarantee that moving to a new place would fix the issue. Even if the new building doesn't have them now, it's possible they'll have them a month from now. They're basically everywhere in the city.
I'd ask your manager if they have any kind of pest control schedule. My building has a rotating schedule where they put some gel down or spray each apartment and the exterior on an annual basis.
Approaching property management is a good start but might not solve your problem at this stage of an infestation. Once you’ve contacted them the pest control firm will likely ask you to empty out all cabinetry/pantry in kitchen and will check for areas to seal and treat with chemicals. In a single family home, this would be a start. The problem is the bugs move among the units. So if your neighbors aren’t taking care of business, you are going to have a hard time clearing the roaches out.
There are several DIY products you can purchase from Amazon to take some action immediately. This line of products is good- they also have bait stations that might be worth a try.
We rented a house from a family member (bad idea) and found out it had a horrible infestation of German cockroaches. This stuff was the only thing we found that worked. We reapplied every 3 days or so, which was prob overkill, and waited about two weeks.
You need this stuff Don’t bother with anything else. This is the nuclear option. You don’t want to put very much in any one place. 4 tubes can last you a long time - if you put too much out it’s less effective (no clue why). Just a dab in some roach favorite areas. Near water sources like toilets/sinks.
It will take 3-4 days and you’ll still see roaches. They often come out to die so you may see even more before the problem abates.
If you have the funds I’d stay somewhere else while you lay down the poison. Just return daily to sweep up the dead ones
Exterminators have to use stuff that’s less deadly (I guess for liability reasons?) so don’t expect it to help. My exterminator kicks ass so when I have an issue he comes out uses the stuff his company recommends and then tells me the real stuff to buy. Lol.
I know you said you've tried everything, but out of wanting to help, have you tried Advion?
I used to have them as well, but man, after I did this a couple of times, it seems like the vast majority got flushed out. Don't get me wrong, when you first use it, they will come out en masse. You will see them everywhere. But after a while they just start dying. If you live in a house , I recommend this.
You have to really place the Advion though. In your cracks and crevices, in the deepest , darkest corners that no one usually goes to.
If you live in an apartment, townhouse, or something along those lines, then it's tough, because the infestation may not even be your fault. You'd have to get everyone else on board...which may not be likely
I wish the best for you man, truly.
I used this stuff after moving into a place that was infested and the landlords wouldn’t do anything about it:
advion 383920 4 Tubes and 4 Plungers Cockroach German Roach Pest Control Inse, Brown https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00730QW70/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabc_V4dYFb2ZDDMGX
I swear it was like a miracle. I put it in the corners of the kitchen (as well as other places) and the next morning I found dozens of dead roaches on the kitchen floor. I swept them up and the next morning there were dozens more. It literally killed all the cockroaches in the entire place, which I didn’t think was possible. After a week or so, I used my vacuum and vacuumed the inside of all the cupboards and washed the shelves to get the hidden ones disposed of.
I made an effort at getting all the food and trash out of my place but I had three teens and honestly it was never fully clean, and this still worked. So do what you can with the trash and food but you can start using this right away, you don’t have to get all that stuff out first.
I had two cats so I put it in obscure corners they couldn’t reach and they were never harmed.
oh hey, i might be using the wrong terminology. by residual i just meant, the pesticide in it is an Imidacloprid , which i thought was one of the ones that had a residual effect. (like the roaches eat it, and shit it out or something and then the others eat it and it kills them too. i'm sorry if i misunderstand it..) vs. things like boric acid or maybe raid, where i thought it would only kill the roach that ate it. i might be completely misunderstanding this concept.
Another gel one i've seen recommended is Advion. I'd settled on the InVict gold because the ratings seemed a little higher and it was a bit cheaper. PcDurant had mentioned the gels of this type are pretty going to be of the same effectiveness. (though i don't want to speak for him, hopefully i understood!)
oh, i understand now why you recommended the Nuvan. the mothballs themselves might trigger my asthma (i just looked this up and they are on the list of asthma triggers). Got it. I did not realize Nuvan could be a substitute for this. Are you recommending to put the Nuvan in the packed bags themselves? (I was going to get mothballs, just to put inside the bags I am packing and sealing, not as something to put around in my new house.)
The problem with apartments is you are only as clean as your neighbors are. We had roaches in every place we lived in that shared a wall with other people. As soon as we moved to a single family house..nothing
Seal everything. Go under the sinks and seal the holes between the pipes and cupboards with expanding foam
use this stuff.
Burn the apartment complex to the ground
this stuff really works, and is amazing.
This will last you through graduation:
For roaches (German variety) I’ve always read Advion is truly the best as it kills all the ones you don’t see which usually are a lot more than one can imagine. But again, where to find it in Canada, I’m not sure.
It's this stuff. +1 for how well it works - my first apartment in a city was above a bodega/bar/restaurant. The management was so nonchalant about it that I bought this and never really had an issue after that.
This is industrial grade roach killer. Put this out and in two weeks the only roach you'll see will be dead.
This product worked wonders for me: https://www.amazon.com/advion-Plungers-Cockroach-Insecticide-Australian/dp/B00730QW70/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?keywords=roach+gel&qid=1661960239&sr=8-5
I live in Atlanta, GA, so I still have the occasional American cockroach just due to the climate, but after applying I went from finding the Germans day and night to maybe 1-2 every few months and when I do I reapply and find their bodies shortly thereafter.
as well as these. honestly don’t know how well these worked. never remembered to look to see if any roaches were at it. in the trash can outside i know they ate it though. we moved into a really nice trailer. found out there were roaches 3 days after move in day. landlords were shitty af. there was also mold they knew about and said nothing knowing i was in and out of the hospital already with PE. ANYWAY.
This is advion cockroach, it is the same for ants? https://www.amazon.com/advion-Plungers-Cockroach-Insecticide-Australian/dp/B00730QW70/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?crid=1I1SU22PF3B9H&keywords=advion&qid=1661656148&sprefix=advion%2Caps%2C150&sr=8-4
Any recommendations for other baiting for ants?
Also how long till I should wipe it off/remove, and do I apply on baseboard if I see ants near floors?
This cockroach bait is crack for roaches. You can put small dabs of it out and within a day or so they will come out of their nests dying and drop dead. They take the bait back to their nests. I used to put small cuts of painters tape up and then put the bait on that so I can easily take it down and throw away once the dabs dry out. It's consistency is putty like and will sit on vertical spaces. I would make sure children or pets can't reach it. It's pretty amazing stuff that is gold to realtors/property managers.
This was the only thing has worked for me in multiple settings. I've had both a car and a new apartment be completely roach free within a week of usage. A handful of friends have used it per my recommendation and all have had equal, quick success.
I hope it helps!
Use Advion baited insecticide gels. Here's a link though you should check if this is the right version for what bugs you have.
Don't bother with any natural nonsense.
Haven’t seen this yet - this works and kills german roaches and will stop infestation. All the home remedy’s mentioned won’t work.
Advion German Cockroach Control: It’s a bit pricey but it will work - I Guarantee It…
This is the stuff you want to get rid of cockroaches. It works great. Will 100% clear them out of stand alone building you control as long as you don’t keep piles of trash lying around. But if you live in a rowhome you really need your neighbors to be on board to actually get rid of them for good. If your neighbors are bad enough you are always going to be fighting them.
I've had to unfortunately have some family move in due to choices they made themselves, and they brought roaches with them.
I bought this product from Amazon, almost all of them were dead overnight. I used their ant product to kill 3 colonies of ants that were invading my home when we moved in, literally the same outcome.
Get this stuff right here.
Use pea size amounts behind all appliances, behind light switches and outlet covers, under all cabinets anywhere pets and kids can’t get to it.
They will take it back to the nest and kill them all it also has birth control in it which stops them from being able to breed. This Advion Roach Gel is a miracle worker
I learned about this stuff on reddit, where it got rave reviews (also raves on Amazon). I don't need it, but am keeping it in mind if I ever do.
There is a brand of roach killer that you can find on Amazon called Advion.
You will wake up the next few days and find dead roaches all over your house to the point you’ll get tired of cleaning them up but afterwards you probably won’t see anymore.
Recommended to a couple people after research and it worked great.
Similar thing happened at my previous apartment. People downstairs were not hoarders, but had just abandoned the place with food there. Not sure how long they had been gone by the time we first saw a roach.
This stuff saved us. Turns out roaches eat their dead, and this stuff will kill one, then kill the one that eats him, and then kill the one that eats that guy. Fortunately we caught it early.
Same thing happened to me. Brand new car and started seeing roaches all the time within a few months. I used this stuff in my car and home and haven't seen roaches since.
I absolutely swear by this stuff. We had roaches at one point in our home. We bought this add used it once. I have not seen another one since. Mind you it wasn't a bad problem, but still. advion 383920 4 Tubes and 4 Plungers Cockroach German Roach Pest Control Inse, Brown https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00730QW70/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_979FQP8DR76V4AR8WCDF?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Find the water and dry it up / stop the source. Find the food source and clean it up as well. Spread some DE. Caulk up any cracks to outside. Move trash and any other rotting organic material (even old mulch) away from your house. These seem to work well: advion 383920 4 Tubes and 4 Plungers Cockroach German Roach Pest Control Inse, Brown https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00730QW70/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_Z5TKEDPQ0TKFDDY7XSVQ
There’s some paste stuff you can order that comes in a caulking gun kind of thing, it kills a bunch of roaches then they start cannibalizing each other till the whole infestation dies within a couple days. Bottles of raid or whatever aren’t going to do the trick, but I swear by this pastey stuff. Edit: I think I found it, it was years ago but I think this is it. advion 383920 4 Tubes and 4 Plungers Cockroach German Roach Pest Control Inse, Brown https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00730QW70/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_878PFPV3WTZQFS497WG6
Weekly pest control? Sounds like the exterminator is more interested in your subscription than getting rid of the problem.
Order a roach gel bait colony killer like this stuff https://www.amazon.com/advion-Plungers-Cockroach-Insecticide-Australian/dp/B00730QW70/ You can't buy the good stuff like this at any of the local stores.
Put it all around inside your unit and outside the whole building. I successfully treated my neighbor's cockroach problem that way.
Buy this shit asap and put it everywhere. See YouTube for tutorial on how to apply
This is the best stuff I have found to kill roaches:
advion 383920 4 Tubes and 4 Plungers Cockroach German Roach Pest Control Inse, Brown
I have used it in two different homes we moved into. As far as the coffee maker, I'd just buy a new one or clean it a few times by running white distilled vinegar through it then water.
There’s a product on Amazon thats a paste and comes in syringe. It killed my German cockroaches in a matter of days. Expensive but cheaper than an exterminator and I still have 3 syringes left if they come back.
advion 383920 4 Tubes and 4 Plungers Cockroach German Roach Pest Control Inse, Brown https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00730QW70/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_W8M00C3VY62YPN5XH8WA?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
thats a damn roach this the third time im posting this bc yall dont seem to know what roaches look like lmao but here buddy get this shit 100% promise they all gonna die, put it all around every corner and appliance/door you see. goodluck!
the only thing that ever worked for my pops was this gel i got him put this in every corner and around any appliance/door u can think of
I had some in an apartment and this stuff worked extremely well. I would wake up with tens of dead ones daily in my bathroom and it seemed to keep them at bay.
advion 383920 4 Tubes and 4 Plungers Cockroach German Roach Pest Control Inse, Brown https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00730QW70/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_NJ68617K11HARV8X5R3C
Look into Advion Cockroach gel bait. Can be found on Amazon here
This stuff works like a charm. It attacks their nervous system and makes them act weird. You'll find them doing figure eights on the wall and stuff but it means it is working. In my experience it will stop an infestation in it's tracks.
Buy this: Advion Pest Control
Use caulk and close as many of the gaps as you can. The pest control solution above will do an incredible job cleaning up the situation, the caulk will help slow them from coming back in, in the future.
german roach is a young one when im telling u we had them for years at my pop's house, this the only thing that finally eradicated these motherfuckers
I unfortunately don’t have a long term solution for you, but this stuff has been extremely effective for me in terms of killing roaches, far more so than any of the other solutions I’ve tried. Essentially I get one every few weeks now, as opposed to a few dozen in my kitchen.
advion 383920 4 Tubes and 4 Plungers Cockroach German Roach Pest Control Inse, Brown https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00730QW70/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_KD18ESN4GAH00GQJF024
If you’re in the US this is what I used when I used to do pest control. It’s pretty good. You just have to place it in areas they’ll get to it. Keep your areas clean so they don’t have other food to eat
advion 383920 4 Tubes and 4 Plungers Cockroach German Roach Pest Control Inse, Brown https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00730QW70/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_ZTV5YKZR5X8BF2RST0PV?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 I used this for my house and it ended the roach infestation within a day, kinda pricey but if it’s worth it then why not. Boric acid with sugar can help if the roaches aren’t already immune to the boric acid which happens if it’s been used before but doesn’t hurt to try.
In general, roaches are pretty much everywhere. But, they're immediate presence can also depend on where you move and how well you keep things clean.
In all the places I've lived in, one of the first things I do is put this out - Advion Roach Gel. Once I put this out, it usually takes a few years until another sighting.
From my experience, it works really good. This past week, I noticed roaches in my car. Put this in there and the next day, I found a lot of them dead or dying on the floor, under the carpet, crawling out of the car.
This happened to me once. It was awful. I went on vacation for a week and came back to a car infested with roaches. I have no idea how it happened. I had it detailed, which helped, but diligent vacuuming, a hard and fast "no food in the car" rule, and bombing the crap out of it every few days (which I know isn't advisable) took care of it. It took about two weeks to get rid of the problem.
I'm not advocating buying this on Amazon, but this stuff is a miracle worker. You put it on pieces of cardboard or painter's tape and the roaches eat it and die. It's pretty gross to deal with the dead roaches, but it works really well.
This stuff was magic for my neighbors infestation spoiling into my backyard. You'll have to clean up the dead or dying bodies. But one roach that eats this stuff will kill up to 40 others. Roaches eat dead roaches. Amazing chain reaction of roach destruction!
There’s a very specific roach killer you should use - it works amazing. But note it’s also a bait - so don’t put it anywhere you’d actively want to see them or anywhere by food. Put it by doors, windows, and keep away from pets. This stuff works miracles. Have used it for years. The only time I see them are when it’s time to put more bait out, or they’re already dead.
advion 383920 4 Tubes and 4 Plungers Cockroach German Roach Pest Control Inse, Brown https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00730QW70/
We had a small infestation that wound up located in our kitchen, having grown up in a house that had them I wanted them nuked immediately. I used a combination of the roach hotels and Advion and they were gone inside of a month. Though it was only a small infestation that was in one location.
Same problem at my old building. It was hell and I’m still traumatized by them. It would help to get all the apartments fumigated because if not it’s just pointless. We also used a gel bait to kill them and placed little dots everywhere especially in the kitchen and under appliances and it helped a bit but not fully since everyone else had them. Here is the link to the gel we used, hopefully it can help you https://www.amazon.com/advion-Plungers-Cockroach-Insecticide-Australian/dp/B00730QW70
But yeah contacting health department or housing rights center for advice would be great. We were able to move out thankfully but still brought a few of them in our dresser and I had to use the gel to kill them and now they are all gone. Best of luck!!
You have probably already tried this but if not, the roach "pastes" that you can find helped me a few years ago when I had a terrible infestation.
There's lots of different brands and I can't seem to find the one I used, but I'm sure they are all similar chemical makeup.
This is an example: roach paste
I moved into a place with a roach infestation, and the property management company wouldn’t help. I got this stuff from Amazon advion 383920 4 Tubes and 4 Plungers Cockroach German Roach Pest Control Inse, Brown https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00730QW70/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_fabc_R2b5FbJWT0CS5 and it killed all the roaches we had. I was shocked.
Give this a shot ....
It will be hard to get rid of them if your neighbors aren't cleaning and trying to get rid of them as well. If you use this, caulk and seal anywhere you can you have a good chance.
Hey man, when it came to German roaches i found that this is the best stuff there is.
advion 383920 4 Tubes and 4 Plungers Cockroach German Roach Pest Control Inse, Brown https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00730QW70/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabc_RTNXFbJS5FMCX?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Any big city with older buildings are likely to have a roach issue. However, there is one product that does wonders to kill roaches in your house.
For any of you with a roach issue now or in your future apartment, pick up some Advion roach gel off amazon. This gel is what professional exterminators use (you can't even buy it over the counter in Canada). It is very effective and after a few weeks will kill off all of them pretty much guaranteed. Read the 14k+ reviews which will all say the same thing on all the pest control forums. Downside: not cheap at $30 but it lasts a while.
Try this stuff, apply it monthly in kitchen, bathroom, etc: advion 383920 4 Tubes and 4 Plungers Cockroach German Roach Pest Control Inse, Brown https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00730QW70/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_6w0GFbNM1J36S
I lived in a basement apartment in DC and this was the only thing worked.
At the recc'd of another redditor I got this product to help now that I'm not having my building do their monthly extermination due to COVID. I mostly deal with German cockroaches which seems to be worse than I've ever experienced in all the years I've lived in my apt. The gel definitely helped decrease cockroaches and I've found a lot dead cockroaches including the huge 2-3" palmetto bugs.
Someone mentioned Advion and I can second that.
As far as 'normal' goes, we get a big American roach maybe once a month or so, but Germans are not okay and should not be tolerated at all.
A spider outside is no big deal. The roaches need dealt with. You should let them know about that right away so they can get on top of it.
It shouldn’t be your responsibility but if you do decide to deal with it yourself then I recommend this stuff:
advion 383920 4 Tubes and 4 Plungers Cockroach German Roach Pest Control Inse, Brown https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00730QW70/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_WqQwFbVT1DMDR
Having lived in a dc basement for many years and seen enough of those MFers I can suggest this product as a first line of defense:
advion 383920 4 Tubes and 4 Plungers Cockroach German Roach Pest Control Inse, Brown https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00730QW70/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_Cp7tFbXV4Z0XP
I put it down monthly and never saw them again. If I forgot, then Id see them in a month or two.
I didn’t look at the pic though so it could be something different. Never want to see one again...
It is not cheap but this is the stuff professionals use for roaches and it absolutely works:
The reviews and youtube videos on this stuff speak for themselves.
For bugs order Advio from Amazon it works.
Then get the Gentrol to cripple the bugs from replicating. It's expensive but it works. Seal all cracks and fill holes if you can. Stop all leaks of water. Here's the link to the pest control
Agree. Best stuff this advion roach gel. Lived in the project.... so much roaches. Killed it within a week . You can get it on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/advion-Plungers-Cockroach-Insecticide-Australian/dp/B00730QW70/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=advion+roach+gel&qid=1601295859&sr=8-3
I empathise--ive lived in many shite apartments with them. And bedbugs. For roaches, dont waste your time with stuff you can buy local. On Amazon, some sellers will sell syringes of the past control's proprietary mix, and it works wonders. I've used this one for bad infestations, coupled with Borax: https://www.amazon.com/advion-Plungers-Cockroach-Insecticide-Australian/dp/B00730QW70/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=roach+treatment&qid=1587105864&sr=8-3
No food anywhere, keep cereals in airtight containers, take out rubbish daily. If they continue due to be a problem, you'll need to move as they are likely coming in from a neighbour's unit.
I hope it works out. Also, I love Oregon. Oregon residents are amongst the nicest Americans I've ever met. Best, most polite drivers, too. Sorry Denvet isn't treating you right. Some people here are entitled assholes.
advion 383920 4 Tubes and 4 Plungers Cockroach German Roach Pest Control Inse, Brown https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00730QW70/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_W-RIEbVM7KWBN
This stuff is made by Dupont. You must put on your warface, because this is war. Sounds like you also need a growth regulator which they also make. Spend the money. This stuff is excellent. I had neighbors above who hoarded out their whole place, suddenly, babies, juveniles...I didn't wait to see the big ones. While I waited for Advion to arrive, I armed myself with bleachwater spray and paper towels to spray and kill the littles. Read all the comments on Amazon about this stuff. Follow directions, set your perimeter. Eternal vigilance wins the day. Good luck!
Not a landlord but I had an infestation when a nearby house was demolished.
It's awful and creepy and gross. I'm so sorry.
This is what i used:
Advion roach bait gel everywhere.(keep away from pets - just put it in weird places pets dont go/cant' get to)Tip: Put dots on top of painters tape bc its hard to get off the walls$40(i have a ref # below, just search on amazon if you hate crap like that)https://www.amazon.com/advion-Plungers-Cockroach-Insecticide-Australian/dp/B00730QW70/ref=sr_1_3?crid=GONLARZ3FFB8&keywords=advion+roach+bait+gel&qid=1564993523&s=lawn-garden&sprefix=advion+roach%2Clawngarden%2C129&sr=1-3
You can also spray the whole house with insect growth regulator (IGR) which stops insects who touch it from reproducing. Try to only use in the house bc outside bugs we need. Its generally $15 on amazon
Hope that helps!
Try advion. That stuff is roach killing magic. https://www.amazon.com/advion-Plungers-Cockroach-Insecticide-Australian/dp/B00730QW70/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?keywords=advion&qid=1564814580&s=gateway&sr=8-2
>advion 383920 4 Tubes and 4 Plungers Cockroach German Roach Pest Control Inse, Brown
I second this. This stuff is amazing.
Seconding Advion as well, worked great!
Oh yea, that. My friend always called it AvidOne.
This stuff works really well.
This is what you need: advion 383920 4 Tubes and 4 Plungers Cockroach German Roach Pest Control Inse, Brown https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00730QW70/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_8G9N0J7D3T6MBJRBTM62?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
This stuff was worth its weight in gold for indoor cockroach control:
best treatment IMO is something like boric acid or advion, where it takes out the nest. Versus sticky traps that just treat the symptom.
Note the recent amazon reviews are 1 stars, so the product in the link might be a knockoff. The real stuff works.... at least 6 months, probably a lot longer. I live in a condo which tend to be infested because they travel through the pipes and cracks between neighboring units.
This is the way...
Blatella Germanica, aka the German cockroach. Now these have become quite notorious in the pest world as being some of the fastest adapting and reproducing species... But! Not to worry! An exterminator will charge you $75 for a perimeter spray, which is about as effective as spraying raid like lysol and it will not contact kill or kill the colony. A relatively new product that has worked wonders for many people due to its highly attractive bait matrix and domino like effect on roaches who feed on the dead roaches is Syngenta’s Advion.
My grandmother has used it before but for an Oriental roach problem and it got rid of all of them and they stayed gone, its also rated for german roaches.
This video tells you how to use this product for German roaches. Hope this helps! :)
this really really helped me
just put little beads in the joints of walls/floors/counters/cabinets every 3 months
advion 383920 4 Tubes and 4... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00730QW70?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
For getting rid of the infestation at hand, a combination of gel, and an Insect growth regulator
If you have trouble getting the infestation cleared, definitely contact J&J, they're much better than orkin.
After you that, you can DIY pest control using this for 3 months then this for 3 months. And alternate. This video will show you how to use them. They're similar chemicals, you just need to rotate them out every few months so the bugs don't get a resistance.
It's a bait gel that causes a roach apocalypse. Like, actually. link

This stuff works wonders
My friend and I swear by this stuff: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00730QW70/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
He had a roach infestation and this helped clear it up. He put it down in my apartment when I moved in and I haven't seen anything in the 6+ months since.
Another vote for Advion Gel. Works really well. They make a gel and also baits you leave around.
You could try the gel on the back of some wall plates (so they can get to it from inside the walls). Then the baits could go around various parts of the rooms.
If you don't have pets, use this
If you do have pets, put it in places they can't reach.
All you need is this shit. My building had a crazy German cockroach infestation and I applied this crap in about 20 or so random spots in my apartment where I was seeing them. They were all gone within three weeks.
Have you tried this https://www.amazon.com/advion-Plungers-Cockroach-Insecticide-Australian/dp/B00730QW70/
This stuff works wonders https://www.amazon.com/advion-Plungers-Cockroach-Insecticide-Australian/dp/B00730QW70/ref=sr_1_12?crid=2Z30X26GM0EJ8&keywords=roach&qid=1645812521&sprefix=roach%2Caps%2C124&sr=8-12
When I was in an apartment, there's no way to keep your neighbors clean, but they gobbled this stuff up and after about a week I never saw any again for the rest of the year I lived there.
I recommend Advion gel:

If there are any animals, just be conscious.
das a roach g get this shit
I've used this stuff before:
Its probably the only thing I've ever used that decimated roaches and I would say I had a similar infestation level as you did.
1 Get sticky traps and set them up along the baseboards underneath cabinets throughout your house wait a day or two check the traps traps that have roaches are in locations where the roaches traffic.
Barriers. Make sure that the entrance is into your home are all plugged go to the hardware store get roach spray and spray door jambs attic accesses basement accesses to create a barrier to movement.
Also outside clear all brush dead leaves away from the outside of your property where at all possible. Remove old cardboard and make sure that location is kept clean. In your kitchen use containers where possible and double bag everything else. Boric acid underneath drawers and kick plates.
Get roach bait That has delayed action. The newer gel Baits work really well. It has delayed action so that cockroaches eat it and die and other locations where cockroaches then feed on the carcasses. You want to use bait where you don't spray poison and your sticky traps show activity. https://www.amazon.com/advion-Plungers-Cockroach-Insecticide-Australian/dp/B00730QW70
4 Get yourself some IGR growth regulator products. IGRs either block the insect’s ability to turn into an adult or cause it to change into an adult before it is physically able to reproduce. This controls the next generation. You want to use these where you don't spray poison.

Get some Advion.
in the meantime, get this shit advion 383920 4 Tubes and 4 Plungers Cockroach German Roach Pest Control Inse, Brown https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00730QW70/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_66ADJ8YH07KF08BACA7G
This the good stuff.
Advion, for example.
If that does work or if you want to double fist methods, I swear by this stuff:
This plus birth control is the best combo I have ever used. I cannot believe all the money that was waisted on Raid. I used this combo once and have never had to use them again. Best money I have ever spent.
My niece had a bad infestation last year, they were EVERYWHERE in her house. I bought this for her and she put it out as per instructions and she hasn't seen them since. Some tips: do not kill dying roaches you see, and don't get rid of the bodies of dead roaches you see, the reason: the living roaches will eat the dead ones and the poison in the dead ones kills the ones that eat their bodies. Dying roaches you see will make their way back to the nest and die there and the living roaches will eat them and in turn die. After about 2 weeks of putting this stuff down, all roaches will be dead then you can clean up the aftermath.
This is the stuff that I use, and it has never failed me.
yes it's normal in many (not all) condos in hawaii. the problem is that if your condo is infested, it doesn't matter how many you kill, they're coming in from pipes, gaps in wall, etc from your neighbors. If your condo doesn't regularly treat, you'll have a problem. If there's trash left out onbalconies for pick up you'll have a problem.
My suggestion for you if youre renting, and not going to be doing improvements such as caulking up cracks in the walls, fixtures, etc. is to start treating with a commercial roach treatment such as advion. It's stronger than your retailer roach killer, and keeps killing for months because the product stays active for a long period of time, and roaches bring it back to the nest where it will continuously kill roaches and baby roaches.
this is what you need^
They get mobile in the summer and will travel into your home. This is the most important time to keep a handle on them, you'll see giant watering style roaches and teeny German cockroaches in Houston.
Germans are the bigger concern, they're the sort that likes to infest homes and when an infestation gets going it can be tough, if you're infested you'll see tens or hundreds scatter when you turn on the kitchen lights at night.
If you just see one or two on wet objects occasionally they're probably traveling. Best to use some sort of bait poison in my opinion. I swear by advion cockroach bait which I buy in syringes from Amazon.
It's peanut butter looking gel you lay out near cracks and crevices, along baseboards, backs of cabinets, between the stove and the wall, behind the fridge, countertops on slips of thin cardboard. They'll eat and carry it in and on their bodies back to their nests, where they die. Then their cannibal brethren will eat them, and die. Makes for a very effective treatment, I've used it to help friends fix up terrible German roach infestations in a week or two.
The waterbug varieties die to it too, but they're not so much indoor dwelling roaches so they rarely infest clean appearing homes.
Mostly harmless to animals, active ingredient is indoxacarb which is used in some flea drops.
It used to be about $25 with prime shipping from Amazon but it seems that's not the case at the moment. This was the best I could find.
advion 4 Tubes and 4 Plungers Cockroach German Roach Pest Control Insecticide Bait Gel, Kill German, American, Australian, Smoky, Brown https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00730QW70/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_prdsDbEHJXGCS
Invict Gold seems similar, imidacloprid is its main ingredient, same as advantage II flea drops for animals, and at $25 on amazon not bad.
Rockwell Labs - Invict Gold - Cockroach Gel - 4 Tubes https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0049I6CT2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_HldsDbDGN91FC
Note on animal toxicity, these chemicals are safe because they're being spread at low concentrations in small areas, not broadly and widely like with sprays. If your animals seek and consume the roach bait that will not only increase the dose but reduce the effectiveness of your bait. I've never had issues with my cats being interested, but maybe a dog would. Just keep the bait out of reach of them as best you can,
It's a toss up on responsibility..
"The implied warranty of habitability means that landlords must maintain livable conditions in a rental property. A pest infestation is one of those things that will jeopardize that condition. So for the most part, it's up to the landlord to arrange and pay for pest control."
"Pest control falls under the general responsibility of both tenants and landlords to maintain the premises in a state of reasonable repair, safety and cleanliness."
But that aside, self treating I can't recommend any brands but I would caution against glue traps. Largely they end up being a waste of money and if you forget about one, they then become a food source as dust settles and the sticky portion no longer works. If you do use them, try to use a sharpie to number and date them. You know you set 10 on this date so if a month later you come up 1 short you know you missed one. They also have a habit of catching non insects like mice which either starve to death slowly or end up with broken bones or torn skin if you try to remove them yourself.
A quick search I found this helpful video.
$30.76 for 4 tubes on Amazon.
I had a roach problem recently, would see at least two a night scurry across the floor. Did some googling and folks swear by Avion roach gel. So I bought some on Amazon:
Just put a tiny dollop on the baseboard or in a crack around the walls all around the house. It solved my roach problem within a day. I have seen maybe two since, and they are always spazzing out on their way to death, poisoned by the bait. Very satisfied with this stuff.
I bought this from Amazon (Advion) and it helped with my roach problem. Roaches were gone within 3 days and never returned. http://advion 383920 4 Tubes and 4 Plungers Cockroach German Roach Pest Control Inse, Brown https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00730QW70/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_CauaEb7SN77Y1)
I know everyone is saying put your rent in escrow and contact landlord but if he's not proactive... you need to be doing something ASAP as well as getting in touch with your neighbors. German roaches do not fuck around and the situation is likely already way out of hand from the amount you're describing seeing. If moving is not an option, you need to act now. If you do move, be very careful you're not bringing them with you.
Do a huge deep clean of the kitchen, pull everything out from the walls. Bleach that shit. Get all food in airtight containers and if you can, don't cook in the kitchen for a while. I know it sucks. Take your trash out every night. Sweep, mop. Leave the sink bone dry. They like food but they NEED water.
After your deep clean is done, you hit them with some borax. It's cheap and can be found at home depot or the like. Sprinkle that shit all over, a light dusting. If they see clumps they'll just avoid it. (keep away from kids/pets and don't inhale much yourself). I've read differing things on the safety of borax so keep away from pets just to be safe.
You will need a multi-pronged approach. Advion is highly highly effective and recommend by people who know their shit. Dot it around everywhere in your kitchen, places where you've seen the roaches. again out of reach of pets or children. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00730QW70/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Next use some IGR (insect growth regulator) this prevents the babies from maturing and having more DEVIL BABIES. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002PE9P0K/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
other optional shit: glue traps to monitor the situation and see how many you're dealing with. With the stuff I mentioned above, you won't want to kill them all on sight, you'll want them to eat the poison and take it back to the nest so the others will eat the poisoned dead body and DIE. *METAL MUSIC PLAYS IN BACKGROUND*
KEEP TREATING even after you don't see them anymore. And hopefully by this time your whole building will have been professionally treated by an exterminator. If you only do your unit, they'll simply move into another unit and then come back for you eventually.
Godspeed my friend.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00730QW70/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_image?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Follow the directions. Worked for me.
It's called Advion I believe.
This stuff worked pretty good for us:
That shit is roach holocaust in a tube.
I saved this link last time and people seem to like Advion. Careful though, you may get a fake/expired from Amazon.
I just moved here in June and I had a definite infestation in the townhouse I am renting, obviously the previous tenants were not concerned and let it get bad. A friend in the area gave me the 'it's the south, get used to it' answer but I definitely had more than the occasional big guys wandering in, so I wasn't okay with that answer. If they are medium-ish I would personally treat inside. It definitely sounds like my situation was a lot worse than yours, so perhaps this is overkill, but this is what I did:
You can buy and use the combat traps, adivon and gentrol without breaking your building's 'don't spray' policy, so that's a plus. I also bought diatomaceous earth and borax but I recommend the top three products above anything else based on my own experience. It's admirable to try to take the natural route, but I don't think it's as effective. I've had smaller infestations (once due to disgusting roommates and once just due to weather) in other areas and have treated those with only Combat or only Adivon.
If I had to go with just one product above, I'd go with the Adivon. If you want something immediate while waiting for an online order of the Adivon, pick up some combat traps from literally anywhere (walgreens, target, lowes, etc) and that will get you started.
Another thing to do is if it looks like they may be coming from behind appliances, pull those out and clean behind them.
I know it can be tempting to just move but if it makes you feel any better, it sounds like what I was dealing with was much much worse than what you are seeing and I now haven't seen a roach in about 3 weeks. It took about 2-3 weeks for the treatment(s) to work because they will keep hatching for that period of time.
I found gel baits extremely effective.
Japanese roach traps imho never work and they can suck my balls.
If I were in that situation, I'd want to try something to decrease the population, so I'd get cockroach baits/gels. Something like this. https://www.amazon.com/advion-Plungers-Cockroach-Insecticide-Australian/dp/B00730QW70
Welcome to Toronto! Might want to invest in a tube of this stuff.
