I broke my ankle on Saturday. I also sprained it on the opposite side and on the top of my foot. The broken side doesn't look any different than the sprained side so it would be impossible for us to know if you broke, fractured, or sprained it. My foot does look similar to yours.
That being said, I was giventhis boot and crutches. Doctor's orders were to elevate and ice at least 3 times a day until swelling goes down. Only weight bare once it's no longer painful, and use crutches for 4 weeks and boot for 6 weeks.
I have a grade 4a stress reaction in my lower tibia, they put me in a full length boot to wear while walking around. this is the boot they recommended Amazon link for boot
Sorry for delayed reply! I have broken a few bones as has almost everyone in my family (we're pretty outdoorsy and we come from a line of farmers on one side, numerous vectors for injury - plus I have some weird health issues that made me more susceptible). I ended up being less tentative with post-cast walking than I thought I would be. At first, yes, but it goes away pretty quickly -- though you'll likely be a bit more conscious of where and you're walking for a while after. But as for trepidation, it was definitely something that was not as bad as I feared before it happened.
Do they have you in a walking cast/compression boot, like one of these? I got one with my break which was in a pretty much the same location/situation as yours and it got me off of the annoying and unwieldy crutches and eased me into walking. The key with them is finding a shoe for the other foot with the right heel height to keep your hips fairly even when standing in the boot (I found a 1.5-2" heel on the other foot was about right for me).
Dude, here is the boot: https://www.amazon.com/Aircast-AirSelect-Standard-Walker-Walking/dp/B00ZL32IGA/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1511565057&sr=8-2-spons&keywords=aircast&psc=1
