Going to look for it in my library, brb... Edit: confirmed and it was 1974.

• "Stole" is not the word I would use.
• It is not the "exact same thing". As the pharmacy got paid. Clear difference.
• I didn't say it was an unsustainable practice. Even if that were true, it is moot.
• "Why not do cash"? Because teachers and school faculty get paid shit for their service. So it's ok to have a teacher spend the money but not an insurance or pharmacy. I see how your argument is. Sticking up for big pharma. Yeah, not my style.
• Trust you? You "work in healthcare." - Appeal to authority. Irrelevant.
• "It is not something that should be supported because such practices negatively effect the system as a whole." As I said, the health care system is broken. Cry me a river over the loss of a few dollars to the insurance company. Does the penalty fit the crime? The super has to pay $500 for bail. Justice? No. We're on our own, those of us who earn less than the needed amount to survive with reasonable health care. So we do what we need to survive in a broken system.
• "Insurance companies should stop existing." I agree in spirit, but not in practice. Even though the US is something like 37th out of 37 countries (or something close to that) and even in single payer/universal health care countries insurance (or should I say secondary insurance) is still available as a supplement to what the government is willing to pay for. I fucking hate insurance companies. They provide virtually no value and act as a middle man between the patient and the service provider. But I don't hate them the point to say they shouldn't exist. If you worked in health care you would understand what I just said and agree.
• "we have to be stewards of that system to ensure it works sustainably." No. When it is broken, when push comes to shove, we do what we need to in order to survive. Kind of like cannibalism when the airplane goes down in the Andes.
