Yeah there’s a lot more animal activity at night so even when the trail is obvious and clear, night hiking is a niche thing that few people do.
Yes, backpacking trips are generally hike during the day then make camp to sleep at night. So you’re in the right place for that!
This is the book I got https://www.amazon.com/Allen-Mikes-Really-Cool-Backpackin/dp/1560449128 there’s lots of blogs and YouTube etc about backpacking I just thought I’d share a book where there’s lots of info in one place :)
This is a great place to start.
Kind of silly, but I LOVE this book! I found it at a yard sale years ago and have ordered it as a gift on several occasions.
This is what bothers me the most. Zero business camping if you can't even handle the basics.

Written in a playful tone, but there is a ton of useful information, with good illustrations as well.

I used to have a few of these books, but they've all been borrowed and not returned. Most of the info I already knew, but I find them enjoyable to read.

Lighten Up!: A Complete Handbook For Light And Ultralight Backpacking
Plus my Seinfeld book that I always bring, although I'm getting tired of reading it. And anything by Andy Mcnab.
