I searched the questions, and a few people had it for velosters. 1 person had pictures. I ordered it as its only 60 bucks. So it's a low risk high reward situation. Hope this helps....
I drove a good 1,000 miles with a hardtail mtb on a trunk rack on the back of my Matrix. I stopped to re-tighten it once for piece of mind. Zero problems. I had the 2-bike version of this guy. Any bike with a straight top tube should be fine. Use small bungee cords to secure the wheel to the downtube and the cranks in place for the drive.
Your next option is a hitch rack. Expect about $200 for the install (if you aren't doing to DIY that) and another few hundred for the rack.
I only know because I bought the same rack a few years back for $35. Seems it's gone up to $40 on amazon now, but still doesn't touch the $100 this guy wants for it.
I think it's the older version of the Allen Sports Ultra compact bike rack no profit link
But I bought it last summer and swear I paid less than the $56 they are asking for now. The only issue I have with it is that I haven't been able to get it to sit perfectly vertical on my car so the bike water bottle cages end up leaning against the central support. But I've driven a few hundred miles with my bikes on the car and haven't had any problems with it.
I don't know if you've got the space or care to carry the weight, but you might want to look into carrying a compact bike rack. I don't use this for hitchhiking but I have used it to carry my bike many miles on the interstate. That'd definitely open up your options if people are willing.
This is one I've had for about a year now. it's about 6-7 lbs and can fold into a backpack

This is what I have. Have taken it on a few long road trips and it's super secure.

I had a similar one when I had a sedan and it worked nicely.

I legit went with the cheapest thing I could find. When I had a hatchback, it didn't feel secure at all, but on a sedan with a real trunk, I love this thing. No lock. Allen Sports. And because it is a cradle-style, not a clamp, I can use it with my new carbon bike. It folds up, so I leave it in my trunk all the time.
