I’m watching these cameras to see what kind of integrations it’ll support beyond alexa such as IFTTT or if alarm companies like /r/Abode will be able to integrate.
If the quality of the camera is good, amazon will win this space easily over Nest/Google since amazon will hammer on price and can run cloud infrastructure on it reliably.
Eg. If you buy 3 you save $70 right now. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01C4UY0JK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_6Xs8zb33CGHR8
Get this amazon branded security camera; it records any movement and notifies you real-time while movement occurs. Even if they were to steal your camera, footage is automatically uploaded to the cloud immediately. There are no required monthly fees.

I use an Amazon Cloud Cam! I got it for 50% off on prime day, but it's kinda pricey otherwise. It's great because you can watch live on your phone or computer, and records clips when motion is detected. Even without paying for the monthly service, the free tier saves clips for 24 hours (so I just download anything worthwhile).
Sorry about your bike, what area of SaMo did this happen in? I have the Amazon Cloud Cam and it's great, no montly plan is needed, though there are plans available with more features than the basic. It has 2 way audio, nightvision, among other things

Price wise, they sell for $120 each and If you buy 3 you save $70 bringing them down to $96 each. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01C4UY0JK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_6Xs8zb33CGHR8

They have been discontinued, but there is no end-of-life announcement. They are very reliable and include 24 hours of recording for free.

I'm not sure why it's currently unavailable. If you have an Amazon physical store near you, they might have in stock or know why it's not available.
Here’s the camera on amazon. I haven’t noticed any blinking and the only “light” I’ve noticed is little red dots for the night mode.
hm... yeah. The problem with these offbrand cameras is they all seem fishy. It only sells on Amazon, no physical address on their support site, no indication they do firmware updates. I bet if you hunted around you'd see other "brands" with the exact same look and software but different logos. I tend to avoid smart home equipment that is not made by your Samsungs, Linksys/Cisco, or other bigger names. Looking into the manufacturer's website and seeing if it has the support I'd expect to find is an easy indicator. You could run nmap to scan for open ports, try to monitor its network traffic, lock down any port forwarding settings it might have, but I'm guessing the configurations it does have, but this is one of those products a security researcher would buy to pick at to see what all is weak about it.
My first thought is a company like Axis, or even a Nest, Samsung, Philips, Motorola, Arlo, Amazon.... but it's not gonna be a $50 camera. Especially if they provide some sort of remotely accessible infrastructure/mobile app thingy that actually has ongoing support.
Some might be internal-network only cameras that would then need a VPN. Others at least say they do firmware updates (manually or automatically) and all of them look like they have physical mailing addresses and are incorporated or something so you know who to blame.
These Chinese companies are lingering in Amazon, Kickstarter, Indiegogo and the like and a reason for concern. This is why I'm ok with Trump going off on how they invade our markets unregulated.
This seems like an inefficient and wasteful way to strain isp customer service for people who have an actual issue. If you really care that much, just get one of those internet cameras that Amazon or Google sell.

You could also get an old cellphone buy $5 of prepaid minutes for it, pull the battery out and plug it in to the charger. There are endless macro apps that can send you a text back or just one every 6 hours ect. You could probably find one that tells you if it's charging if you can't do the whole battery thing.
