I got six of these after seeing the price of a Synology Slim. I've had no issues and can recommend them. Not in stock in the UK at the moment, haven't checked elsewhere.
If you haven't already got one, you'll need an exterenal caddy to put the SSD into to clone your old HDD to start with.
Once done, its just a matter of taking the HDD out of your laptop and putting the SSD inside your laptop instead.
Your comment about the SSD not showing up is irrelavent as pretty much all cloning software will locate it as long as its plugged into a laptop using an external caddy. https://www.amazon.co.uk/AmazonBasics-SATA-Hard-Drive-Enclosure/dp/B01N5RLG2C/ref=sr\_1\_2?crid=26RB631FGJSLD&keywords=Amazon+Basics+2.5+caddy&qid=1640367739&sprefix=amazon+basics+2.5+caddy%2Caps%2C81&sr=8-2
Honestly, it's stupid easy on xbox. Get a usb 3.0 enclosure, and pop a 2.5" SSD into it. Costwise, it was 15$ more than a dedicated an internal (at the time) to pay for the enclosure.
Took me 2 mins, and I connected it to my xbox and it was ready to go. The longest step was transferring Destiny from my hard drive to the SSD.
In case anyone is curious, this was the enclosure I got. You can pretty much use any one you want, just make sure whatever you get is reliable.
I know its a long shot for security but you don't know if a nefarious actor installed anything 'not pleasant' while it was in the store. Stories abound of people "hacking" the displays in best buys and such, lol.
I'm not the best person for those kind of questions other than saying I would lean towards having a SSD as your boot drive and other drives for storage. I myself have repurposed older 2.5" laptop drives in enclosures I purchased off of amazon.
Yes, you can just put the old drive in or clone it to the new one. As long as it doesn’t blue screen upon boot you can make it work and you will just have to verify drivers and activation are good.
I would personally never do that on one of my own machines though. Here is my recommendation:
Toss the old drive into something like this
AmazonBasics 2.5-inches SATA Hard Drive Enclosure - USB 3.0 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N5RLG2C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_nEVwBbDEC0FB4
Then pull the files off that you want.
Keep it simple and just have a clean install on the new laptop and copy stuff from the user directories.
Running Samsung 850 EVO 500GB SSD + AmazonBasics USB3.0 External Enclosure
Benching up to 400 MB/s read/write via SATA III to USB3.0 external enclosure.
The external enclosure is made up of part plastic (bottom) and part aluminum (top). I just can't trust the other off-brands after reading their reviews; especially because of the generic chipset controllers that were found inside some of them. ASMedia chipset controllers are what you want. ASMedia chipset controllers are often found and used along side Intel chipsets, by the larger Motherboard manufacturers such as ASUS, MSI, Gigabyte etc.
I got the Amazon Brand. Make sure it has usb 3.0 is the most important factor. AmazonBasics 2.5-inches SATA Hard Drive Enclosure - USB 3.0 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N5RLG2C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_jRNPBb4R5M2ZN
you can buy an external hard drive enclosure and hard drive separate on amazon for a little cheaper than buying something branded as an external hard drive. I did this for my launch xbox one and it dramatically decreased load times, here's the stuff i got, there might better options now:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01DOL05OC/ref=ppx_od_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
you just put the hard drive in the enclosure (plugs right in) and then it plugs into the xbox via USB.

You need 2 sticks of DDR3-1600 or DDR3-1866 RAM, 204-pin SODIMMs.
For the SSD you'd need a 2.5" SATA SSD. The Crucial MX500 is a good choice because it has a sizable DRAM cache, meaning it will maintain speed during large file transfers and as the drive nears capacity. This is the 500GB model, the 1TB is $100.
If you want to use your current HDD as an external drive, you can get an enclosure that is compatible with 2.5" drives. Cheap enough to get. https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-2-5-inches-SATA-Drive-Enclosure/dp/B01N5RLG2C
Neither of these upgrades will significantly improve framerates but they should help with loading times or stuttering. The SSD will make the entire computer feel much snappier as it takes orders of magnitude less time to load data from the SSD compared to a regular HDD.
Your problem is the seagate drive, just buy a enclosure and some kind of SSD or HDD which is not seagate and you’ll be fine
No. And you should get something like this instead of just the adapter cable kit: https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-3-5-inches-SATA-Drive-Enclosure/dp/B01N5RLG2C
Problem solved.
Bought it for $0.01 due to the ongoing Amazon-Discover promo - https://www.amazon.com/adlp/discover1click_b
