I have some Kallax in my game room. I’m not the biggest fan of them though. The square shapes are always barely too small for what I want to put in them. Between the gaps and the dividers themselves there is a lot of dead space.
I have these https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01M0A4B9M in my basement and they work great. Don’t look as nice as the Kallax but they are a lot more functional. With the five shelf if you space them it’s a bit tall for games on each shelf. I picked up an extra shelf and made them six shelf. If you need smaller they sell those too.
You said not your forever storage. These are cheap, easy to move when that day comes. If you don’t want to use them for board games in a few years they make great general basement or garage storage.
100% this. Although you need to be careful with your aim to prevent nuking the Roomba, I would definitely use a sprayer to teach the kitties a lesson.
As far as putting a "garage" over the thing, I'd be careful as to what you use. I have a 675, and it sometimes goes stupid when it's trying to dock because of where the base is located; between the kitchen trashcan and a cabinet. When the Roomba is trying to locate the dock, it can't see the IR signal that the dock uses to guide it in, as it's blinded from the sides due to obstructions. Assuming you don't have a model with the self emptying bins, I'd buy one of those stainless steel wire kitchen racks with the narrow legs, and set the base far enough underneath it that you still have access to the dirt bin, but far enough underneath that the cats can't easily get to the top of the robot. Depending on the model of the rack, the shelves have adjustable heights, so it should be fairly straightforward. Use a bit of duct tape or double sided sticky foam tape on the bottom of the base to keep it in place on the floor, too.
TL;DR Buy this and put it over the base: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M0A4B9M/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_V54WCN2592SKQT1KEHCB?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
We have two large wire shelving units on our wall, in between them is a large storage cabinet type thing with doors that close - where I keep art/puzzle stuff “locked up”. Fabric boxes on the shelves with different toys and we rotate or bring down what she wants. Box for magnet tiles/blocks/cars etc. things like her little dollhouse and other favorite toys are on the bottom so she can play as needed. The rest of her toys are in her room. We have another cubby style storage in her room with the same - books/toys and Knick Knacks in fabric boxes. Also lucky enough that her bedroom has 2 small closets so one for clothes and the other for more toys. After reading this I have an urge to toss toys now XD

I had a similar kitchen once and elected to just not have a table in the room. Perhaps that's an option for you? We ended up getting a very large chrome shelving unit like this Amazon Basics 5-Shelf Adjustable, Heavy Duty Storage Shelving Unit (350 lbs loading capacity per shelf), Steel Organizer Wire Rack, Chrome (36L x 14W x 72H) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M0A4B9M/ref=cm_sw_r_awdo_D82QQWAB3ZWYSM0WYTC5
We moved all counter-hogging small appliances to it along with anything else we could think of. It was a rental so we coped. You may have more degrees of freedom and if you jettison the table you would have room for an island
That's perfectly understandishable. But not everything they sell is in gigantic quantities. When I buy steaks, they typically come in butchered packages of four, so I'll vacuum seal two of them and the other two are for an upcoming meal. I live in a 500 sq. ft. apartment and my kitchen is tiny. I made efficient use of my space by adding a shelving unit to one corner of my kitchen to store all the bulk items I buy.
I do a mix of both - but I never mentioned an armoire.
I have some Kallax which annoy me in the game room. Bought them because they were the thing recommended here and everywhere. Total regret. They are so annoying to get things to fit into.
I have these in the basement, but I bought extra parts to make them six shelves. They are awesome but ugly. I don’t have to worry about weight when just dealing with games. Six shelves makes them the right height for most games. They go almost to the ceiling, but the top shelf has enough room up there for some of the bigger boxes. I don’t have to deal with Kallax Tetris every time I buy a new game. With the pace of games I buy and having three of these in the basement I’ll probably never buy storage again. Right now two of them have a ton of kids toys and garbage on them they will outgrow and there is still space there.

They are ugly so I wouldn’t put them anywhere on the main floor of my house, but an attractive shelving unit with that amount of space/flexibility would rock.
I agree. I bought Kallax on the hype. The wasted space is obnoxious. I still have them in the game room because they look ok. But the game room really only has my expensive/irreplaceable games and a selection that is currently popular with friends/family for easy access.
I got 3 of these and found an extra shelf to make them six tier and put them in the basement. They are great for that pile of “non special” games. Pretty ugly so I wouldn’t put them in my living area, but look great in a basement and the hold a ton more than the Kallax

I lay my mattress across the wire shelves like these and they raise the mattress up off the ground about an inch and keep everything nice and breazy. Zero mold and my chihuahua can jump on and off easily. It's win win
If your plants aren't too big, you might try putting them on a wire utility shelf, something like this . I have most of my plants on wire shelves like that, and in over five years not had a cat succeed at getting at my ponytail palm.
With the cardboard lids, of course there would be cutouts to allow the plants to come through.
Buy a plastic or aluminum shelf system to stack the setup. Make sure the shelfs are not solid and more like a grate.
Can't really beat a baker's rack even though it's overkill. The shelves are sturdy enough to hold supplies as well.
Looks like a common steel wire adjustable shelve. You can find them at most big box stores.
I've always used the metal garage shelving from Amazon, and it's worked great for me for smaller tanks. https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-5-Shelf-Shelving-Unit-Chrome/dp/B01M0A4B9M/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=Metal+Shelves&qid=1605566122&sr=8-3
It’s the Amazon Basics storage shelf.

I bought the shelf from Amazon Basics 5-Shelf Shelving Unit https://amazon.co.uk/dp/B01M0A4B9M/ and I have it in an alcove where it doesn't get a lot of light. I need recommendations on grow lights for this shelf.
Hi all! My laundry closet has this awful amount of dead space that I'm not sure how to best utilize. This is really my only closet space besides my clothes closet, and I'm not a big fan of piling stuff on top of the W/D units, I don't want to damage them. I can't really install shelves on the back wall because of the dryer exhaust, and I don't really want to because there's a lot of plumbing in that wall/I'm not technically supposed to install shelves in my apartment. I've been looking at shelving units like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M0A4B9M/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_WMMK7PEPXA8W8DWNWYQE?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I'd prefer the first one, as I have 3 tool boxes I also need to store (15-30lbs each, not pictured), and I know the second one wouldn't be able to hold them.
I was thinking that for the first set of shelves, I could just not install the first two shelves and set it over top of the W/D units, but can you do that? Are you able to only install the top 3 shelves on these kinds of shelving units? Thanks!
Got them from Amazon and I''m UK based. Stainless steel wire shelving unit with 5 shelves: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01M0A4B9M/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_BAZNQ4YY2ZFZM64CE83X?psc=1
I recently just took a shelf off of this shelf from amazon and just sat it on the floor to prevent this exact thing. Works great, and I get to use the majority of the shelf elsewhere

I ordered them on Amazon
AmazonBasics 5-Shelf Shelving Unit - Chrome https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M0A4B9M/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_Dj8PBbKZNNSTB
Something like this should be more than enough: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-Husky-Black-Heavy-Duty-4-Tier-Steel-Garage-Storage-Shelving-Unit-77-in-W-x-78-in-H-x-24-in-D-ERZ782478W-4/202251082
Or restaraunt style shelving like this
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M0A4B9M/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_ZKDoFbT024D3M
Both will suit your needs more than enough and there's no reason they won't last a long time.
Dimensions may not be exactly what you're looking for but those are the types I would strongly consider.
Seems like Amazon basic shelves: https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-5-Shelf-Shelving-Unit-Chrome/dp/B01M0A4B9M
