Order it from Amazon. Way cheaper. Maybe get a cable instead of an adapter. For some reason they are sometimes cheaper.
Just connect your TV to the other inputs on your graphic card. Get a Display-Port-to-HDMI cable. Then use the single HDMI port for your HP headset. That's what I had to do for my mom's computer. She only had one HDMI and three Display Ports on her RX 580.
I bought this cable from Amazon for $10.99 and it arrived in a couple days. I'm a Prime member so 2-day shipping is free.
Edit: Oops. you said 4K TV. You may have to get an active Display port adapter or cable because you're using a 4k TV. A regular display-port-to-HDMI cable, like the one I linked, will only slightly do more than 1080p .
Yeah, you might have to spend more for that. Sorry, man.
This one is good up to 1080p. If you need higher res look for a DP 1.2 to HDMI 1.3 or higher cable.
I see what your saying! Yea, they do make HDMI to Display Port cables. Here's an Amazon Basics cable. They are usually pretty reliable and on the cheaper side. I would get a cable over an adapter just because that is one less "extra" thing that could have issues down the road.
Ah, that makes this a lot easier. There are plenty of cables that do that, it's the reverse that's impossible to find (not sure why, I've never seen a proper reason, only speculation).
Here's a link to the Amazon Basics version of such a cable. There are plenty of other options if this one doesn't suit you though. :)
I had this problem recently. Picked a HDMI to Display Port cable off of Amazon. DP end into my graphics card and the HDMI end into the monitor.
Cable: AmazonBasics DisplayPort to HDMI Cable - 6 Feet https://www.amazon.com/dp/B015OW3M1W/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_4XTgBb88N47FG
Edit: included link
The weird HDMI ones are called DisplayPort. You will need to see if one of your monitors can support that or get an adapter to convert that to one of the styles the monitor does support. I'd assume HDMI is an option.
You’re so right lol, going to get some compressed air right now.
Would this cable work though?
Amazon Basics Uni-Directional DisplayPort to HDMI Display Cable 4K@30Hz - 6 Feet https://www.amazon.com/dp/B015OW3M1W/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_MJEX3AGSGXWYABD73G80
Ah! You should be able to use a display port to hdmi cable - given the images on that pc link.
Something like this: Amazon Basics DisplayPort to HDMI Cable - 1.8 m https://smile.amazon.co.uk/dp/B015OW3M1W/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_NGFQ9MWPMXG4GCXGN4MB?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
That motherboard only has DisplayPort from the motherboard.
You'll need an adapter from DP->HDMI. something like this
Think of it as direction - You got a output and a input. The output determines the start of the direction, the input the end. So you need a DP->HDMI cable. Something like this:
Or you could just get the whole cable...
HDMI to DisplayPort? They are all going to be Male to Male.
Here’s the link to a Amazon Basics HDMI to DisplayPort.
Amazon Basics Uni-Directional DisplayPort to HDMI Display Cable - 6 Feet https://www.amazon.com/dp/B015OW3M1W/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_PR08MP6WJHFVNCT10EBD?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I tried getting this one on Amazon. I have an LG monitor that can run 1440 with 144hz tried buying a cord off Amazon half HDMI other side dp so I can connect to my monitor dp port. No picture not sure what to do :(.....
https://www.amazon.ca/AmazonBasics-DisplayPort-HDMI-Cable-Feet/dp/B015OW3M1W
This cable would work Amazon
But you won't get full 4k 120hz 4:4:4 with HDR only 8 bit content as DP 1.4 won't be enough to give you 4:4:4 with HDR. If you wanted that ability you should have looked for the few cards that had more than 1 hdmi port. HDR will work but you will need to drop to 4:2:2 or 4:2:0.
typically active adapters require a power source.. whether it be plugged into a wall outlet, or a USB cable attached to the adapter to plug into a USB port on the PC for power. You can try something like this - https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-DisplayPort-HDMI-Cable-Feet/dp/B015OW3M1W
OK. The vast majority of video cards have one HDMI port and three DisplayPorts. You should try to find a video card with two HDMI ports or you'll need a DisplayPort to HDMI adapter cable.
What GPU? What adapter? Adapters and cables can be directional.
If you're connecting DP on the GPU to HDMI on the monitor, you'll need a DP to HDMI cable. Like this random example - https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-DisplayPort-HDMI-Cable-Feet/dp/B015OW3M1W
Also just to be sure, you are connecting everything from your GPU (I presume you have a discrete one for VR) and not one cable to GPU and one to mobo, or something like that.
Dispaly port, mini display port, and dvi all carry hdmi capable signals.
You're thinking about DVI switching between an analog and digital signal on the video card. Also, I'm definitely pushed my wmr headset at full res and refresh through a displayport to hdmi adapter. Also have pushed 4k60 out of a displayport to hdmi.
Male / female connector ends don't really mattter. Here is a unidirectional: https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-DisplayPort-HDMI-Cable-Feet/dp/B015OW3M1W.
Yes I realize that it says only 1080p/1200p support, but a ton of hdmi cables say that as well (plus it is completely passive).
With that said, I could just plug the cable into a display port on my graphics card.
I'll do some research on the actual form of signal carried through displayport and the conversion (if there is any) to hdmi signals.
I've been through the On Screen settings a bunch of times and can't figure out what the hell is going on. Outside of the one time that I managed to get it to show 1440 but was tiny, I attempted to plug in an HDMI to DisplayPort cable, (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015OW3M1W/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1), but I couldn't actually get anything to display on the Z38c. I didn't even think to remotely connect to my Xbox from my iPad to see if I could play with the settings until AFTER I had everything switched back.
Look into DP to HDMI cables please, perhaps something like this could work: https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-DisplayPort-HDMI-Cable-Feet/dp/B015OW3M1W?th=1
Definitely do more research on it before purchasing though, but this might actually solve your problem based on my limited 10 minute research.
> the card only has one HDMI out. Is there an adapter I can use (I've seen stuff online about active/passive adapaters and I'm not sure what I need)?
You could use an DP to HDMI cable: https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-DisplayPort-HDMI-Cable-Feet/dp/B015OW3M1W
> Secondly, I'm planning on upgrading my Processer - the information on the HP page for my pc which I bought prebuilt lists only one Processor I can upgrade to on that motherboard. Will I need to upgrade my motherboard too?
Depends on the motherboard, and if the manufacturer has a new BIOS version to support newer CPUs.
> and what is a good processor and motherboard that will last me a few years at least?
Can't say anything about Intel CPUs, but most people would currently answer this with AMD Ryzen 5 3600. A reliable and relatively cheap motherboard with enough features would be the ASrock B450m Pro4. You will also have to look if your RAM is still supported, you would need DDR4. But there is a new Ryzen series coming soon if you want to wait.
> Is it worth upgrading the GPU anyway, as the performance will still likely be better even with the bottleneck?
Had the same problem last year but did it anywas (GTX 950 -> GTX 1060 with an Athlon X4 880K). Didn't get much more FPS, but the graphis were way better.
I’ve had cables that were HDMI on one end and display port on the other for hooking an Xbox one up to a monitor a long time ago.
Something like this: https://www.amazon.ca/AmazonBasics-DisplayPort-HDMI-Cable-Feet/dp/B015OW3M1W
Never had any issues.
No you'd need an adapter or a cable like this.
Note that the cable takes a video signal from DP and turns it into HDMI. It cannot take a video signal from HDMI and turn it into DP. For your purposes this cable will work.
Instead of using a splitter try to adapt one of the display ports to hdmi. Maybe even do both that way so you know the results will be the same.
So the seller said only the display port works, and you tried to use HDMI and it didn't work, and now you're devastated?
You can get a cable for like $11 that should solve your problem...
This cable?
Because I bought the same one and the screen stays black when it's plugged in. I can't figure out why.
I've been using two of those at home for about a year now. When I updated to my 1080ti on my new build I didn't want to add cost with new monitors right away (my older Samsung monitors are DVI/HDMI only but still work great as 2nd and 3rd monitors) and the 1080 only has one HDMI out which I was using for my Vive.
There are probably even cheaper options available, but they do work well. I've never had output or ripping issues with them and everything was recognized as it should be.
Easy plug and play.
does this not allow you to connect the DP on the GPU to the HDMI on a monitor?
edit i bought this instead of a DP to HDMI adapter...and none of the 3 monitors I tried get detected with it
Which connections do you have on the graphics card? Adapters can be problematic (active vs passive etc), but if you have DisplayPort (which you likely do) then Amazon has a fantastic $11 option: https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-DisplayPort-HDMI-Cable-Feet/dp/B015OW3M1W
Alright so I think this could work, thank you for the help!
Cool thanks. So I should be able to use this to connect it to the other monitor?
Ok then...
This will occupy the DP, HDMI, and DVI-D ports of your GPU, enable full functionality of all connected devices, and cost you the least amount of effort, money, or stress.
Oh so the monitors dont accept DisplayPort or dvi at all? Ive seen a dvi to vga converter before.. not sure the exact impact on quality that might have though. I havent used vga connector in a long time.
I think you can get DisplayPort to hdmi (if you have hdmi available?)
AmazonBasics DisplayPort to HDMI Cable - 6 Feet https://www.amazon.com/dp/B015OW3M1W/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_uPYrzb7D82R9F
The cable I'm trying to use is from AmazonBasics, it's this one. I have an HDMI cord somewhere, but I need to hunt around for it...
Whilst you don't need to spend a ridiculous amount on a cable the cheap unbranded ones are often mass produced and all it takes is a little bit of a rough tug and it can mess them up. I've had no problems with the Amazon Basics DP -> HDMI cables and I abuse the hell out of it.
(That's UK, find their equivalent on your localised Amazon)
You can buy 6 foot displayport to hdmi cables from amazon for around $15 cad.
https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B015OW3M1W/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I'm using two of them for my acer monitors with a 1070 to connect to hdmi.
Be careful with terminology. You don't need a converter. You need a displayport to HDMI cable. No adapter or anything. They might use the word adapter in the description for the cable, but a converter is a different thing and usually used to go from HDMI out to DisplayPort in.

Something like this should be fine.

DP to hdmi. And i have tried all different brands and they all work good. I love amazon basic cables and their stuff.

> do need a wireless network adapter.
Choosing a wireless adapter with Linux that functions well entirely relies on driver support for the wireless chipset more than the brand or model on the box.
Atheros chipset based wireless adapters are more often than not the best option available. Locating one can be challenging but they are available. the most modern atheros wireless driver for Linux is the ath10k Linux driver. Researching this module should reveal many options.
The wireless adapters available may not all be new but there are options for wireless cards that use that driver specifically
>Do I need amd hardware?
No
>Would intel be the way to go?
That has been mine and many others experience.
As mentioned previously Ryzen cpu's having severe hardware faults that can only be fixed by replacing the cpu.
This more recent issue with Ryzen based motherboards not yet being fully supported also solidifies Intel as the best available choice between brands.
Someone I helped this past weekend couldn't get thermal management drivers for his Ryzen motherboard to function properly. While some of the challenges are entirely as a result of experience anyone with similar amounts of experience could expeirence similar results from new amd based pc hardware.
>Forgive me for my lack of understanding, but why two harddrives? What does the sata SSD drive do?
SSD hard disks use NAND flash memory instead of spinning mechanical platters to store data and ssd's as a result are quite a bit faster with data throughout and responsiveness. Latency response times are significantly lower for SSD's to respond to data read and write requests however the total available storage space is also significantly lower as a result.
With the reduced storage space having a second mechanical disk with good performance and storage space is still beneficial.
Typically if your careful about where you install software having a 512 GB ssd you should never fill it to capacity running an OS install.
>Does the motherboard support an extra harddrive?
Yes absolutely. That motherboard has support for several hard disks and dual M.2 SSD drive expansion slots. M.2 SSD disks are the newest SSD form factor and the data transfer speeds they can offer are astounding however the cost per gigabyte is also significantly more.
>I'd like to hook up some sort of webcam and microphone. Do you have any thoughts on the best way of acquiring such? I've only ever used inbuilt systems in laptops.
I have an older model Microsoft Lifecam Cinema webcam that does have a microphone and also has working native open source Linux drivers. Newer webcams may be nicer and easier to locate such as a Logitech C930 but i'm unaware if native Linux driver support is available.
>It'd be really cool to have two monitors for my computer. Woud that motherboard support such?
That Asus motherboard can run up to three monitors using different display connectors with just the onboard video provided by the Intel CPU.
The EVGA videocard supports running four displays with proper connectors. I have three monitors on my pc with an nvidia evga 1070 graphics card using displayport to HDMI adapters easily located from amazon
The monitors I use are Acer H236HL models that offer very nice slim bezels and IPS LCD panels and support HDMI connections. These monitors are an older model acer however for the cost they are a fantastic economical option of you only require 1080p resolution. Here's a couple Linus Tech Tips reviews on these monitors.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BXX0cCWWDsU
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ODGn3I9BIAo
They sell all kinds of adapters. Example below.
Idk how much this is a pc building question but I'm trying to hook a second monitor into my secondhand built PC and coming up with some issues. I've been hooking everything up with HDMIs so I initially tried running another hdmi to the computer's second hdmi port, realizing that the reason it wasn't working was because that it was connected to my non-integrated motherboard.
So the only other visual port I see right next to my working HDMI port (and so should be connected to graphics) is DisplayPort, which I haven't had experience with and none of my monitors have direct connections to. So I bought a [amazon unidirectional displayport to hdmi cable] (https://www.amazon.com/Amazon-Basics-Uni-Directional-DisplayPort-Display/dp/B015OW3M1W/ref=asc_df_B015OW3M1W/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=167146065113&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=17272319901401841230&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9019537&hvtargid=pla-276066045979&psc=1) and it came today; I hooked it from my pc to the small vizio tv I'd like to use as a second monitor. It displays "no signal".
I've tried multiple troubleshooting methods. I hooked the cable to my expensive vizta monitor instead, to see if the tv was the problem. No Signal there either. I double checked that the cable was unidirectional the correct way, and yes it was. I checked that my gpu had updated drivers in device manager; I tried connecting to the other DP port on the computer (even though that shouldn't be connected to the gpu). Both of the monitors work just fine plugged in to the hdmi. I restarted the PC; I tried pressing Ctrl+Shift+WIN+B.
I'm not sure how to check if the dp port on my pc is enabled; that's my main guess. Any additional advice would be greatly appreciated.
Connect the one to the DisplayPort using something like this? Amazon Link
You do know that cables where one end is DP and the oder is HDMI exist do you? These bad boys, alternatively I've had great success with inline adapters.
Yet another alternative is not buying TVs, monitors are just as good if not a lot better in almost every case, or buying TVs with a DP.
The desktop space has been towards DP only for the last decade.
While waiting for your answer, I am going to assume your VGA/HDMI cable is VGA into the PC and HDMI to the monitor. This wont work because you are trying to upgrade the signal. At best you might be able to downgrade the video signal, not upgrade.
However, I looked up that model of Dell, and it should have a DisplayPort on the back. https://www.hardware-corner.net/desktop-models/Dell-OptiPlex-790-USFF/
You can get this cable from Amazon that will go DP-to-HDMI. This should work to plug your PC into your TV: https://www.amazon.com/Amazon-Basics-Uni-Directional-DisplayPort-Display/dp/B015OW3M1W/
Cannot you go HDMI (from mini) to displayport on monitor?
https://www.amazon.com/Amazon-Basics-Uni-Directional-DisplayPort-Display/dp/B015OW3M1W
You can use a DP-to-HDMI adapter cable for the second monitor, thereby bypassing any need to use the motherboard's HDMI output.
doesn't need an adapter, can just get a cable like this https://www.amazon.com/Amazon-Basics-Uni-Directional-DisplayPort-Display/dp/B015OW3M1W
If your GPU has both HDMI and DisplayPort connectors, pick up a cheap DisplayPort->HDMI cable to connect a second HDMI monitor - this sort of thing: https://www.amazon.co.uk/AmazonBasics-DisplayPort-HDMI-Cable-1-8/dp/B015OW3M1W
is 10 dollars overpriced? amazon link
undoubtedly it will if purchased from "best buy". lol
This took five seconds to find:

Passive adapters work fine going from DP out to HDMI. Something like this would work great!
Just buy this. Amazon Basics Uni-Directional DisplayPort to HDMI Display Cable 4K@30Hz - 6 Feet https://www.amazon.com/dp/B015OW3M1W/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_86J6BQFB4RRXD5N05RYD?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Use your available ports, lol
IF you don't have a monitor that has DP inputs .. you can grab a DP to DVI cable .. or DP to HDMI cable ...
Like:
https://www.amazon.com/Amazon-Basics-Uni-Directional-DisplayPort-Display/dp/B015OW3M1W
I noticed that type of adapter is often problematic, I had much better luck with this type: https://www.amazon.com/Amazon-Basics-Uni-Directional-DisplayPort-Display/dp/B015OW3M1W
yep. to clarify one monitor has a regular hdmi cord the other has https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015OW3M1W/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_search\_asin\_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1.
All DP ports off of the GPU are a no go with your one DP monitor then..?
Grab a DP to HDMI cable
https://www.amazon.com/Amazon-Basics-Uni-Directional-DisplayPort-Display/dp/B015OW3M1W
if you get a signal .. then you know your DP port on your monitor is the issue
I think this should work for HDMI. https://www.amazon.in/AmazonBasics-6-Feet-DisplayPort-port-Cable/dp/B015OW3M1W/
The product that I saw had over 26,000 reviews, and it's rated as 4 stars out of 5. I saw the reviews so I believed that it will work Convertor Link
Display port / HDMI adapter cables have a set direction. They are not reversible.
eg: https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-DisplayPort-HDMI-Cable-Feet/dp/B015OW3M1W
If you have a single HDMI-only monitor you could always get an inexpensive DP to HDMI cable.
You can get Displayport to HDMI or DVI adapter to output for the other 2 screen, there is no problem with that.
Something like this would do as well
https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-DisplayPort-HDMI-Cable-Feet/dp/B015OW3M1W/
With a Displayport to HDMI cable.. They are unidirectional and can only go from DP to an HDMI monitor.
Then use a DisplayPort? Or if your TV doesn't have one, A DP to HDMI cord
Yes DisplayPort looks very similar to HDMI. You can use an cable like this.
Do you guys know if this cable would work?
https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-DisplayPort-HDMI-Cable-Feet/dp/B015OW3M1W
Not that I know of. You need both cables for both monitors to go into your GPU. Something like that should be fine:
Though I suppose you will be limited to 60hz.
This one will do fine. The switch will still only output 1080p though
In that case you'd plug the first monitor into the HDMI on the GPU. The second monitor you'd use the DisplayPort on the GPU with a DP-to-HDMI adapter (or cable like this).
A splitter won't do the trick, as it will simply duplicate the same image on both of the external monitors. You didn't provide any details on what ports your laptop and monitors have, but I assume your laptop has an HDMI port. If your monitors only have HDMI and VGA ports, you can only connect one external monitor. Plug it in, go to settings->system->display, and tell Windows to extend the desktop, not duplicate it.
If both of your monitors have DisplayPort connectors, you may be able to daisy-chain them to get them both to work as extensions of your screen (thus giving you what you want). If your laptop also has DisplayPort, follow the instructions on this page to get it to work. If you only have HDMI on your laptop, you might still be able to make it work by using an HDMI to DP cable like this one. This, of course, assumes that your laptop supports DisplayPort 1.2 MST.
It's all good, we all make typos. I knew what you meant just confirming before proceeding. Have you tried the same cable in both ports? Are you sure it's fully seated into the HDMI port?
You could reseat your GPU, it's a very simple process, if you are comfortable with that I can walk you through it. I'd like to try to get the port working, but if you'd really rather not bother with it, yes, there are other solutions. You have two HDMI ports, and what else? Most 2060's have a Type C, DVI-D, HDMI, and two Display Ports. You seem to have two HDMI ports you say, what else do you have? If you have Display ports, you can simply buy a Displayport to HDMI cable. If that isn't an option for some reason, I've heard of people using USB to HDMI adapters, although I've never tried one myself.
https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-DisplayPort-HDMI-Cable-Feet/dp/B015OW3M1W?th=1 That is a Displayport to HDMI cable from Amazon, which I've used. It's a cable, it works fine. It's also out of stock and you can only buy used, so here is Amazon's recommended cable:
Has a lot of great reviews, should work fine..it's a cable.
I'm not going to recommend any USB to HDMI Adapters because I have no idea how that technology works, I've never tested it. It could work very poorly, so be cautious.
The RTX 2060 came out in early 2019, and iirc IBuyPower PC's have a 3 year warranty. You should be well within Warranty to get your GPU replaced, because you should not have dead ports. Feel free to answer my original questions if you want to try to get the port working, or you can just contact IBuyPower and RMA it. You also have the option of ignoring it and just getting an adapter - but the problem may tu rn into something worse later on, personally I would just deal with it now if I was you.
Upgrading to 16gb of RAM would be a good move, but yeah, you should be okay to run it. To connect it to the tv get a Display Port to HDMI cable.
Just buy something like this, no need to overcomplicate it by also having an adapter in the middle of things.
Yes. It'll work just fine. Here's one that I've used. Note that they will not do from HDMI to displayport as well. They only work one way.
If by onboard, you mean the port on your motherboard, chances are your processor doesn't have integrated graphics. Your motherboard's HDMI wouldn't work in this case. Does your graphics card have Display Port? It looks like HDMI but it's a trapezoid with only one slanted side. Amazon has tons of adapters and cables for that.
Could you be a bit more clear with the last sentence please? Are you saying that the L24e-20 monitor doesn't work properly under any case or only when connected via the display port to HDMI adapter?
If your PC has a HDMI port, then to isolate these types of issues, simply test the monitors all monitors with the HDMI ports only (i.e. HDMI from PC to HDMI to monitor). If it works but doesn't work with the adapter, chances are it's the adapter.
There are direct HDMI to DisplayPort cables that you can use instead:
eBay - Gator Cable (I prefer these guys for their fast shipping)
There are many Display port to HDMI cables.
The first search on Amazon:
https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-DisplayPort-HDMI-Cable-Feet/dp/B015OW3M1W
Not sure I totally followed you...but..
Would it be easier to find a dp to hdmi cable instead? We use them at work quite often.
example: https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-DisplayPort-HDMI-Cable-Feet/dp/B015OW3M1W
I would use a displayport output to connect to the TV and Windows key + p to switch between them.
If you need it, DisplayPort to HDMI cables exist.
You should be able to use both.
You use the graphics card Displayport out to connect to your monitor.
If your monitor does not have a Displayport input, you can get a Displayport to HDMI, or Displayport to DVI cable or adapter depending on what you need.
https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-DisplayPort-HDMI-Cable-Feet/dp/B015OW3M1W

https://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-DisplayPort-DVI-Feet/dp/B004C9M7UG
So after doing some research, I figured I may be able to get it working if I use these two adapters. I'd plug the DP from Rift to the coupler and the DP from HDMI cable to the coupler and HDMI to laptop. I may try this and update if it works.
These are the cables I had in mind:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015OW3M1W/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00YFPM2CU/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?smid=A1AMUYYA3CT6HJ&psc=1
$10 is not expensive. ;) https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-DisplayPort-HDMI-Cable-Feet/dp/B015OW3M1W
I bought a few of these, I think, personally, since I have DisplayPorts but primarily use TVs, instead of computer monitors: https://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-DisplayPort-Compatible-Computers/dp/B005H3I38Q
Had an idea to use this. I'm curious if it will work.

Chromecast plugs into an HDMI, but that shouldn't be an issue. I use this cable on my home rig and at my company all the time with no issues: https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-DisplayPort-HDMI-Cable-Feet/dp/B015OW3M1W/
You'd obviously need the HDMI end to be female, but there are definitely adapters. Something like this would probably be fine: https://www.amazon.com/DisplayPort-Adapter-Converter-Gold-Plated-Compatible/dp/B017Q8ZVWK/
Base level Chromecast is $35, so you'd be under $45 for the whole set up. I doubt you'll find anything else that is significantly cheaper out there.
Here's a DP to HDMI on Amazon. -LINK-
My amazon basics adapter does.
A passive HDMI > DP cable should be able to manage this, assuming you're not trying to get more than 1080p 60Hz out of it.

Ignore that link. I totally didn't see that it only does DP > HDMI, even though that's what I specifically searched for. Let me see if I can actually find one that does that.
Edit: Okay so a bit of digging later has found me this:
Which looks to be an active HDMI > DP adaptor that requires USB power to work. It should work for what you're doing, but I'm also a bit flabbergasted that there's not more HDMI > DP, and everything seems to be DP > HDMI.
I just bought the cable, like this one

You'll need 1 HDMI male to male cable and 1 HDMI male to Display Port male cable
I don't like cats anyway...check this out Ex, a bit old but it might work - https://forums.oculus.com/vip/discussion/15644/nvidia-surround-with-rift-work-in-progress
Not sure if you remember I got AnkleBiter's Rift working with this also, but I used one of these cables -
Wasn't an affiliate link. just direct to amazon but okay :)
I see and have read the rules for familiarizing myself about the url formatting issue.
If your gpu has a displayport connection you can buy a displayport to hdmi cable from amazon for around $10

A couple that I found there:
You can get an RX 550 like this.
It's the second cheapest modern card I could find on PCPartPicker, right behind the GT 1030 DDR4.
I didn't pick the other card since it only comes with 1 x HDMI and 1 x DVI-D.
The RX 550 on the other hand comes with 1 x HDMI and 1 x DisplayPort.
You can get a simple DisplayPort to HDMI cable like this one on Amazon to be able to use the second port.
PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

And on eBay, you could get this RX 460 for <strong>$63</strong> (although this doesn't really matter to you, it's about twice as powerful as the RX 550).
It has 1 x HDMI, 1 x DisplayPort, and 1 x DVI-D.
You could use the same DisplayPort adapter that I mentioned above.
You actually go even lower in price, but I'd recommend the checking out the used market (e.g. eBay) for that.
It would be much easier to just get an adapter or alternate cable for either display. DisplayPort to HDMI adapters and cables are cheap and simple. The same applies to DVI to DVI, DVI to HDMI, DVI to VGA, and all kinds of other options.
