I love my Amazon basics monitor arm. I only have one monitor but it’s great and I think there was some belief the arm was made by ergotron but sold under the basics label. I can’t confirm that part is true but if I needed another arm I wouldn’t buy any other one.the one I own
posted this last time this was on sale but i'll repost here again.
bought 2 of these and for the sale price its fine. but ultimately if you want to buy 1 arm and be done with it. get the Amazon Prime basics one for $120. it's the same as a $300 ergotron arm and is endgame worthy in terms of arm.
the prime cable one bobs a bit and isn't as stable but you get what you pay for. I now have 2 of these arms collecting dust trying to give them away.
Amazon Basics Premium Single Monitor Stand, People say it's a rebranded ergotron LX which is a very well known high end brand. I own 2 of them, theyre very solid, easy to setup and configure. They can hold up to 11.2kg in weight.
Then all you need is a cheaper monitor arm like Amazon Basics, and you're good.
The Amazon Basics monitor arm came recommended in various discussions for my Alienware 38 inch monitor. Works great for me, you can just drag the monitor to whatever position. There is at least 7 inches of vertical adjustment for me, probably a bit more if I raised the attachment position in the mount a bit. I think it should work nicely for a 34 inch uw as well.
That's what I figured. I should have mentioned that it's fully tightened at all of the joints. I only adjust the depth (height / tilt the same) depending on what I'm doing at my PC.
Which Amazon arms do you recommend? This one looks very similar to the more expensive Ergotron arms:
it is not the exact same model but i cam highly recommend the ergotron lx series! i tried a bunch of shitty monitor arms at work but i always prefer the more expensive ergotron lx
if you are in germany/europe: they are sold a bit cheaper under the amazon basic brand:

Amazon has an Amazon Basics rebranded version of the HX for wall and desk mount. Its a fair bit cheaper, and accessories are compatible
There are black and silver models. I only have a DE link, but I am sure you can find it in the other stores: https://www.amazon.de/dp/B07QNY2G4T/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_1G7SJP8PJ9SXH7Q5CP2C
I'm... not sure to be honest. Based on your description I think you are correct, I want a HAS. But here are more details anyway:
I recall seeing a high end stand of the kind that I am looking for in a youtube video some time ago but for the life of me I can't find it. It was white, in the $300+ range and officially supported heavier screens. I could have sworn that even though it had horizontal adjustments, at the same time it kept the vertical movement linear. Does this explanation make sense? I may be imagining things of course.
Right now I have 3 x this for a 34 ultrawide and 2 x 24 but as you can imagine the height adjustment for the 34 is a bit of a pain with this kind of stand, since adjusting height makes the monitor move L/R a bit as well.
The Amazon Basics monitor arm, which I believe is just a rebranded Ergotron. Link: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07QNY2G4T/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Holds 25lbs, needed to tighten it up a bit before it would hold the monitor.
I have the Amazon basics "premium" holding my LG 38" UW perfectly, it supports up to 11.2kg https://www.amazon.co.uk/AmazonBasics-Premium-Single-Monitor-Stand/dp/B07QNY2G4T/ref=mp_s_a_1_8?dchild=1&keywords=amazon+basics+monitor+arm&qid=1596535952&sprefix=amazon+basics+monitor&sr=8-8
My suggestion would be to try it.
You already have the PB279Q anyway, a quick swap in to check if the arm holds up to it should be easy enough. If it can't handle it yeah find a different one.

It's the Amazon Basics Arm mount, which is actually just an Amazon-branded Ergotron (it even has ergotron stamped into the metal on the back of it

I have this one and I would recommend it. Easily holds mine.
This is actually a Amazon Basics monitor arm , but based on internet research, it appears to be an Ergotron branded version. Also, it seems that the only difference is the paint job (I wish the Amazon Basics version came in white!):

In support of this, every extension from Ergotron fits the Amazon Basics arm:
I don't have any comparisons, but my overall experience with this product has been very, very good!

The Amazon one is what I'm using. It's actually an Ergotron model at half the price.
Same monitor arm but different colour for $140. The black one must be low on stock. I use this one for my 38 inch ultrawide also with no issues.
Honestly, you can try kijiji as well. I got 4 of the ergotron lx monitor arms for $115 each over the pandemic. Just make sure it comes with everything.
I'm an idiot. Replied thinking you were asking me about my laser printer.
I'm using this with my Alienware AW3821DW. It's literally just an Amazon-branded Ergotron LX.

The black is out of stock, but usually gets restocked pretty often.

By the description you can only go up to 32" but as long as your monitor is within the weight limit you should be fine.
