Could just get a usb extension cable for his old webcam he doesn't use to put the cam over the castle
Yeah it's a deal because this particular item is cheaper but the AmazonBasics cable is signficantly cheaper and works just as well. I bought one to stretch my Zwave/Zigbee coordinator stick far enough to pair with certain devices across my house.
This one is 32 feet. Mouse and keyboard need very little bandwidth. You get into signal issues on long cables when dealing with VR headsets. For USB sticks and mouse keyboard etc its fine.
You can also easily return to amazon if it doesn't work. Your local tech shop might have these long cables too.
USB Over ethernet looks very promising for a lot of things but I don't know if it fits my use. To reposition my dongle in the middle of the house, if I am understand how it would work, I would need to hook it to a PC in that area. There is only one PC in the house and it is in my room in a corner of the property.
I notice there are single cables that are 32 feet with an active extension. Would something like that possibly work? I was looking at something like this.
If I misunderstood USB over Ethernet I would like to hear more.
You just need an active usb.
Active would just have a little brick on the end. [link]
For 2.0, you may not need it. Cable length without active parts can be 5 meters (16 feet).
USB card (This is the only one I've seen that is recommended. I need it because I don't have enough ports.)
