Forget about the i5 for $20 more, at $160, you can go for the Ryzen 5 2600 for a mere $6 more. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07B41WS48/
Unless you don't need a GPU at all or you do need a GPU but you just need GT 1030 level graphics, the Ryzen 5 2600 is the way to go in my opinion.
Same exact price on Amazon, would definitely rather buy it there even if it has taxes.
For you guys who prefers amazon. Ryzen 2600 for 169$
That's possible but box vs tray is common nomenclature for CPUs.
It's even included in the retail part model number.

The ryzen 5 2600 is good it's $154 on Amazon, and u can get a decent motherboard and good ram for around $350-400 AMD Ryzen 5 2600 Processor with Wraith Stealth Cooler - YD2600BBAFBOX https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07B41WS48/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_bz6iCbHYCF26S
Was looking at this proccesor. is this ok? Again how would this handle a game like rocket league. Sorry for all the questions.
Unless you're stuck to a b350 mobo that only supports 1000 series Ryzen(not even sure those exist), or need the extra cores from the 1700, I'd think that a 2600 for the same price would be better(especially for gaming).
I don't think it's particularly a deal myself.
You can snag a 2600 and a budget motherboard for around $250.
Or you can get something a little faster on the used market.
Hi wud this processor work with my motherboard
Are you buying a motherboard depending on the CPU you get? If so, then I would get a 2600 because It's 50$ less for a better performance. It's actually 40$ off right now on Amazon.
Use a Ryzen 5 2600, as it won’t come close to bottlenecking the 1050 ti. Ryzens in general have a far better value than intel cpus and are my processor of choice. You can get a 2600 after a quick search on amazon for ~150 bucks.
https://www.amazon.com/AMD-Processor-Wraith-Stealth-Cooler/dp/B07B41WS48
You can save a bit of money with a 500/512 GB SSD. Also the Ryzen 2600 is still on sale for $120 on amazon for $15 more.
Ryzen 5 2600 is on sale right now. Camelcamelcamel says it’s only $10 above its lowest price point on amazon.
Does Canada Computers have cpu + mobo combos? I only ask because the 2600 is cheaper on amazon still
> newegg price btw, 2600 on newegg is 139
Why would you buy it from newegg when it's $128 in amazon? It's been at this price for a while now https://www.amazon.com/AMD-Processor-Wraith-Stealth-Cooler/dp/B07B41WS48/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=2600&qid=1568935998&sr=8-1
Cex sell used r5 2600s for £115, you can get them brand new from Amazon for £116 as of 21st September (https://www.amazon.co.uk/AMD-Processor-Wraith-Stealth-Cooler/dp/B07B41WS48/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?keywords=ryzen+5+2600&qid=1569020632&sr=8-3) with a stock cooler, I'd strongly recommend buying from Amazon, 3rd gen ryzen has made the ryzen 5 2600 one of the best value for money processors right now
>Had some offers but none went through so dropped down a bit
Likely because it's $118 on Amazon right now? Might take more to entice people to buy from an individual since Amazon has an excellent return policy and free shipping as most people have Prime. Good luck!
Hey, just letting you know that you can currently get a brand new 2600 on amazon for less than your asking price.

Thanks for the help.
Woops! I was referring to the 2600, this one on amazon in particular
It should be listed in the offer. I just had a look on Amazon and saw that an R5 2600 is super cheap right now. That would be even better. Have a look:
> what it be suitable for with the motherboard and case and will this build be suitable for future upgrading on gpu cpu?
Yes the cooler comes with an AM4 bracket for mounting, your case has enough room for a 360mm AIO to be mounted on the top or bottom of the case, IMO I would install the AIO in the top and have it running exhaust so the heat escapes out the top of the case.
> will this build be suitable for future upgrading on gpu cpu?
Totally, but if gaming is your goal and not just a side task for this PC then I would go for this CPU https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07B41WS48?tag=pcp0f-21&linkCode=ogi&th=1&psc=1 instead of the extra cores you get a faster processor that can utilize your CPU cooler when you OC it.
its $118 on Amazon new
I did a little digging and found a AMD Ryzen 5 2600 Processor with Wraith Stealth Cooler for relatively cheap. Will it work with my current build? I put it on PC Part Picker with the 1050 Ti and it says it’s compatible. I’m just curious about the wattage and my motherboard.
The TDP is 15 more than the i3 7100. It has 6 cores
I'm wondering if I buy an AMD ryzen 5 2600 new from Amazon.com today, would I still qualify for the free game? Amazon is still saying the game comes free with purchase until 4/6/2019. https://www.amazon.com/AMD-Processor-Wraith-Stealth-Cooler/dp/B07B41WS48/ref=mp_s_a_1_1_sspa?crid=O2DSTMUDXGSC&keywords=ryzen+5+2600&qid=1553183716&s=gateway&sprefix=ryz&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1
I'm seeing the Ryzen 5 2600 for $164.99 and it's "shipped from and sold by Amazon". This is Amazon US of course. I don't see it being sold at that price from any third party seller. :D
Yea it's a tray version. You could put on an aftermarket cooler that would be quiter than the stock cooler regardless. There's also the boxed version of the 1600X I think.
Nvm the 2600 goes for quite cheap in Germany so just get this one(has a cooler already) : https://www.amazon.de/dp/B07B41WS48/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_iQ1kCbT15D60N
Ryzen 2600 for $159. Best cost/performance; you will get increasingly diminished returns for more expensive cpus/higher clock speeds with your gtx 950
I'm not sure if you can stretch it but I would highly recommend the ryzen 2600 over the 2200g, you already have the rx570 so you don't need the igpu in the 2200g and you get a much better processor.
Here's a Ryzen 5 2600 for just $150 w/ free shipping (and inc. stock cooler obv, even if the Stealth is nothing to write home about), which provides simlar perfomance (and superior IPC if you can believe it, with Zen+ edging out both Haswell-E & Broadwell-E) stock vs stock to an i7-6850K in both single & multi-threaded workloads (unless it's something extremely memory bound, that can properly take advantage of X99's quad-channel DDR4), but running cooler, quieter, more efficient, and for just 1/2 the price for a brand new chip that's on a current AND future-proof platform with great boards available for just $70ish.
AM4 has pretty much made every single pre-X299 Intel HEDT platform essentially obsolete for those that don't need it's expanded I/O & memory sub-systems (which Intel would still gimp to varying extents on all but the flagship SKU anyways), and for those people that's what AMD's X399/Threadripper platform is for (which beats X299/ Skylake-X|Cascade Lake-X across the board on both those fronts).
And if your workload priorities happen to lean towards the multi-threaded side, 1st Gen but 8c/16t R7 1700's (which will lose on ST, but dominate on MT vs an i7-6850K after both are reasonably overclocked) are a similar price new as the 2600, and w/ a bigger, better included cooler (Spire RGB vs Stealth).
Literally Intel's only remaining purchasing arguments are for those few who want the best single-threaded perfomance available, totally irregardless of cost/value (see the i9-9900K), and those unlucky few whose workload(s) leave them dependant on Thunderbolt support (which is exactly why freely licensable USB 3.1 Gen 2 [10Gb/s, aka 1.25GB/s, or equal BW to TB1] compatible devices should have been widely available like damn yesterday).
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07B41WS48/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_KoqXBbRAMD8E6
If your interested in strategy games like civ 6 you'll need more ram *16gb* would be a smart idea and if you your okay with spending $50 on a cpu the AMD Ryzen 5 2600on amazon is only $150 and comes with the cooler!
You can buy it from Amazon US for cheaper I guess? $175.88 USD shipped to Ontario(Price $149.99 + AmazonGlobal Shipping $7.37 + Estimated Import Fees Deposit $18.52), about $228 CAD.
Link: https://www.amazon.com/AMD-Processor-Wraith-Stealth-Cooler/dp/B07B41WS48/
The only thing that will really affect the FPS of a build is the GPU unless extremely bottlenecked by the CPU which anything from this generation of CPUs won't for a r9 390. So if you want more FPS I recommend getting a cheaper CPU Ryzen 2600 (https://www.amazon.com/AMD-Processor-Wraith-Stealth-Cooler/dp/B07B41WS48) and motherboard (any really, pick one in your price range) and spending the remainder upgrading your GPU. A 1070 or better should be fine for 1440p at 60 hz.
is this one from the new generation already?
is it much better than 1600?
Yeah, this looks nice. Could you recommend a motherboard that it would work with? (Sorry, the only thing I know about motherboards is that you have to match the socket type, which in this case is AM4.)
They have this on amazon for 150 as well, with prime.
thats a pretty badass bday present!
i have a genuine question tho, and not necessarily aimed at OP. Why do i see so many builds using the ryzen APU with a graphics card as well? is there a benefit to it? i understand builds that start with it and add a gpu later, but if you're buying it all at once would it not be better to grab a 2600 instead? (or a 1600 if its the R3 apu)
questions aside. congrats! im sure he'll remember building it fondly for the rest of his life.

edit: fair points all around! so if its the 2200 it makes perfect sense for best performance at price point. however if its a 2400 then you might as well have gotten a 2600 especially with them being 149 at walmart and amazon right now = https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07B41WS48/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_yW0yCbK60C89B
This builds totals up to approximately $475 before taxes and rebates. This will handle a moderate amount of AutoCAD, coding, virtualization, and rendering. The system runs on a six-core processor with SMT. The build also comes with an appropriate mid-tier GPU. It meets the 4GB VRAM requirement for the AutoCAD application as well as DX11 and DX12 support. Also, a 500GB HP NVMe SSD was also included for quick boot, load, save, and transfer times while only costing $45. The motherboard is also a great B450 motherboard, with space for possible overclocking or boosting. 16GB of RAM clocked at 3000MHz is also included for a better AutoCAD experience. The CX650W is a reputable power supply from Corsair. It is not modular, but its quality is above average for this price point. Finally, to seal everything off, the Masterbox Lite 3.1 was chosen for the case. This case has decent aesthetics and efficient airflow for a sub-$50 mATX case. Do note that this takes advantage of the Newegg Black Friday sales, so prices may change. If you need a new build list close to the date of purchase, one can be provided.
This is $100 over budget per unit, however, it gives the systems more portability. The MSI Laptop will not have the same degree of performance as the tower systems, but will still meet or exceed requirements for AutoCAD and other cyber and design related tasks.
This HP Prebuilt is the best I can come up with near $500/unit.
This is similar to the DIY build, just 8GB instead of 16GB of RAM. (You can easily find an extra 8GB stick for like $30.)
Hope everything goes well.
I would like to second some of the other people here.
Despite knowing this is the Intel subreddit, since you have to replace your motherboard anyways, you might find it worthwhile instead looking at AMD's Ryzen platform. A 2600 ($15 cheaper), 2600X (same price as the 9400f) or 3600 ($50 more) may prove a more worthwhile buy.
It would help more to know exactly what your usecase is, but, going for Ryzen should be the correct choice in the price range of that 9400f in more circumstances than the 9400f would be. Also take into account that the Ryzen CPUs are all unlocked and may be overclocked whereas only K-SKU's on Intel may be.
I hope that this gave you some more insight!

the 2600 is availible from amazon for $150:
Where are you getting the price for that ryzen 2600?
It's £125 just glancing on Amazon.
edit: its only 20 dollars more and you have that much
Go to www.pcpartpicker.com You will get an idea there. this is the one I’m gonna build keep in mind that the price is without the core processor it’s a budget which is pretty good for a starting pc and if you just want to upgrade over time. Second link is the processor in getting
Yes, I would.
The single-core performance between Ryzen and Intel Coffee Lake has become much smaller now. And that was (and still barely is) the only reason to go with Intel. Ryzen is the best thing AMD has had since they dominated with Athlon 64 way back when.
I would recommend the R5 2600X over the 2600 since it has a better stock cooler than the R5 2600. And all the Ryzen 2000 series CPUs (except the R3 2200G and R5 2400G) can automatically overclock themselves using XFR 2 and Precision Boost 2. The stronger your cooling solution, the higher the automatic overclock (the absolute highest if you're lucky is 4.4Ghz; 4.2 to 4.3Ghz is more common).
Also AMD has promised to support AM4 until 2020. Meaning you can get a Ryzen 4000 series CPU in 2020 without having to change your motherboard.
All you need is a BIOS update.
The R5 2600(X) is capable of doing high refresh rate gaming like the i7 8700K. Here's a benchmark that practically eliminates the GPU bottleneck by playing games in 720p, showing how close they are in performance.
Of course the i7 8700K is better, but the R5 2600(X) is pretty close for over $130 less.
I just realized that the R5 2600 is $170 on Amazon right now. This makes the R5 2600 about $180 cheaper than the i7 8700K right now. Almost $200 for performance for a CPU that goes toe to toe with an i7 8700K.
These are the times we live in.

Appreciate it, I'll just keep replying here if that's cool. Don't mind either way about PM but I do find lurkers might appreciate some of the advice.
I'm set on the 2600, and its now 185 on Amazon so that helps. I'm pretty set on the tomahawk Mobo 2 which I think is lowest if you have prime.
I would like to see pics of the case, I hate the one I have its so dull and bulky but not also huge fan of the "I'M A GAMER" cases, which seem overpriced regardless. One you have is nice.

If you're good with 90 FPS or less, your 1600AF is going to still be relatively good; got in an argument with a guy about bottlenecking and he was using a 2080ti and a 2600, which the 1600AF isn't far off of. He won the argument obviously since he knew the firsthand experience of everything.
And to be blunt, getting that fixed might serve you better than an graphics card upgrade. Ryzen 2600 on amazon is $134. The 3600 is $175.
Hardware swap has folks getting the 2600 for between $85 and $100.
Getting the CPU dropped in and fixed up will give you the confidence to grab that random sale of a 5600 for cheap if it comes.
I see you are shopping on tiger direct. Amazon has this item for a much lower price.

what I'm selling is this, which is $157 on amazon. that, and the fact that the ryzen 5 3600 is selling for $167 on amazon, is what i'm basing my price on.

Otherwise you gotta go with a quad core, bah!
I think that you should switch from the 230$ i5 to a £130 AMR Ryzen 5 2600 and use Gigabyte B450M DS3H as a motherboard, works well with that gpu, and the price compensates for the graphics card inflated price

Here $170, so its a decent price. Thanks!
Looks like the 2600 is in stock as well, better grab that instead of the first generation Ryzen:
And grab this motherboard as well, better support for new CPU's if you want to upgrade down the line:
Showing as in stock for me, $159.99 as of 7:58pm MST. This the price you're referring to?

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07B41WS48
I also found the 2600x for $170.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07B41WS48
I have no idea what the price you saw was. The 2600 and the 2600x are effectively the same CPU - the difference being that the 2600x has a bit more potential unlocked, whereas the 2600 would need for YOU to adjust settings to have the same potential as the 2600x.
But, for the prices above, I would opt for the 2600x. If you have any other questions, please ask.
Hope this helps!

>My main drawback is budget.
Ryzen 5 2600 at a discount right now ($49.94 off) would be best option unless you're going to decide to overclock then you could pay around 20 bucks more to get a 2600X model with overclocking feature and a better cooling.

Hey just so you know, the 2600 is only $129 new with the cooler on amazon...might want to consider lowering it a bit.

Same price on Amazon with infinitely better CS/Shipping
I don't see any comments so I'll offer my advice. Take it with a grain of salt, as I'm always browsing r/buildapcsales and definitely more of a price/performance builder.
First of all, an $800 build with a 5700 and an SFF case and PSU is unlikely. Here's my recommendations
A Ryzen 5 3600 is like double the price of a 2600 for only 15% more speed. A 2600 is already a really solid CPU for gaming. Unless he's a hardcore gamer and streamer with a hardon for ultra settings games, I'd suggest the Ryzen 5 2600 or 2600x. On Black Friday, 2600 prices will probably drop to around $90 (they've been dropping to around $100 recently). Currently on Amazon for $118.
Really good choice in LPX RAM - that specific set actually dropped to $56 the other week and will be hopefully down again on BF.
A 5700 is fine in terms of price to performance, but if you really do want to get below your budget but still want really good performance, I'd suggest jumping on this deal asap: EVGA 1660ti for $255 on sale through Best Buy (originally $320), and you can use the first time shopping code (SHOPNEW19) for $20 off your first purchase using a google account/credit card combination you haven't used before. That effectively makes the 1660ti a $230 deal, and the 5700 (usually blowers are on sale for at best $280) performs only 30% better, sure, but you're going for a budget build, and a 1660ti can already handle anything for 1080p gaming. Even if 5700 prices drop lower on Black Friday, chances are the 1660ti will still end up being on sale for a better price/performance deal. Also should be noted that 5700's that do drop below $280 are usually blowers, and these can be very, very loud. Ultimately, check out userbenchmark, sort GPUs by value, and compare to figure out what's the best fit for you.
Not a bad SSD/HDD combination, but keep your eye out on Black Friday. Chances are that 1 TB SSDs will drop below $80.
With regards to PSU, EVGA is generally a cheaper line with still very good quality SFX PSUs. Their customer support is a lot better in my experience, but others may disagree. This 450W PSU was on sale for $69 the other day. Idk if it's your first time building, but do keep in mind to not vastly overestimate the wattage PSU you need. So many people buy 650W PSUs when they really only need to use 380W, which should only warrant buying a 450 or 550W PSU. I'd recommend this wattage calculator.
Finally, if you're really trying to do a budget build, keep an eye out on r/buildapcsales. Check early and check often. There was a sale today for a super high-end 1 TB m.2 NVME SSD that was $80, but it was sold out on Amazon in under an hour. Often times, the best deals will be sold out by the time they make it to hot. r/buildapcsales and r/sffpc are the only two subreddits I ever sort by new on lol. Again, I'm not sure how experienced you are with PC building, but make sure you're buying components of the specs that you want. There are times where I've gotten over-excited and seen a $48 RAM deal, but it turned out to be only 3000 mhz instead of 3200. Then again there have also been times where I've seen RAM prices and been like "wow, that's not even that good a deal," and then realized it was $100 for 32 GB and not 16 GB.
Afterword: Keep in mind that it's probably best to wait until Black Friday if you really want to play it safe price-wise. Don't buy everything from the same place at once if you want to save money. Buy from the credible sellers with the best prices at the best times. I've been exclusively buying from links off of r/buildapcsales and ended up with a $900 SFF build capable of all the gaming I'll need to do in college. And that's after spending $220 on a sexy SM550 case.
Well, what are you working with? I mean what is the model of the computer you have now? Swaps into another case with a new PSU aren't always hard. Sometimes you can get a non standard board in an SFF, other times you can get a nice gem in the rough. The Dell Inspiron 660s comes to mind as an SFF type computer with lots of potential. I've done swaps on HP Media Center PC's as well. Gimme a better idea of what you have and let's weigh some options. If you'd like suggestions for a completely new system that won't break the bank, here's this one:

Hmmm here's what you could also consider doing. While the 2700x for that price is a really good deal - by swapping to 2600 which can be bought atm on Amazon for $115 - you would gain ~$45 that you could put into a better GPU like 1660S which is about ~10-15% faster on average than 590. My reasoning here is that if you're planning to mainly game then you very likely won't notice any significant differences between 2700x and 2600 since you will be GPU bottlenecked anyway in vast majority of cases. And if you run into some CPU bottleneck at some point in the near future - you will be able to snatch some Zen3-based Ryzen 4th gen CPU on some discount (like for example around Zen4 release somewhere in ~2021).
As for RAM, this 32GB 3000Mhz kit might be also worth considering since it's only +$10 over that 2666 one. I've got the same model/kit, but with 3200mhz. Now, getting 32GB might seem like an overkill for only gaming, but for example in my case i decided to go for 32GB kit to not be bothered by any RAM bottlenecks which i've run into several times on my previous PC with 16GB DDR3 (during video editing and playing some RAM-hungry open-world unoptimized early access games like multiplayer in 7 days to die for example). So yeah, while 16GB will be still enough for a while, getting 32GB isn't really a bad idea, especially if you want to keep that PC for as long as possible and just maybe upgrade CPU/GPU every few years. It really depends what you will be doing/playing on that PC, 16GB is still generally considered as a sweet spot.
Last option would be going for some cheaper 16GB RAM kit like this one which could save you about ~$50. Add to that the savings (~$45) of going for 2600 instead 2700x, the price of that 590 and you would end up with almost enough for an RX 5700, some of which are hovering around ~$300 price point, like this one for example, though you would probably have to additionally add about ~$20-30 more to your budget to get it. Still, with 2600+16GB+5700 you would end up with up to ~50% better gaming performance than 2700X+32GB+590, since that's the average difference between 590 and 5700 (if you look at the charts in that 1660 Super review @techspot i linked earlier) and in like ~95% of cases in gaming - GPU bottleneck is the limiting factor anyway.
Just throwing here all those options and ideas about balancing your budget and parts.
Cheers :)
Don't Rook too long, these prices might not last.

Pre-overclocked, has a better cooler (wraith spire instead of stealth), and can use PBO. If you plan on getting an aftermarket cooler and setting an all core overclock then a cheaper R5 2600 would be a better option. If the difference is like $10 then go for the 2600x.
Right now on Amazon it is $120 vs $125 so the 2600x would probably be the better choice.
You could also go with the Ryzen 5 2600 for 140: https://www.amazon.com/AMD-Processor-Wraith-Stealth-Cooler/dp/B07B41WS48/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=ryzen+3&qid=1603572484&sr=8-2
Or with the Ryzen 3 3100 for 125: https://www.amazon.com/AMD-Ryzen-3100-8-Thread-Processor/dp/B0876Y2TMZ/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=ryzen+3&qid=1603572484&sr=8-1

Anyone of those will get the job done easily as well.

Everything look okay?
Just to double check the cpu fan I have will fit correct? I know way back when there used to be different mounting brackets sizes and what not but it’s been a LONG time since I’ve upgraded a PC instead of buying a completely new system.
Thank you so much for your help, much appreciated

Blue PC:
An IRL friend who happens to be a professional streamer asked me to make a build for him. We ended up building it on stream and I instructed him step by step how to build it. It turned out to be a really fun build and we started streaming at 10pm and finishing at 8am. I reorganized his stream set up in his room and it turned out pretty cool! He had a PC that another streamer had been loaning him (a low-end ibuypower) so he had already been getting peripherals (under my advisment) such as his monitors, keyboard, and mouse over the past few months but they weren't part of the "build" he asked me to make so they're not included in this list.
Red PC:
Made for a retired older but tech savy father as a birthday gift. Budget was a little limited and I try to have all my builds be capable of 144fps at 1080p minimum. Bought a "cheap" case from a company I have bought from before, they make surprisingly good cases for the price. Did that so I could get him a decent CPU and a 1660 super. The daughter wanted it to "look cool" so I color coordinated the parts.
EDIT: Forgot that I had gotten Outemu Blue switches instead of Outemu Browns

Is that a reasonable deal for that or would it be better to wait to see if the 1600 AF, 2600, and 3600 decrease in price at all?
Some deals I spotted for people looking for budget builds.
Gigabyte B450M DS3H Drops to £62
(2x 8GB) 3200MHz DDR4 RAM Drops to £65
ASUS Radeon RX 580 Drops to £140
Add in a 2600 for £112 on Amazon and you got a nice wee start on a budget build. Fire in a cheap case, SSD, then get a decent PSU(Never skip on the PSU) and you have a full PC for just over £500
The discount is capped at £75 any one know if you cap it in one order does it remember it if you try to order more. I assume it does.
An AMD A10 or A12 would be a valide upgrade if you weren't willing to upgrade the whole board.
That being said, given it's age, upgrading the CPU is only going to last you for so long.
I'd consider purchasing a part every month until you have the makings for a new computer. Especially if you plane to get a newer CPU, Mobo, and Ram.
Ram for just 16gb of DDR4 can be as cheap as 60-odd dollars and as expensive as 200+.
CPUS range in about 100-200 for a decent non-enthusiast grade variant of some kind.
Mobos range in the 100-200 as well, if you go used you can get some into the 80-150 range though which is nice.
Spread the purchase out over a range of 4 months and it'll allow you to not lose that whole chunk of money. It'll also give you time to double check that parts are compatible.
RAM: 16gb at 3200mhz will treat you well and allow you to upgrade if you need more.
These links are only provided to give an example of what you should purchase as a direct upgrade to your newest machine in the most modern sense while still being within your budget of about 500 Euros.
Now, if you don't want to upgrade that far and instead only want to get a newer CPU without replacing the motherboard could you tell us the Motherboard model?
theres currently a price drop on amazon for the 2600
200 to 125
Free shipping as well
I just took a look at the current new prebuilt desktops on Newegg and Amazon and none of them are really worth it below the the $400 mark. The refurbished 3rd / 4th gen desktops at the $200-$300 basically blow any new prebuilt $300-$450 prebuilt computer out of the water in terms of value. Are you willing to build a computer and use either Linux or Windows 10 with a windows activation water mark (assuming you don't have a Windows 10 license / not going to simply pirate it)? The best thing I can come up with is in between the $300-$450 range is a $354 PC build not including tax. If you are willing you can build a more than decent web browsing / basic productivity machine with these parts.
AMD Ryzen 5 2600 ~$120
Asrock B450/AC Mobo ~$85
Patriot Viper Steel Series DDR4 8GB 3200MHz ~$38
Thermaltake SMART 600W 80 PLUS ~$44
Inland 120 GB SSD ~$22
Cooler Master MasterBox Q300L ~$45
Total = $354 not including tax
I chose that CPU in particular because its pretty powerful one that should be more than enough to last you way into the future, especially if you ever decide to start gaming. I chose that motherboard in particular because it was the cheapest one that has built in WIFI though at the trade off that the only built in display port type it has is HDMI, andthe fact 4 RAM slots in case you ever want to upgrade to more RAM. Generally when I build a computer I always try to get a motherboard with whatever desired modern display port that my monitors support such as Display Port, HDMI, or DVI and always get one that has VGA for trouble shooting purpose in case anything happens. Because most people usually have a monitor with a VGA port laying and most monitors usually come with a spare VGA port for backwards compatibility. I chose that particular kit of RAM because again its the cheapest set of 3200Mhz RAM from a reputable company. There are cheaper PC cases out there but I chose that one in particular because its the cheapest Micro ATX case from a reputable company with good build quality. I have built systems in a lot of different cases at various price points from different brands and in my opinion the cheap sub $40 cases from off brands or even well known companies are usually terrible. They usually have terrible quality control with either sharp edges, incorrect machining where mounting points are off alignment, or poor soldering jobs on the corner of the case that makes it impossible to put in the motherboard correct, etc... I chose a 600 watt power supply so that you have enough wattage to upgrade in the future if you ever decide to add a graphics card for gaming or other peripherals, and that particular model because its the cheapest decent one from a reputable brand. The Inland 120 GB SSD is the only part I am a bit hesitant on recommending because it is a DRAM-less SSD. Meaning it doesn't have the same write endurance as a high quality SSD with DRAM. Write endurance refers to how many times you can repeatedly delete and write data on it. Though it should be fine if you are just web browsing and typing essays. It should a more than decent budget SSD as long as you're not repeatedly writing massive amounts of data on it and then deleting it for shits and giggles. Just for reference it has endurance rating of 75 TBW, meaning you can completely fill up the 120 GB SSD and delete and rewrite data on it 625 times before you encounter any problems with the SSD. I chose it cause its one of the cheapest decent quality DRAM-less SSDs, and should be more than enough storage space for you to install your operating system and programs and probably 1-2 large games 20-60 GB games or about a dozen smaller games.
If you want to throw in a Windows 10 license that would be another ~$130. You can get a better quality SSD like a 500 GB Crucial MX500 for ~$67. If you want a 1TB SSD you can get either the Samsung 860 QVO, Intel 660p, Crucial MX500 for ~$100-$110. Or you can get a Seagate ST1000LM049 1TB HHD ~$53 for bulk storage for non-speed sensitive files like text, pictures, music, and movies.
Building your own computer is a lot of fun and it's something I enjoy.
You have brought up some good points. A lot of the time the only parts that you have to upgrade at the same time (depending on the model) are the CPU and the Motherboard because they can be manufacturer specific. You generally do not need to swap out anything when you upgrade the RAM, the storage, or the graphics card.
So, just as an example, let's assume you wanted to do the easiest thing and add everything to the cart and just buy from Amazon. This build would cost about $550 to $570 and you wouldn't need to upgrade for a few more years that is also a lot better than the one being sold on Facebook. Keep in mind that you can find some of these even cheaper on Newegg and there are sales all the time. The only things you might have left to add would be a wifi card (I didn't check the motherboard but sometimes they're built in) and Windows 10.
When it comes to the case just make sure that you are matching up your motherboard with your case. ATX is the full size and then there is mid-ATX and micro-ATX. Each case and motherboard will be labeled with what size they are. Mid to full is normally recommended mainly for cable purposes and ease of build.
Fans are important. Corsair normally ships out really good fans with their cases and you don't have to upgrade them and most Ryzen CPUs come with their own cooler as well. Since you're not going to be overclocking there is really no need to get another one.
I am going to link you another site that we all use here.
On here you will find a system builder that watches out for when parts are on sale and it will even let you know before you buy something if there is a compatibility issue with something you have already picked out. You can also follow their build guides and look at builds from other users and follow their guides.
It seems overwhelming at first but at the end of the day building a PC is, as has famously been said, "Legos for adults."
Okay, from your advice plus a few tweaks as I didn’t copy straight from your build unless you require me to then I will. Here’s a new build:

You can save and get extra performance with this 2600 on amazon! It also works with the b450 board you chose!
ok so you've just admitted that your proof is anecdotal AND outdated
secondly it's general consensus that AMD's stock coolers are far superior to intel, to the point that most people on pc-building forums and subreddits suggest that you don't get an after market cooler and keep the stock one

This is also a good resource. If you have any more indepth questions feel free to message me. If you have Microcenter near you, you can skip buying the parts online and buy them in store where its easier to return faulty parts. They also usually have great sales and CPU/RAM/Motherboard combo prices. Just do your research and don't listen to the salesman in the store. They run on commission and often aren't hardware enthusiasts, just average workers.
It's most important to know what you want and how much you are willing to spend. Pick a budget first, then a performance goal. Is your budget $500, or $1000? Are you going to do any gaming other than FFXIV on it? Do you already have Keyboard, Mouse, Monitor?
Something to keep in mind is your PC monitor. If you only have a 1080p 60hz monitor, don't bother getting anything faster than a 1660 ti. A 60hz monitor can only render 60 frames a second, so if you build a rig that can pump out 120 FPS in the games you play, you wasted money on power you can't/aren't using.
If your goal is ONLY to play FFXIV, you're just gonna use some random 1080p 60hz monitor/TV, and you want to build it as cheaply as possible, I would recommend something along these lines:
You end up with a PC around $650, including Windows 10, that will play FFXIV great. It will play other games as well, just not on the highest quality settings: Quick PC partpicker list
If you want to play games other than FFXIV on the computer, get a GTX 1660ti over the RX 570. You would be able to play any game at 1080p over 60FPS at high/ultra settings that way.
If your budget is much higher I would buy a 1440p 120-144hz monitor, go for an Ryzen 7 3700x, a matching motherboard, and an RTX 2070 super or RX 5700 XT whichever was cheaper. The rest of the build could basically stay the same. Maybe get a slighly larger Powersupply at 750 watts? Maybe get a larger higher quality SSD?

You might have good luck with pricing in your area, but under $500 for just three parts would be quite easy. r5 2600 + msi b450 tomahawk + Corsair 16gb 3000mhz comes out to <$300.
If you prefer 3rd gen ryzen: r5 3600 + asus tuf x570 (wifi) + same Corsair ram comes out to <$450.
Comes out to about $405. To be honest I’d recommend a new build completely. That case doesn’t have very good airflow, and I’m guessing HP has a pretty cheap motherboard in it too. But obviously you’re just trying to upgrade on a budget so this should be good. You could opt out of getting the CPU if you wanted to save some money if you wanted.

Understandable. Right now AMD has a much better line of cpus in terms of price to performance. Which is why he asked. I would go with a Ryzen platform over Intel atm. You'll save a lot of money, and you'll get much more for it at the mid range and high end skus. You can't go wrong with a ryzen 5 2600 or 3600. Some good boards to look at would be the Asrock B450m Pro4, the MSI B450 Tamahawk, or the Gigabyte B450 Aorus. Any of those are good choices and have plenty of features you'd probably want.
Get a 2600 which is 5% slower and has a slightly worse cooler but you save 20 bucks. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07B41WS48/
Get something cheap for motherboard like this one, pretty darn good budget option https://pcpartpicker.com/product/PCKcCJ/asrock-b450-pro4-atx-am4-motherboard-b450-pro4

Cheaper on amazon, performance is better than an 8400 with an overclock. 9400 is the same processor as the 8400, with a 100 mhz bump.

Currently 196.99 CAD on amazon.caHurts my heart that it dropped twice in 12 hours after I paid for it and Amazon has no protection because they claim AMD is the actual retailer therefore giving customers a refund implies pricematching.PSA: Only one cpu per account.Love how they added that restriction AFTER I paid lol.

This isn't much of an upgrade; your current build is actually good enough. Maybe save up a bit more?
You should consider adding more fans for airflow later, especially if you get into overclocking
I've never heard of that PSU before; quick research says it should be OK quality but if I were you, I'd consider swapping it for a better PSU down the line.
I wasn't able to use pcp as well as I'd like so this is the best I could do for now with amazon de and the two sites you listed
I'm not sure if that front fan will bit in the back (mounted as exhaust) -- if it can, I recommend you do so
Happy building!

Well, technically it's a $1056 build and you get some money back after mailing it in and waiting months :S So it's not exactly a fair competition - if my system is allowed the same rule (spending 1060$ upfront) then it beats yours:

I mean sure - you would still need to get a case but you could pick that up and decrease amount of RAM to 16GB. But you do get a better SSD and a PSU in this variant.

I am not saying this system is perfect or whatever mind you. Just that while it does have hiccups it can build fairly good systems too if you check through other options you are given by it upfront so calling it "random parts" is kinda uncalled for.
Call the Bishop, these prices are sinful.

Yes, all those parts will work together. The thing is that you'll kinda need a CPU to make the ensemble work, though.
This is what it recommends I'd spend £500 on to upgrade any thoughts?

I have a 4790K and 980ti and get around 90-100 fps at 1440p. Finding a cheap 4770k or 4790k is probably your cheapest route to a bit more fps. Otherwise I'd probably suggest an R5 2600 for around $160; 16GB of DDR4 Pc3200 for ~$130 and a B450 mobo for around $125. That would bring your total to right around $415 before tax/shipping.
ok so essentially my pc is atm this: https://imgur.com/a/wdodNrs
the upgrades which I have planned are these: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07B41WS48/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1_1_1?smid=AFXON1SGSPLH4&psc=1 https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07FQBLHD6/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1_1_2?smid=AUWMZRMCN1SVB&psc=1 https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01H3P99FG/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1_1_3?smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&psc=1
The reason being is because to support a new processcer I need a new mobo and the new mobo needs new ram.
I have questions: are these parts still relevent is this ram speed fast enough will this stuff be compatible as an upgrade
>So you would say that i will need to buy DDR4 RAM anyway because the new processors are not compatible?

Ryzen 5 2600 is retailing at ~150 USD right now and a cheap B450 is about ~60 USD. So that’s 210 USD which is 164 British pounds I think.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/AMD-6-Core-Wraith-Stealth-Cooler/dp/B07B41WS48
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Asrock-AB350-PRO4-motherboard-black/dp/B06WWF165R
Maybe not these specific ones, but it’s hard to look for stuff when you aren’t British and it defaults to US pricing and stuff
If I get the 2600 https://www.amazon.com/AMD-Processor-Wraith-Stealth-Cooler/dp/B07B41WS48 can I overclock it myself with the cooler it comes with or should I get an aftermarket cooler first?
Buy the Ryzen 2600 and use the money you save into a GTX 1070 or 1070ti.
I would suggest looking into the R5 2600; it replaced the 1600 this year and offers a nice chunk of extra performance for a very small premium.
Userbenchmark calls it 10% better for 15 quid. Pretty good value proposition.
Motherboard-https://www.amazon.com/gp/huc/view.html?ie=UTF8&newItems=Cb7da64d6-86a2-48c9-bafe-c0849e8bd8ab%2C1 Keep in mind that you'll also have to buy ddr4 ram.
Alrighty, I’ll bite.
I got my 2600x for 161 shipped on sale but, that's not normal I understand so let's talk stock prices right now.
CPU Cost:
2600 @ $165 before shipping and tax: https://www.amazon.com/AMD-Processor-Wraith-Stealth-Cooler/dp/B07B41WS48/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1533681131&sr=8-1&keywords=2600
2600x @ $225 before shipping and taxes: https://www.amazon.com/AMD-Ryzen-Processor-Wraith-Cooler/dp/B07B428V2L/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1533681719&sr=1-1&keywords=2600x
Compared to the...
Let’s call this $125 difference so far and move onto....
Cooling:
While the....
So for cooling let’s call it $50 for non OC cooling (it’ll still run hot and you won't see that huge performance difference you'd want for going with the 8700k here) and $90 for cooling an OC ( which I mean you’ll want to OC if getting the 8700k is a priority for your use case.)
Now we’re already at $215 with just the CPU cost and a cooling solution. That’s before we get into delidding (lol) and the more expensive motherboard you’ll have to buy to OC (which again you most likely will get if you are buying the 8700k to go all the way because that’s what your use case is hypothetically here).
Let's keep going, shall we?
Delidding:
So you have your $90 cooling solution but temps are still nearing 75c and above under a gaming load? Looks like you’ll want to delid your $300-350 part because Intel decided not to solder their IHS to the die. So let’s talk options... you can either ship your expensive CPU to someone like silicon lottery to do it for you (for a fee of course) or you can buy the tools necessary and do the job yourself (where you assume the risk of breaking your $300-350 CPU) . Now that we have our two options let’s talk price,

> Liquid Metal - $15 before taxes and shipping.

> Delid tool -$46 before taxes and shipping.

With the more cost effective option we are so far at $260 before purchasing our OC-enabled-tax...
Motherboard:
disclaimer: I haven't kept up with the z370 since release so I'm sure I'm not the most knowledgeable about these boards and am just giving a quick look here.
Actually since I've last checked it looks like we are given a selection of budget z370 chipset mother boards! let's take a look at one...
"Yikes." I don't know how well this board will handle a long term OC to 5.0ghz on those VRMS.... I'm no expert but, everyone always cries foul on better VRMs than these for Ryzen which some pump 1.4v constant volts through....
but at least there's a budget available to at least try and OC on.....
Let's look at something that doesn't look so brown, low phase, and just generally sad. How about something with more than 3 x 3 or whatever the hell that is phase VRMS with VRM heatsinks and black PCB....
There we go. but as we can see the price skyrockets when getting something competent enough to OC on it seems. This may not be the case with every motherboard though and I'll admit I'm doing really quick and dirty research on the motherboards here and may not be doing them justice but, I think we can agree that there are generally more expensive for an equal standard of quality AM4 Motherboard.
> AM4 motherboard that can hold a long term OC with enough phases to power 6 cores: https://www.amazon.com/ROG-B350-F-GAMING-DisplayPort-Motherboard/dp/B071SGQP1Q/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1533683274&sr=1-1&keywords=asus+b350
I don't have a concrete median value for this as I don't have that much experience or knowledge of how well the z370 OC and what the best value is for one. I'll give it a semi-educated guess at $15-35~ more expensive than a b350 that'll do the same job while not looking like a pile of brown garbage (I just hate brown PCB). Though I won't debate this point too hard and you can take it with a grain of salt.
In Conclusion:
Total Cost: $275 for 10-20% performance difference in most games at 1080p with a GTX 1080ti / Vega 64 (which most people don't have). At 1440p the gap is closed even further making the difference extremely negligible especially if you have a weaker GPU than a GTX 1080ti/Vega 64 (Benchmark w/ GTX 1080 for example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wSmpw8jFHoM )
Worth it? (especially for 90% of people's use case?)
I think not.
Excellent. How does this combo look?
Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (This was recommended for that cpu, but it's 3000 MHz, not 3200.)
edit: Oh, there's a C16 3200 MHz version that's only $3 more.
Right, so by the R5 2600 do you mean this? https://www.amazon.it/AMD-Ryzen-2600-3-4GHz-processor/dp/B07B41WS48/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1524875929&sr=1-1&keywords=ryzen+5+2600
