Oh, heck...Grant's Pest Control Stakes are no longer made! What a drag. Those things worked really well. These appear to do the same thing...maybe they're worth a try!
And for blocking ants...use a spray cleaner like 409 or Fantastik. But here's the key...don't clean up the mess. Spray the whole line of ants with the cleaner and leave them. In my experience, the ants will clean up the bodies and then never return. Probably something about the horror of seeing their comrades half-dissolved seems to dissuade them. Ants aren't stupid.
tango is the safest to use around pets, kids, food. since its birth control but it takes 3 months for them to die off as they have to live out their lives.

Provaunt is the other recommendation but is more toxic.

For me it makes sense to use the toxic quick death up front and then spray tango monthly as long term

from a being lazy perspective i've had pretty good results with these https://www.amazon.com/Amdro-Kills-Ants-Stakes-Pack/dp/B0052EINNK/ref=sr_1_9?dchild=1&keywords=ant+baits+spikes&qid=1598986769&sr=8-9

Then if they get somewhere I don't want and need them out ASAP I use wasp spray to kill them

also you can use food grade diatomaceous earth as a barrier. so in the back of your cabinets or along the wall of your garage or whatever. It's basically like walking on glass for them. But it doesn't work if it gets wet.
I had this, they had a nest in the soil of one of my indoor succulents. Put one of these there and they were gone within 2 days and haven't come back https://www.amazon.com/Amdro-Kills-Ants-Stakes-Pack/dp/B0052EINNK/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1542582700&sr=8-8&keywords=amdro
