Anker cables are great, but their 10 foot charger cables are no where near $40-50. I want to know what product /u/DirkNowitzkisWife was referring to.
My Oculus Link cable arrived this afternoon. I haven't connected it yet, but I thought I'd post some photos and information that compares it to the previously-recommended Anker Powerline USB C to USB 3.0 Cable (10ft).
The Link cable measures 201.5 inches (16.8 feet) from end to end and weighs 220g. That's ~~.92g~~ 1.09g per inch.
The Anker cable measures 121.5 inches (10.1 feet) from end to end and weighs 154g. That's ~~.79g~~ 1.27g per inch.
As you can see in one of the photos, the Link cable is slightly thinner than the Anker cable, and you can tell when you hold both in your hands.
While the Link cable is heavier (per inch), it feels the same as the Anker when you hold both cables. I had my wife do the same test, and she agrees. They might as well be identical.
The Link cable is definitely more flexible than the Anker cable. Whether it's the width that makes the difference or the material itself, it's easy to imagine the Link cable being a better HMD-connected experience.
There's an anker cable they recommend by name on their site. I got it on Amazon and it works great.
But honestly the small upgrade in visual fidelity isn't worth being tethered.
Anker USB C Cable, Powerline USB... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MZIPYPY?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Oculus Link allows you to connect your Quest to your PC via any USB port. You don't need a USB-C or HDMI or DisplayPort or anything like that. Just buy a USB-C to USB 3.0 cable and that's literally all you need. Oculus itself recommends this third-party cable but just about any cable is an option. I've used a junk cable with a micro-USB to USB-C adapter and even that works.
Or just play through Virtual Desktop. You literally don't even need to be physically connected to your computer to play PCVR through your Quest. It sounds like you haven't done a lot of research if this information was unknown to you.
The flaws are it's on a cable and that can trip people up. That's not a metaphor: It can actually trip you. That's really about it.
If your wireless virtual desktop solution is set up in a perfect scenario, you'll have less latency than the Cable Route. But A) The Cable Route doesn't have much latency to begin with so outside of maybe some thing like Beat Saber it truly doesn't matter, and B) If you live in something like an apartment building or a dense neighbourhood, the perfect scenario just ain't happening.
You want the easiest route?
Grab your Quest 2. Grab this cable or something equivalent in the appropriate length, and install the Oculus program on your computer. Boot up the program, plug in the cable, and you're literally done.
Dunno why you're getting downvoted bud, some people can be weirdly toxic here. Any USB 3.0 type C cable will do, even if it's USB A to USB C. Here's an Anker one for you to look at, you'll want the 10Ft one.
Literally any USB-C <-> USB-A 3.0 Cable will work. You might even have one around your house already that will do the trick.
Here is the one I use It's $20 and works fine for my Quest 2, but Facebook says on their own website it should work for the Quest 1 as well.
>Good wifi or an expensive USB-C cable
I disagree with the "Expensive" cable part. I use this one and I've had no issues at all.
There is no real TLDR as it's based on your needs, but this cable worked great for me. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MZIPYPY/
Overall you will have a smoother and clearer experience with the cable, but I mostly do sitting PCVR games though.. If you value moving around freely then both Air Link and VD are great solutions, but need a great wireless network and a network cable plugged into the PC directly (that part is necessary and not optional)
You can also mess with various settings for clarity of the image in the Oculus Debug tool if you look it up.
It's USB-C to USB-A, not C to C, but I use This exact cable and get the same results. 2 to 2.5 Standalone, 6 to 8 wired Link.
This cable was advertised as a tested alternative on the Quest 2 website itself at one point.
While I haven't used my Quest 2 for Warthunder, I can answer some of these. Keyboard and mouse, yes. Difficult to set up, no not really and it would be worth it if you like the idea of being able to actually look around instead of holding C every time. Graphics are going to be lacking, mainly because of the fresnel lenses that are used in the headset creating "God Rings" and partially blurring the pixels. Connecting to the PC is uh... Not fun. You'll need a link cable that can run from $20-$80, and then an app on Steam called "Virtual Desktop," and that makes it not matter if you use the Steam client or Gaijin's because it streams your entire desktop to the headset. Here's the cable I got, it's nice because the velcro strip it comes with is just the right size to hold the cable to the headstrap so it doesn't come unplugged. If you encounter sound issues, unplug the headset and plug it back in, then reconnect to Virtual Desktop. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MZIPYPY/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_asin\_title\_o01\_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1
Hello there, thats a good question!
It is possible to use Link with a third party USB-C cable, but cables can vary in terms of speed and performance. So, if you choose to use a third party cable, make sure it has a transfer speed of at least 5 Gbps.
Another important factor of the cable is the length. To not get too limited in movement, we recommend a cable of at least 10ft.
We have tested the Anker cable internally with good results. Here you can find the cable in question
Have fun exploring VR ☺️
I think it has an optical cable internally with conversion electronics at each end. You won't necessarily get faster data rates, but the latency is a lot lower. I have this cable and get a 3gb connection and only 2gb on the official one.
Anker USB C Cable, Powerline USB... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01MZIPYPY?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
If you're uncertain, this is the one I use. Not had any issues
Anker USB C Cable, Powerline USB 3.0 to USB C Charger Cable (10ft) with 56k Ohm Pull-up Resistor for Samsung Galaxy Note 8, S8, S8+, S9, Oculus Quest, Sony XZ, LG V20 G5 G6, HTC 10 and More https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01MZIPYPY/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_gl_i_RSP3EW7ZRYPCWK033ZEF?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I use the Anker cable that oculus actually recommended before they brought out their own and it's great.
you gotta have a fast usb cable. Something like this one Its a 5 gb/s cable. its gotta be plugged into USB 3.0 for it to reach that speed. also minimum for vr is a gtx 1050. a 1650 ti is almost the same i have it and it works.
I use the Anker 3.1 USB c cable. Anker USB C Cable, Powerline USB 3.0 to USB C Charger Cable (10ft) with 56k Ohm Pull-up Resistor for Samsung Galaxy Note 8, S8, S8+, S9, Oculus Quest, Sony XZ, LG V20 G5 G6, HTC 10 and More https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MZIPYPY/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_81SX6W8GJNE5TBQAWX3Y
I guess reddit didn't post the link lol, it's Anker
Which USB 3.1 cable did you order off Amazon? I got a new PC with USB-C and I was thinking of getting the official Oculus link cable.
I have this cable currently and it works fine on my old PC https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MZIPYPY/ But on the new one I get the same USB 3 connection recommended error like you have and it's plugged in the fast 3.2 slot.
Anker USB C Cable, Powerline USB 3.0 to USB C Charger Cable (10ft) with 56k Ohm Pull-up Resistor for Samsung Galaxy Note 8, S8, S8+, S9, Oculus Quest, Sony XZ, LG V20 G5 G6, HTC 10 and More https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MZIPYPY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_XKHATRBKVB2DCAD9SEH6?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

See if that link works. It comes with a velcro strap on it which is handy for helping secure it to the headset so it isn't awkwardly hanging in random places as it's quite a weighty cable.
Yeah sure, here you go: Anker USB C Cable, Powerline USB 3.0 to USB C Charger Cable (10ft) with 56k Ohm Pull-up Resistor for Samsung Galaxy Note 8, S8, S8+, S9, Oculus Quest, Sony XZ, LG V20 G5 G6, HTC 10 and More https://smile.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01MZIPYPY/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_dl_BETKDV78CMNS4ANDV20C?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
This is an ancient thread at this point, but I had this very same issue and found a solution. I had to purchase a USB3 to USB3C cable in order to get it to charge again properly. This is the specific cable that I bought that worked for me: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MZIPYPY/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_asin\_title\_o01\_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Good luck! My airlink connection is unplayable, even 10 feet from my router. Fortunately, you don't need an oculus brand cable. I bought this one:
Anker USB C Cable, Powerline USB 3.0 to USB C Charger Cable (10ft) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MZIPYPY/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_PZX2MNNQR66ZFCYEKXFW?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
For streaming, I think it might be difficult to stream straight from the headset. I think most streamers would be playing PCVR and streaming that.

For your second point, correct. Any usb-c cable that supports the bandwidth requirements works, their cable is overpriced. I personally use this Anker one (be careful, some of the anker ones are power only meant strictly for charging devices!) The official one has a bandwidth of 5 Gbps, same as the one I linked. Personally, I only own one game on the quest store because I had a coupon. The rest are on my rift store or steam library and I just airlink (wireless streaming if you have wifi 6) for shorter sessions or for games where wireless is much comfier like beat saber and use the cable for longer sessions like for iracing as it does charge the headset and it doesnt last long otherwise. That's why I got the 64GB version, personally. I spent the money difference buying a few games for it instead.
I got a 10 foot Anker Powerline USB-C to USB 3 cable from Amazon for $20CAD that works just fine for Oculus link, the official one is a huge ripoff. https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B01MZIPYPY/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_asin\_title\_o09\_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
This is the 3rd party cable that oculus recommends. I have one, works great although I almost never use it because airlink/vd.
Plenty of great options like the Reverb and Quest out there as others have said. Although, if you do go with the Oculus Quest 2, buy this USB-C cable. It's USB 3.0, works perfectly, and costs way less than Oculus's official Link Cable.
I didn't fix them via wireless, no. I gave up after a 2 weeks of trying different things and surfing through Google.
I just purchased this cable from amazon and use the thing wired if I wish to play games that aren't on the Oculus store.
I have a quest one but my friend has a quest two, you can buy a USB to USB C adapter cable. Anker is supported by oculus, it is what I use, it is a bit expensive though at $20 but it works fine, just make sure you plug it into a USB 3.0 port. Just know, you will have to keep it plugged into the PC so to keep it from pulling you down, make sure it isn't in a knot when you use it.
I have only just got my quest and been using oculus link but from what I have noticed yes, The types of games huave looked better on steamVR than the quest alone. I went for the Anker 10ft cable since its only £17 not £89 like the offcial one and I beleive they have a USB C - USB C cable as well.
Here's one that's 2M long. A lot of the cables for VR are 2m
Also
> C-to-C cables would be useful to connect your phone in those cases.
Maybe, though A to C would still be a lot more common since PCs comes with like 20 A ports still.
I've heard the charger can be hit-or-miss; I think the Q1 cable works for data but is 2.0 and I've heard varying reports about the Q2 cable.
You don't need the official Link cable for sideloading. I got the Anker USB-C to USB-A 3.0 cable that was the Oculus suggestion before the official cable was released and it has worked perfectly for SideQuest for me since November 2019. It worked perfectly for Link, too... until one of the Oculus updates (I think it was v24) broke it for a lot of people. Hopefully v28 will make it work again and I'm curious as to how well AirLink will work compared to VD.
A regular USB-C cable is fine, you don't need to buy Oculus' expensive cable.
Here is a third party cable confirmed working by Oculus themselves:
https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Powerline-Pull-up-Resistor-Samsung/dp/B01MZIPYPY?th=1
If you wish to play Wireless, then you can do so through an app called Virtual Desktop available in the Quest Store, it costs $20. A decent router and 5 GHz Wifi is required and I strongly recommend connecting your PC to the router via ethernet. There is some added latency but whether that will cause issues depends on the person.
Hey hey! Fellow Canadian here! I bought the Anker one off Amazon! https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01MZIPYPY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_E38Z4015A2DR4YNCMTPF
Edit. Just realized you’re only looking for an adapter! Wooops! But if you decide to just get one cord, this will work!
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MZIPYPY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (assuming you have a Quest) I just use one of these on the VR Ready labeled port. I have a similar MSI board and the VR Ready port is the only one that doesn't give me a fog of compression artifacts and completely disconnect when I turn my head. Yours looks a couple years newer than mine so might work on any port, but they label that one USB-A as vr ready for a reason. It's set up on the hardware level to have less latency (probably reducing shared pci bus resources) and give better voltage regulation for longer cables. Even if another port works, you will get better performance out of the VR labeled usb-a port.
I bought this cable off of Amazon and it works flawlessly.
Only 2 complaints I have is 1) it plugs in on the left side of the headset which is fine in my playing but wish it was on the right. 2) I’m concerned about how it plugs in. Since it’s straight on the cable falls to the floor and I imagine puts strain on the cable, the port, or both. Not sure how good it is long term. I’ve seen L shape converters that may be helpful in routing the cable around the head strap and would help take pressure off the cable.
I would recommend you to buy the Anker Cable. I have it (10ft version) and it works excellent, even Oculus recommends it.
Of course, if you need more than 10ft, you will need to use an active extension (I wouldn't recommend you to use the Oculus Link Cable as it's a C-To-C, and, as you said, you don't have a C-port in your computer, and using adapters could leave you with issues like you had now).
Unfortunately I had to settle for a USB-C to USB-A connection instead of C-to-C. I ended up getting this cable: Link and it's been working with no problems.
No any good quality usb 3 cable will work, this is what I use along side an active extender.
Edit: I will say if you can get virtual desktop running well I would recommend that over link
Gone up a little in price since I bought it, probably in demand for quest looking at reviews. Also I live in the UK, so this is amazon.co.uk.
This is the same cable YouTubers were sent to test link before the official cable came out though. Works great for me so far.
Hey there!
Aside from the Oculus Link Cable, we recommend the Anker Cable. Click here for one I've found that should be perfect for your PC and the Quest 2, via Amazon (US).
Thanks!
Launching Oculus Link on your Quest:
The following instructions should get you going with Oculus Link on your Quest:
Open the Oculus app on your PC.
Turn on your Quest.
Plug your USB 3 cable into a USB 3.0 port on your PC, then plug the other end into your headset.
If you are prompted with ‘Allow access to data’, select Deny.
Next, you’ll be prompted to Enable Oculus Link (beta), select Enable to begin remote rendering via Oculus Link.
that's very important to note: you need to use usb 3 cable
you can use this one as it has been tested by oculus instead of official oculus link cable that is extremely overpriced
Have you checked out Bigscreen Beta yet? It is my favorite app. You sit in a VR thearter and chat and watch stuff with people around the world. Best of all it is free. Beat saber, Space pirate trainer and VR chat are amazing too. Also if you have a VR capable gaming PC I recommend getting a link cable so you can play steam VR games as well. A powered usb 3.0 hub is required to charge while you use it though. not sure about usb c. If you have a c port you should get a usb c cable. Welcome to this awesome community!
Anker and any other USB 3 A-C cable should do fine. Just make sure it is at least 3m.
I was in your shoes about two months ago - I haven't gone through the process of working out virtual desktop, but for what it's worth I bought this cable and am able to play steam games just fine
Yeah the anker cable I had just got is usb c to usb a 3.0
I have a usb c port but it reads the cables at usb 2.0 it is a common issue I guess with nvidia so long story short you just need a free usb 3.0 port and a usb c to usb a 3.0 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MZIPYPY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_vt72FbCFNMMDS?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Anker USB C Cable, Powerline USB 3.0 to USB C Charger Cable (10ft) with 56k Ohm Pull-up Resistor for Samsung Galaxy Note 8, S8, S8+, S9, Oculus Quest, MacBook, Sony XZ, LG V20 G5 G6, HTC 10 and More https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MZIPYPY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_fabc_-R40FbJTMWMD5?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Using this anker cable it does supply power during play. However the power it provides is slightly less than what the Quest consumes, so the battery level will still go downwards. But the decline is much slower than normal untethered use, you could play for probably 10 hours straight if you wanted. But eventually you'd need to stop and let it recharge.
I think this is worth it, considering the chance of playing pc vr longer than 8-10 hours in one sitting is very unlikely and saves you £60
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01MZIPYPY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabc_qYwZFbX18HFFV
I live in the UK.
This is the cable oculus themselves used to recommend before making their own. I got it for £12 a few weeks back.
>Link cable will be like the rift S yes.
Great to hear! And I’m assuming I don’t have to get the expensive Oculus Link cable and can just get a cheap one like Anker’s USB-C cable instead, right? Do you know if that’ll still allow me to play with the best resolution and bitrate, as well as 90 Hz, wirelessly?
>Wireless to wireless will increase latency to a point you probably wont be happy with.. it should work, but not as good as it should
What do you mean? What is this an alternative to? Don’t all Quest 2 users use “wireless to wireless” when playing wirelessly?
Thanks for all the help, btw. I really appreciate it!
The link I posted was for Amazon in Canada, try clicking here if you want the US site, or you can search for "Anker Powerline USB-C to USB 3.0 Cable (10ft)"... although given you were reading reviews on Amazon, it seems you might have found it already haha. [EDIT: Whoops, just re-read that you said the Reddit link gave you trouble, not Amazon. Just head over to the subreddit and select Wiki up top.]
As for the elbow connector, that's up to you, really. I don't use one, I just run the cable along of side of the headset to the back strap and fasten it with a velco strip (included with the cable) so that it runs down my back. While the cord juts out of the headset at kind of a weird angle as a result, the stress on the port shouldn't be too bad without any weight being placed on it (I also give it a bit of slack so it's not bending the cable/port too much). Perhaps more importantly, having the cable completely out of the way means I sometimes forget I have a cable attached at all... something I would have never said with my Rift CV1.
This is the one Oculus themselves recommended, as well as the one I (and many others) bought.
Anker USB C Cable, Powerline USB 3.0 to USB C Charger Cable (10ft) with 56k Ohm Pull-up Resistor for Samsung Galaxy Note 8, S8, S8+, S9, Oculus Quest, MacBook, Sony XZ, LG V20 G5 G6, HTC 10 and More https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MZIPYPY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabc_5QqVFb8VHQYKK?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
If you want one for oculus link you need it to be able to send data and power at the same time which a lot do but not all. There’s a cheap one on Amazon by Anker that oculus recommends on their site.
I have an Anker USB3A-C cable and it works great. The one below:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01MZIPYPY
My only complaint is that it's a little heavy coming out the side of the headset, but it's not sensitive at all. If you've got the one above it sounds like you've either got a faulty cable or a faulty connection.
I've been considering an Oculus Ques 2 and this thread answers a bunch of my questions. Thanks for posting this. It looks like this is the Anker cable that's being referred. It mentions Oculus Quest in the listing of it.
I’m using the anker usb-C cable such as this one Anker Powerline USB-C to USB 3.0 Cable (10ft) with 56k Ohm Pull-up Resistor for samsung phones, iPad, MacBook, Sony, LG, HTC, Xiaomi 5 https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01MZIPYPY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabc_3IYPFbQ7J9WRN?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
It’s the one that Oculus recommend themselves as they’ve tested it:
Anker USB C Cable, Powerline USB 3.0 to USB C Charger Cable (10ft) with 56k Ohm Pull-up Resistor for Samsung Galaxy Note 8, S8, S8+, S9, Oculus Quest, MacBook, Sony XZ, LG V20 G5 G6, HTC 10 and More https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01MZIPYPY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_J4VNFb4X4FQDJ?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
That ones great it I got the anker cable and it works amazing Anker USB C Cable, Powerline USB 3.0 to USB C Charger Cable (10ft) with 56k Ohm Pull-up Resistor for Samsung Galaxy Note 8, S8, S8+, S9, Oculus Quest, MacBook, Sony XZ, LG V20 G5 G6, HTC 10 and More https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MZIPYPY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_KY5MFbX73AEX7
I didn't buy the Link, my understanding is that it's a standard USB 3.0 cable and the technology they use is more about decreasing the loss of signal integrity over the longer than average cable length.
Yes, if you buy a bad adapter it might not have USB 3.0 compatibility.
I bought his cable from Anker for under $20: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MZIPYPY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
yes , there is a difference oculus' cable is really good, but expensive AF , but you can buy Anker cable which is compatible with oculus link requirements (they have mentioned it on their official website :) ) if u live in us link here if u dont , write :)
THIS is the best answer ever. Look, I hedged my bets and ordered a cable just so I had SOMETHING in the house when that update drops. But I'm not sure I'd recommend anything until we have some data back.
We're all eager as hell. We all want day one satisfaction - but with Amazon same/one-day delivery and a community that will have 50+ **TESTED** recommendations with 24 hours of the update?
Well .. there you have it.
>Can you link the cable you bought?
Not sure what you're asking, here. If you'll read the post I mentioned that I got a cable and was able to use it with the Oculus Link software, which only works with a capable cable.
>In the interim, I bought my Quest a little over a month ago, knowing that LINK was just down the road. When it finally dropped this week I scrambled, like many, to get a cable that would suffice and experimented with it.
That's how I was able to "sit" in the cockpit of my ship and look around in the game.
Now, if you're asking me which cable I bought, I got the one suggested by Oculus from Amazon. Here is the link to that cable. If I am misunderstanding your initial question, feel free to rephrase it better and I'll try to answer it.
I used this cable for link on my Q2 and it works well.
Anker USB C Cable, Powerline USB... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MZIPYPY?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
It’s usb C to usbA 3.0. It’s long enough for seated stuff and well made.
There is an option for wireless using virtual desktop but it will require a decent 5.4ghz wifi router, the 19.99 VD app, side quest to side load some stuff, and then you’re good to go. I hear great things about VD but since I’m just rocking my isp provided modem/router combo I’ve not bothered to spend 20.00 on something that may not work so well with my circumstance and I’m not prepared to buy a new router just for it either when I can use the 20.00 cable for link. Maybe someday when I need a new router for other purposes I’ll go VD.
Nice spam post shill (see post history). Just buy the Anker Powerline cable for $20 ($50 less) and not some random drop shipped Chinese cable whose company uses Reddit to shill ("I found better option") for their overpriced cable that works no different than the wire referenced below.
https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Powerline-Pull-up-Resistor-MacBook/dp/B01MZIPYPY/
This is the cable Oculus support have been recommending: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01MZIPYPY
Using it on my PC it's working very well - although worth noting it doesn't transfer enough power to keep the headset charged. It decreases at roughly 10% an hour (which should be fine unless you're planning to play for 10 hours straight or you plug the headset in on a low charge).
Worth noting however that the 10m version of the cable I ordered doesn't work with my laptop. Seems to be an issue with the amount of power available to the USB ports. Worth keeping in mind depending on what you're planning to link the headset to.
I was playing some pcvy last night for an hour or so after my quest battery nearly died playing wirelessly. I do have a USB c port but I was using an anker USB 3.0 to USB C cable cause I already had it and it worked fine... Loads cheaper too https://smile.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01MZIPYPY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_Q7UIFbEEJB8PY
It sucks, but the Quest is a completely separate device. The specs for games to run on the Quest just aren’t the same as on PC. Developers have to make their games compatible with both if they want to. I just made the switch from a Rift CV1 to the Quest 2. Some of my games were crossbuy and I have them on my Quest now. For the others, I’m going to be using Virtual Desktop to stream them. I haven’t tested in depth yet, but I did a quick test earlier and it seemed to work really well. Also, if you’re not set on getting the official oculus cable, you can get third party cables on Amazon that work. Like this for example: https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Powerline-Pull-up-Resistor-MacBook/dp/B01MZIPYPY/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=oculus+quest+usb+c+to+usb+3.0&qid=1602641269&sprefix=oculus+quest+usb&sr=8-3
No difference between 3rd party copper usb and the official fiber link... yet. Technically the official link cable is still in beta and is capable of higher bandwidth. It would be surprising if the link cable doesn't perform better at some point in the future but for now just stick with a usb 3. This one is popular for the quest 1 according to the wiki.
I'm not sure if the official sold-by-Oculus link cable is C to C or C to A, but the cable itself is nothing special, it's just a high-quality USB 3 cable. I use an Anker cable myself: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MZIPYPY?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Whether the port on the computer side is C or A shouldn't make a difference; its the exact same data, just a different form factor, so long as it's USB 3. The headset side is of course C.
I wouldn't bother and spend a bit of extra money to get this instead https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01MZIPYPY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fab_cwUDFb8KDD5E7
If your talking about the Quest 2 the charging cable isn't long enough, and despite what people say you'll be better off getting a USB3 cable instead.
Just that it's USB 3.0 or above I think. If it's longer than 10 feet or so you'll probably need something with it's own power supply. I've tried those and they didn't work so lots of research if you do.
This is the one Oculus recommended before releasing their own cable. I have it and it works perfectly well.
Alternatively, buy Virtual Desktop on the app store (then update it in Sidequest) and you can play PCVR wirelessly (if your router is fairly decent).
You can also get the Anker Powerline cable for like ~$20. It’s only 10 feet which is a few feet shorter than the link cable but many people have seen success with it. https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Powerline-Pull-up-Resistor-MacBook/dp/B01MZIPYPY/ref=mp_s_a_1_6?dchild=1&keywords=anker+powerline+10ft&qid=1595876330&sprefix=anker+powerline+10&sr=8-6
I have the same laptop and it works fine. Make sure you’re using a USBC to USB cable, not USBC to USBC. Also make sure to update both of the graphics cards. Don’t disable anything. Make sure you’re on the latest version of Windows.
For a cable i’d recommend the official one, but there is a budget Anker one that I use.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MZIPYPY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_526gFbQT3NANY
Hi.
The official Oculus Link cable is a USB type c to USB type c cable. If your PC does not have a USB C port, you can purchase a USB 3.0 to USB type c cable through Amazon. We recommend the one that is available from Anker as that is the one that has been tested. You can find out more information at this link: click here.
Thanks.
I am not with Anker. Not an ad. No referral code. This seems to work well for many, including me. Search Amazon or Anker for USB C Charger, Anker Powerline USB C to USB 3.0 Cable (10ft) with 56k Ohm Pull-up Resistor for Samsung Galaxy Note 8, S8, S8+, S9, S10, Oculus Quest, Sony XZ, LG V20 G5 G6, HTC 10 and More. I have had success with the 10ft cable. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MZIPYPY/
I'm in a similar situation:
My computer doesn't have a C port on it, and though I bought a graphics amplifier so I can "install" a new graphics card (though the thing's going to start life as a glorified USB hub as I still need to choose and buy a suitable card), I don't think that has a C port either.
From what I'm reading "any appropriately high performance USB 3.0 cable will work." I'm not seeing a definition of "high performance" just niw but there a few suggestions like this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MZIPYPY/
I don't know if ASINs are identical in other versions of the site but you might try a search for B01MZIPYPY on whatever version of Amazon you typically visit and see if that gives you a similar result.
As to the charging cable that came with the Quest, I've heard that's not fast enough for the purpose and is really only good for charging.
So I got the off Brand one on amazon that is https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MZIPYPY?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_dt_b_product_details
Not sure if I can post links but this works great for me.
I also have 5ghz and virtual desktop and it’s not nearly as good as the cable obviously but all good options. That’s what the quest kicks ass for. It can do everything depending on how you want to play
Interested to know this too, ideally a 10ft cable.
BTW that 10ft cable you linked is micro USB so won't work for the Quest.
This is the cable Oculus recommend, but the 10ft version is out of stock and has been for weeks now. Not sure why Anker aren't capitalising on the demand and free advertising they got.
This is the cable I used. I’m pretty sure it supports data transfer.
Thanks. FYI I think this is the officially recommended one:
https://www.amazon.ca/Anker-PowerLine-Pull-up-Resistor-Samsung/dp/B01MZIPYPY/ref=sr_1_3
Although your braided one might be a little nicer for flexibility. Also FYI, active extensions are working so you could probably use one of those to set up your ceiling suspension. You might need to tape the two cables together to make sure they don't come unplugged.
The official Link cable will cost $79 USD, which will probably translate to about $109 CAD. Any USB 3.0 cable with a Type C connector will work; you can buy a suitable 10ft cable for less than $20 CAD. The official Link cable just offers lighter weight and more length than is possible with a normal USB cable.
Anker PowerLine USB-C to USB 3.0 Cable (10ft) with 56k Ohm Pull-up Resistor for Galaxy S8, S8+, MacBook, Nintendo Switch, Sony XZ, LG V20 G5 G6, HTC 10, Xiaomi 5 and More https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MZIPYPY?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf
That's what I got, but just fair warning it's a very heavy cable. I'd say about twice the thickness of what you are probably accustomed to for charger wires. Overall though can't complain. It does it's job, and reasonably cheap IMO given its good construction
Although if you wanted USB C to C, I can't help you much, sorry. I would assume that most you find in Amazon be good quality, but for me personally, I will go for Anker every time if they have what I'm looking for, even if it's slightly more expensive.
It seems as though they do not have long c to c cables though, unless I am blind
Edit: Here's a comparison between a regular 3ft cable from Anker, and the one I linked earlier
Those are fun games (Beat Saber is a hit with anyone I've showed it to) but they all have one thing in common: they're primarily single player experiences. I spend most of my Quest native time on MP games like Eleven Table Tennis and Contractors VR (shooter).
As for SideQuest, most of the content are demos, experiments, alphas, etc. I wouldn't worry about breaking the Quest. Notable exceptions are Pavlov Shack (nice little free MP shooter, I like Contractors more though) and DrBeef's ports of PC games to VR (RTCW, Doom 3, etc.).
For PCVR, you have two options:
You don't need the official cable.
You can also stream games from your PC by buying Virtual Desktop on the Quest. This means no tethers! You run a little server app on your PC and your Quest will be able to find it and stream its desktop/VR games. Can also be used to play 2D games in a VR environment like a movie theater etc. Works best if your PC is hard wired but it's OK even if it's on high strength 5GHz wifi.

Thank me later.
Hey there!
Oculus Link does not require the Official Oculus Link cable - but Oculus Link does require a high-quality USB cable capable of supporting data and power.
For the best experience, we recommend USB 3.0 or greater. Internally, we've had success with the Anker cable, seen here (via Amazon.com).
Thank you!
I'm using this cable with the quest 2:
along with this adapter for the headset:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07JK1G6W2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
And it seems to work well, the only downside that I've found with the above setup is that it's only a 10 foot long cable.
If that's not long enough for you, you could add an extender cable.
I've ordered the following extension cable which presumably works with the above cable as well:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0179MXKU8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The 256 gb is just more storage, nothing special. The biggest game I have is only 8gb and it's Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners.
Don't buy the official oculus link cable. I personally use this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MZIPYPY/?tag=androidcentralb-20&ascsubtag=UUacUdUnU98765YYwYg but there are other ones. Such as https://www.amazon.com/Upgraded-KIWI-design-Transfer-Charging/dp/B086HBGNFQ this one.
Stock strap is really bad. It may not feel that bad when you first use it but it is pretty terrible. The elite strap is good imo but it breaks for a lot of people. Mine is still good, but that's just mine. Can't speak for everyone.
I also recommend buying https://www.amazon.com/VR-Cover-Facial-Interface-Replacement/dp/B08NC7TX3H/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=VR+Cover&qid=1625006888&sr=8-3 because the stock facial interface thing is pretty bad/
I have the Oculus-suggested Anker Powerline cable (10ft) plus a CableCreation Active USB extension cable (16.4ft). Both cables are fairly thick compared to what you'd get with the official USB-C cable, but I get an extra 10ft and a lot of extra cash in my pocket. You could obviously just go for the Anker cable by itself if you didn't need all the extra length... either way, you can't go wrong for the price.
This works perfectly: https://smile.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01MZIPYPY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I don't even use mine anymore though because Virtual Desktop works so well (haven't tried Airlink yet)
Just a high quality USB cable. USB-c to USB 3.0
Don't just get any old cable, they don't all work, but this Anker cable is recommended by Oculus itself. If you don't go with Anker, do your research on the cable to see if it does work. The cable has to meet some technical spec requirements that goes beyond my knowledge to be able to transmit both data and power and not every usbc-usb 3.0 cable does this.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MZIPYPY/ and only costs $20.
Oculus sells an official Link cable but that shits like $80
Buy the cheaper Anker cable - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MZIPYPY/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_U_rTvbEbV7CTW8S
I think this is the one people are buying - I never tried one as I got the Link Cable when it was released. Give it a googs and see what people are saying but I THINK this is it. Works ok but isn't as flexible.
I would also like to add that the Quest 2 really is a headset for PCVR games. I use the link for most games and Virtual Desktop for room scale stuff from the other end of the house (luckily I don't have the same wifi issues you do at your place - I have a Wifi6 router and good signal throughout)
Below is my Virtual Desktop settings - I was having a ton of trouble with VD until I followed this video from Mac in VR - he's one of the newer Quest VR channels and he's pretty great. I now get a steady 30-32ms latency and very rare stutters. Can't even tell it isn't plugged in.
My VR Setup:
Quest 2 64GB RTX2070 Super + i7-7700 + 16GB RAM, Ethernet Connection + TP-Link Archer AX50 (AX3000) Wifi 6 Router (steady 1200mbps - only the Quest connecting to the 5G when playing)
My optimal settings:
Codec: H264
Auto Bitrate: OFF
VR Quality: MEDIUM
VR Frames: 90fps
VR Bitrate: 48mbps
Sliced Encoding: ON
Extra Latency: ON
Video Buffering: OFF
NVIDIA Low Latency Mode: ULTRA

Anyway good luck and happy gaming :)
Hey there! We recommend the Anker Cable. Click here for one I've found on Amazon (US). Thanks!
Yeah it’s a 3.0 USB port and this is the cable I was having problems with: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MZIPYPY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_fabc_zZ76FbJ8B7456?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
You can use any USB-C 3.0 cable really. [https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MZIPYPY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_fabc_6tv1Fb0JV168A?psc=1](This is what Oculus recommends for third party)
It's recommended to use a USB 3, although USB 2 is now supported this will impact the performance. The official link cable is basically USB 3.0 with fibre optics to get the length slightly longer. Oculus recommend the Anker Powerline USB 3.0 cable, and /r/OculusQuest has put together a spreadsheet of components which give USB 3 speeds.
I'm personally using the 3m Anker Powerline, UGREEN Active Extender cable and an AFUNTA 90 degree angle. It works fine and is ~£40 less than the official link cable. The Anker cable seems very robust.
I’m using this one with my Quest and it’s great!
NO! I got this same adapter to connect my headset and it did not carry the USB 3 through to the computer. I got this cord (https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B01MZIPYPY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)
and for extra distance I got this
(https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B0179MXKU8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)
Good luck!
This is a good one, it is even the one that Oculus recommends https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MZIPYPY/
It's $18 for a 10 foot cable
People have used this to extend the above cable even further than 10 feet, need an active extender, which is what this extender cable has on it, to prevent any kind of loss.
https://www.amazon.com/CableCreation-Extension-Extender-Booster-Compatible/dp/B0179MXKU8/
It's $19.
The oculus link cable is 15 feet, uses fiber optics, is much lighter than other brands of USB cables, it made from higher quality materials to maximize it's throughput.
Fine...
The official Oculus link cable is great but its also super overpriced. I have been using this Anker cable for months...
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MZIPYPY/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_U_rTvbEbV7CTW8S
But you will also need one of these...
Works flawlessly.
Anker Powerline USB-C to USB 3.0. https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01MZIPYPY?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Edit: I guess I lied, it’s a 10’ cable. Sorry. Works great tho.
I got this one and it’s been fine.
Oculus recommended cable on Amazon for same price.
Oculus links for North America | Canada | UK | Japan | Australia | Germany
Was the cable rated at 5Gbps or better? If not you will likely want to buy one off of Amazon that specifically list the specs. There are many variations on USB and just because it has a C connector does not mean it is the right spec. Below is the one Oculus recommends if you do not go with their branded cable.
I had disconnects like that a long time ago, I've had some luck with this cable https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MZIPYPY/ref=cm_sw_r_apanp_gTYgwVmftjdMA also try different usb ports. Update all drivers for PC
Yes here you go:
Anker Powerline USB-C to USB 3.0 Cable (10ft) with 56k Ohm Pull-up Resistor for Galaxy S8, S8+, S9, iPad Pro 2018, MacBook, Sony XZ, LG V20 G5 G6, HTC https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MZIPYPY/ref=cm_sw_r_apanp_gTYgwVmftjdMA
I bought this 10ft cable from Anker and it only cost me a little over $25. Works like a charm. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MZIPYPY
the official one is gud but it may be a bit expensive for what it is, so you could try one like this amazon tho i dont know how gud it is cuz i got the official one
Idk if you can trust, but that's simply too much for a cable. I use a standard usb-c 3.0 cable from amazon with no issues.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MZIPYPY/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_9D3C07FPBJKJ262KB2WD?psc=1
Don't buy the overpriced link cable you can get an equal or greater quality one on amazon for 1/3 the price. I use this. https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B01MZIPYPY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1
Also not the best timing to buy a Quest 2 considering a new headset is reportedly coming out in a few months.
Oh, and if you would want a not as expensive link cable this one works good. It's the one I use about every day for at least 3 months already.
It's not a 'link cable' tie. It's just a velcro cable tie.
That's the cable I use.
Those are similar to the ties I use.
If you have USB 3.0 on your pc, then the following will work:
Cable:
Anker USB C Cable, Powerline USB 3.0 to USB C Charger Cable
Power Injector:
If you only have USB-C output, then I don't think there is any compatible usb-c power injector sadly.
Or, an externally powered USB hub might do better at supplying more power. With usb A type, there are a lot of power injectors available.
Thing is, once you buy those 2 things, you're almost at the cost of buying the official link cable which is way lighter.
I'd recommend searching around for other cables, but this is the one I use. It's a good cable, but for my playspace, I wish it was longer.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MZIPYPY/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_EQCHCGTXCFYAWWRH7SPW
Maybe ur USB isn't supplying enough power. Here is the cable I use https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MZIPYPY?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share Along with these angle connectors https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078YRKTKM?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share You don't need the angle connectors though, optional.
such as this? https://www.amazon.co.uk/Anker-PowerLine-Pull-up-Resistor-Devices-Black/dp/B01MZIPYPY/ref=sr_1_4?crid=18IEHZ0QX9S86&keywords=anker+cable+16ft&qid=1640989204&sprefix=ankler+cable+16+ft%2Caps%2C53&sr=8-4 couldnt find a longer one, 5m/16ft would be nice since thats the length of the official cable.

I personally prefer wireless, but if you want to go wired you can also use a USB to USB-C cable instead. Oculus recommendsthis one but I’m sure there are cheaper ones that work great.
try an anker usb c cable, maybe like this one https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MZIPYPY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I use this one with quest 2, no issues. Anker makes good cables.
I bought the Anker USB 3 to USB C cable and it has worked perfectly. Beware of cheap cables, they don't always reach enough transfer speed (bought 2 different ones which worked but at lower speeds so you can't use the best quality). The Anker one is recommended by Oculus.
Here is Amazon's listing: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MZIPYPY/?th=1
Dette er den jeg kjøpte til Quest 1. Men den er utsolgt nå da, kanskje du finner den et annet sted: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01MZIPYPY/?th=1
Ya, not even sure if your laptop has a network port so connecting to your router may not be possible anyway. Most routers supplied by internet providers have settings you can easily adjust. Just check this out with your provider.
Sounds to me like your best option is going to be to play downstairs with a Link cable or limit your upstairs room to sit down games or ones that do not require a lot of moving around.
Again, you can try Link with your Q2 charge cable to see if it works ok before going out and buying a better 3rd party usb3 cable. I think Oculus recommends the 10ft Anker link cable from Amazon (~$20).

Get the Anker one. Just like the real thing. And won't break the bank when if you break it.
Ok, that may be the problem. Are you at least using the same cable you used in your old computer? I tried every USB-C cable I had before breaking down and buying a new one because none of them worked. It has a specific set of specs it needs to meet. Oculus literally only lists 2 cables as supported: their official link cable from the Oculus Website: https://www.oculus.com/accessories/oculus-link/
and this specific cable from Anker: https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Powerline-Pull-up-Resistor-MacBook/dp/B01MZIPYPY/ref=asc_df_B01MZIPYPY/
That being said, it really could be anything. Link is so touchy. There could be something in your specs you don't know about, there could be a problem with the latest Nvidia drivers. I guess it's probably best you take that Oculus Support Rep up on a ticket to work out the specific problem if that's not it.
Just the brand name
I would recommend you the Anker Powerline USB 3.0 cable https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MZIPYPY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_J4R303G3WP3JJHFECQMH
I have 2 oculus link wires, and the anker one here https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01MZIPYPY/ doesn't have the issue but the 5m kiwi one does
awesome, thanks for the tip
this one, right?

Deal link: Amazon
I bought this cable when the Quest 2 first came out and it works great, but it is way thicker than the official cable. I noticed there are a lot more cables on Amazon now specifically for the Quest 2 so I’d check those out. I got this headstrap recently and it feels better than the elite one imo, distributes the pressure better away from your face, easier to quickly take on and off too.
My story is that there really *are* bad cables out there, even if they seem to work sometimes. I bought some rando one from Amazon that claimed Quest 2 support and while it would work *sometimes*, others it would be laggy or outright disconnect. On a whim, as I had to order something else from Amazon, I bought an Anker cable recommended on the wiki here, and it's been nearly flawless. For shits and grins, I connected it to the extension which came with the other cable I ordered, and the Anker failed when using that as well. So yeah, cables matter.
This Anker one is the one that I use since Oculus themselves recommended it when they didn't have any cables in stock for awhile.
This is the exact cable they recommended from their website on Amazon.
Here's the link to the page where they said they recommended it.
This is the one i have used for over a year with no problems what so ever.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MZIPYPY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
This is the correct cable.
Fairly sure windows is required haven't heard of anyone getting link to work on Linux.
Also while I do own and like the official cable it's only benefit is its length and weight. You can get a cheaper Anker cable and it will be just as good. Oculus even recommends this cable it on their compatability page
If you do got that way just make sure to get some velcro or someway too tie the cable to the headstrap to take tension off the port on the headset.
This is the third party cable oculus recommends.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01MZIPYPY/?ref_=d6k_applink_bb_marketplace
I ordered the USB-C to USB-A Anker cable that they recommend on their Oculus Link support article (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MZIPYPY/) and it fixed this issue for me. Spent at least 3hrs playing various games through Link, and the furthest it got down to was maybe 89% charge (usually stayed in the upper 90% range or fully charged).
Latest firmware v26 seemed to mess up charging the headset over USB-C to USB-C, if it was working before. I'm a brand new Quest 2 owner, so I have no clue if the official Link cable ever charged while playing, but it wasn't for me currently. It will charge a Nintendo Switch though, for example, so it's not the cable, and it's not the port. I'll probably return that cable since I'm in the return window, unless Oculus wants to admit they have an issue and promptly patch it. Real shame, because I do like how long the Oculus Link cable is, the L shape connector, and how generally lightweight and flexible it is.
Update: Got the Anker cable today. USBDeview reports 896 mA power and the Quest 2 seems to be holding a charge so far (it did drop 1% after about a half hour, so might still discharge over time a bit), but I will test more. Bandwidth also seems to be slightly higher at 2 Gbps vs. the 1.6 or 1.7 I was getting on the Oculus Link cable.
Here's the link to the Anker cable if you want to give it a shot: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MZIPYPY/
Note: The longest cable is 10ft, which is 6ft shorter than the Link cable, so maybe buy an extension cable if you need the length. Also check the used cables, if you want to save even more money.
Stay away from the stupidly overpriced official cable.
This works perfectly at a fraction of the cost: https://smile.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01MZIPYPY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
That's unfortunate. Oculus recommended this cable before the official one was ready so I can verify it works. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MZIPYPY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_WSB7S06C8ZXABXQ1571A?psc=1
I use this Anker cable. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MZIPYPY
I also use this extender to get more distance. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0179MXKU8
I have successfully used this combination to play Asgard's Wrath so I know it works fine. The cable without the extender also works fine (but I like the extra distance).
I would recommend the Anker USB C 3.0 10ft Cable
don't buy the cheapest one you can find, people are always having issues and oculus link is finicky. I recommend Anker 10ft or Cable Matters 16ft
Even though it doesn't have a VR link port. You can buy an extender for your pc. You plug it up anywhere on your pc that has a USB 2 port. And then you hook it up to your VR headset. The cost is only 20 bucks.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01MZIPYPY?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Gone up a little bit since I bought it, but this is the cable I use (well I mostly play pcvr wirelessly using software called virtual desktop, but if I plug in I use this)
the link cable is kind of a scam it doesn’t work that well and you would be better off with a Anker usb a to usb c cable with a 15ft usb a extension cable. I had so many problems with the oculus link cable so i just returned it
ok, so I've found 2 cables on amazon, which do you think might be better, This Anker one, or this other brand?
Like a link to the one I have? https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Powerline-Pull-up-Resistor-MacBook/dp/B01MZIPYPY/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=anker+3m+link+cable&qid=1611421391&sr=8-2 I am quite certain that it is this one.

That's the exact one that oculus used to recommend. Same one I use.
These are what I got over a year ago. I can't claim they're still the best choice, but they work perfectly.
You don't need a USB C to C cable. As others have stated, I recommend Virtual Desktop instead BUT not all games work with it so you should have a cable in case you need to use link for those.
I can give a positive review of the Anker one that Oculus recommends. It's a bit thick and a right angled USB C would be better but other than that, it works well.
https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Powerline-Pull-up-Resistor-MacBook/dp/B01MZIPYPY/ref=sr_1_3?
If you need longer, you can get an active USB 3 extension.
https://www.amazon.com/CableCreation-Extension-Extender-Booster-Compatible/dp/B0179MXKU8/ref=sr_1_1?
There is so much wrong about this comment. If you don't know what you're talking about why even post? Everything you said about USB is completely wrong.
For one, the phrase 'a good transfer of bitrates' means absolutely nothing. It's a nonsense phrase made by someone who has no idea what they're talking about. A proper sentence with the random ass jargon you're trying to use would be "USB 3 and 3.1 are the same bitrate so it doesn't effect Oculus performance."
Any USB 3.0 cable will work fine, as long as it is USB C on one end and whatever you can connect to your PC on the other. This is the cable almost everyone buys. If you want a longer cable, just make sure it's USB 3.0 with a type C connector on one end and you should be fine.
Playing Quest 2 over USB or wifi 6 (something he did get right) works well if you don't have a router that supports wifi 6 you can get a tplink one on Amazon for like 70 bucks.
How well it does on Steam VR games depends mostly on how powerful your computer is. As far as I know there are no other devices compatible with the Quest 2 besides a computer or stand alone.
64 gig should be enough, most of the VR games for Quest aren't that big, so 64 gigs can hold quite a lot.
The controllers run off a single AA battery each, they last a long time on those batteries but they will eventually run out and you'll need replacements.
As for modability it depends on what you mean by moddable. There are tons of physical mods you can get for it, prescription lenses, better cushion for your face, that kind of thing. If you mean software, that's where Sidequest comes in. It's not really a mod but it allows you to install apps and games that aren't in the oculus store. You download it to your PC, hook you headset to your PC and you can install it to your headset that way. It has it's own store and a bunch of free stuff too, so it's definitely worth checking out.

This is an extension cord I highly recommend as well(16 ft)
I have a Quest 1 and with an Anker cable I can almost play Squadrons through Steam VR. This is the one I use: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MZIPYPY and it was recommended from the Oculus support site, I think.
I only have a GTX 1060 6gb GPU so the performance isn't great when there's a lot of action on the screen, so I don't use it. I'm looking to upgrade GPUs hopefully soon.
I'm using the Anker cable - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MZIPYPY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
With this powered extension cable - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0179MXKU8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
And this adapter for the headset - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B077XBGN5M/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Again, I've played all of Half-Life: Alyx twice with no problems. Played tons of VR Chat and other VR games and never ran into this issue until recently, after I hadn't used my headset on PC for a while.
This one has been proven to work:

This is what I bought
I’ve gotten this one myself and it works fine https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MZIPYPY?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
I plan on getting this one because I don't have USB c on my computer, and it's like 4x cheaper.
Here’s mine:
It works great, just be aware that the cable is a bit stiff. Got it for $20
I use the 10ft Anker Powerline, which Oculus recommends themselves, along with this 10ft USB 3 extension cable and I've had no problems playing any of my games thru Link. Personally, I find using Virtual Desktop to be a better experience, even tho I experience a bit more latency, I prefer to be untethered.
I have this one, if it helps. Works great but the cable is a little stiff. I hear the official one is a lot less rigid which would be nice
It'll solve the latency. Compression is still visible with default settings, so you'll want to spend some time adjusting those to see what your PC can handle.
I'm using a 10 foot USB 3 Anker cable with a 16 foot CableCreation USB 3 active extender for a total of 26 feet of cable for half the price of the official link cable (although the official cable is a bit thinner and lighter if that matters to you).
Oculus recommends this Anker cable specifically, but any USB 3.0 or later will work, as long as it can support simultaneous data and power.
https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B01MZIPYPY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 BEST CABLE, Cheap and work great too!
Its pretty exspensive but i think this will do the trick : https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MZIPYPY/
I have an i7 3.6 GHz processor and a 2080 Super. And when I bought this PC, I played Metro Exodus for like 2 days, then Skyrim for a month. :) So I feel you. :)
I'm not really interested in the wireless/standalone aspects of it.
Do you think a 64 Gb model with an Anker cable + extender and a head strap replacement would suffice?
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01MZIPYPY/ref=as_li_qf_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=virtua01-21&creative=6738&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=B01MZIPYPY&linkId=0cc1d7039237535a537189e59bee310b
The 10-foot Anker cable is pretty good. I think I’ve even seen Oculus recommend it. It’s $20 at the moment, but every once in a while goes on sale
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MZIPYPY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabt1_IzCXFb700G725?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I can only speak to the Anker one that Oculus suggests [https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01MZIPYPY/]. It works perfectly for me, and I sometimes use it with an active USB 3 extension cable depending on where I'm setting up.
There's no hard and fast USB port standards, but you're right in that blue USB ports are typically USB 3.1 Gen 1, whereas red ones are USB 3.1 Gen 2. You'll want to use a USB 3 cable with either one of these for the best experience, but you can technically use USB 2 cables/ports as well (although I believe that limits you to 72Hz on the Quest 2 currently).
I think the Wiki over on the r/OculusQuest subreddit [https://www.reddit.com/r/oculusquest/wiki/] has a chart of cables that people have used successfully... it's a great resource for not just Link help but all things Quest, so I'd definitely recommend checking that out if you haven't already.
I use the 10ft Anker Powerline. I combined it with a 10ft USB 3.0 extension cable, which is on sale for $8 down from $13 right now. I then also got a right angle USB-C adaptor so the cable points down from the headset instead of straight out. Total cost was like $30 and I have 20ft of cable to play with. I also have a usb 3 hub at the end of the 2 cables so I can have my keyboard, headset/Gamedac and Oculus all connected at once with only one cable running across the room.
Only only one end of the cable needs usb c, for the headset. I personally use a usb a to usb c for mine
Anker USB C Cable, Powerline USB... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MZIPYPY?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
This is the one i use
In addition to what Vsauce said, you don't need a HOTAS to play elite, it'll work just fine with a gamepad.
Here's a USB cable that Kotaku recommends, it's only $20:

And here's the one I use, it's C to C and has a 90-degree angle on one end plus it's braided, $40:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B083DGC3Q3/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

You can easily get by with the 64GB Quest instead of the 256GBmodel. Might as well save the money and just delete installed apps more often if needed. So for US prices, that just saved you another hundred bucks.
Plus, Elite is free on the Epic Games Store this week. Look for it on Thursday and add it to your account, then it's yours forever. So we've reduced the total for the game you want to play, and you don't even need to buy the game. Nice timing! ;-)
Try this anker cable it's usb c on one end and usb a on the other, I use this one personally and it works perfectly. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MZIPYPY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabt1_BiuSFbFWW12E4?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
The Anker Powerline cable that is recommended by Oculus Support is USB 3.0. I know this because I bought one and it works as advertised.
https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Powerline-Pull-up-Resistor-MacBook/dp/B01MZIPYPY
Is this that Anker version? https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MZIPYPY/
sorry to hear that my friend. mine have been working well with only r7 3700x and 2060 super on medium quality with HLa.

i have some recommendations to maybe keep the dream alive.
wish you luck and i hope things get better for you.
I bought an anker one, works fine for link https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01MZIPYPY?ref=pd_basp_dp_primary
Specs are:
Ryzen 9 3900x
RX 5700 XT
32gb ddr4 3200Mhz

Cable I'm using is an Anker one - No Adapters here.. worked great for me so far
https://www.amazon.de/Anker-Powerline-Pull-Up-Widerstand-MacBook/dp/B01MZIPYPY

Port is USB 3.1 (even VR ready written on it)
Yes, you can use an adapter and a "proper" 3M cable is not really expensive unless you have weird cable prices wherever you live.
I have that and it works well. 2.2Gbps transfer speed from the link speed test in the Oculus app.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MZIPYPY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_q9KNFb37X3KSB Thats the one they recommended, But I heard a lot about the party link to
It is a higher quality cable. The Anker 3m cable is also a great choice if you'd like to split the difference between cost and length.
Cable - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MZIPYPY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

2) My IPD is 71 so I use the 3rd setting looks great
3) nope you can use that Anker 10 ft cable works as great as link cable https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01MZIPYPY/
4) yes you can play steamvr games when linked to pc
Anker USB C Cable, Powerline USB... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01MZIPYPY?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
I got his one. Works perfectly
This is what you're looking for. Cable
Worked just fine on my desktop, and tested as USB3 within oculus app with no issue. Be aware though, it's only 10ft long, and it's kind of heavy and stiff, so you can feel it pulling on the headset.
If you want longer, or possibly lighter\more flexible, the official cable will be worth the cost IMO. I imagine you could find a suitable USB-C to USB-A adapter.
Frankly, I would suggest looking into using Virtual desktop with wireless. I set that up last night, and it is amazing. You do need an AC router, and your computer needs to be connected to the router for best results. Here's a guide with all the details.

Edit: spelling and content
I have the Anker usb cable on order from Amazon Canada. Should arrive on Thursday but from what others are saying it works. https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01MZIPYPY/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_BHa1Db2F64253
the amazon link to the Anker product does not longer have the 10 ft available, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MZIPYPY?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
not 100% sure if the smaller ones will have the same specs, the one i got was
A8167011 - USB-C to USB3.0 10ft
Good Luck!
I want to share my experience with Link.
My motherboard has a both USB 3.1 gen 1 and USB 3.1 gen 2 port. I've tested Link with Anker PowerLine USB-A to USB-C (3m, 3.1 gen 2) that Oculus recommended and the CableCreation Active USB-A extension cable (5m,male to female USB-A).
When I tried Link with the Anker cable alone plugged into USB 3.1 gen 2 port, it worked well.
However when I used the CableCreation + Anker combo plugged into USB 3.1 gen 2 port, audio did not work properly.
Then I tried the above combo plugged into USB3.1 gen 1 port, they worked properly without problem.
Anker Powerline (Amazon JP), CableCreation Active Extension Cable (Amazon JP)
My PC:
MSI X470 Gaming Pro
Ryzen 7 3700X
nVidia Geforce RTX 2080
(I've filled in the survey)
This is the one I bought https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MZIPYPY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_PreLFbBHHT8CY?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Planning on getting the oculus quest 2 with 64 gigs of space. Going as cheap as possible here, so I was looking at some 3rd party accessories instead of the oculus ones.
I first looked at the link, and I found the cable listed in this megathread: https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Charger-Powerline-Pull-up-Resistor/dp/B01MZIPYPY/
Does anyone have any experience with this cable? The reviews make it seem pretty good, but also a gamble. Considering this cables price vs oculus' price, I have to consider. Please let me know.

The other thing I was looking for is a 3rd party headstrap. I was originally going to go with oculus' headstrap, but I saw all the photos and reports of it cracking. I have no link for someone to comment on, so I ask if anyone has any good recommendations.

Anyway, I'm really excited for this. Just hoping I don't get any problems with my actual headset.
This one is recommended by Oculus themselves. I have it as well and it works perfectly
https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Powerline-Pull-up-Resistor-Samsung/dp/B01MZIPYPY/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=anker%2Busb%2B3%2Bcable&qid=1603372946&sr=8-3&th=1 I use this one, and it's been recommended by Oculus themselves for Link in the past. The above AmazonBasics cable should work perfectly fine too though
Anker USB C Cable, Powerline USB... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MZIPYPY?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
This is a great alternative to the official cable at a third of the price. USB C to A
Been using it for Link for a few days now with no issue.
I use the 3rd party cable and it works amazing. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MZIPYPY?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Ez, use the recommended cable from them. The 10ft anker powerline cable. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MZIPYPY?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share I use it and it works amazing
Get this one. It's cheapish, high quality, works great. Even has a velcro strip thing to hold the cable to the headset. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MZIPYPY?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
All you need is something cheap like this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MZIPYPY/
Here's the Anker one I got on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MZIPYPY?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share It works perfectly on my Quest 2. I think it's the one Oculus recommends. And it has a velcro strap to secure it to the headset.
Even if it could/should work, it's way too short unless someone plans to just keep their head beside their computer.
You can just buy a regular usb C to usb C or A cable. I have a 10 foot Anker usb C to USB A 3.0 cable and it is fine. This guy:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MZIPYPY/ref=twister_B08GCB1JKV?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I'd recommend going for one of the 16 foot options though if you have a mid (say 8'x7 to 9 feet) or large sized play area.
I purchased the Anker cable from Amazon:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MZIPYPY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Got the 10ft one. Working fine!
I think you'll have to spend more then 20 on it. you don't have to buy the Oculus Link though with the Higher Res and refresh rate coming i'd say it's advisable now where as it probably wasn't before. The Link cable is expensive for reason. It is actually a higher rated cable then most available for consumers.
I think Anker had one thats usable this one i think https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01MZIPYPY/ref=as_li_qf_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=virtua01-21&creative=6738&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=B01MZIPYPY&linkId=0cc1d7039237535a537189e59bee310b
It may not be able to charge the quest at the same time though make sure you get it from somewhere that has a good returns policy
This is the Oculus-recommended third party cable: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MZIPYPY/.
However, after using it for a few hours, I'd recommend either finding a way to strap the cable to the headset so it doesn't stick straight out from the side (the weight is noticeable and annoying), or else get a different cable that has a L shaped connector (like the official Link cable) so it comes out a bit less awkwardly from the headset.
Thanks for the feedback guys, I decided to try out the Quest 2. Going to pick it up in Best Buy in about an hour, I really want to compare the difference with how it plays stand alone, and how it plays with the VR link. I'll provide updates on how I feel about it when I test it out with the cable eraguthorak recommended. (Cable ships to me in 2 days)
Yep! If you are playing over Link, then the headset will draw enough power from the computer that the battery life should be fine for at least several hours. I haven't been able to test it myself in depth, but people have said with the original Quest that Link with third party cables would only drain like 5% battery per hour. Apparently the official ($80) cable will be even better, and actually let you end your Link session with more charge than you started with - but all of that likely depends on what you are doing.
Speaking of the official cable - in its defense, it is a really high quality cable, and Oculus is likely future-proofing themselves for down the road when the Link software is better. This is a third party cable that Oculus actually recommends (and that I got for my own Quest 2) that is much cheaper: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MZIPYPY

I haven't had enough time with the Quest 2 to accurately compare it to the Rift S - it is quite similar (when playing Link), but definitely a bit less comfortable (which the Elite Strap addon will likely help with). It also didn't feel quite as high quality, which I'll temporarily blame on the Link software still being in beta. It's definitely much more like the Rift S than the original Quest.

I'm not sure about software updates/support moving forward for the Rift S, but even the Quest 1 was already getting much more cool stuff (such as hand tracking, which is freakin' awesome btw) than the Rift S, so I wouldn't be surprised if something similar were to happen with the Quest 2 in the next year or so.
I'm pretty sure that displayport to hdmi adaptors will not work, or at least I haven't heard/can't find anyone who has made it work, so the Rift S is probably not gonna work for you.

The Quest 2 that just released is pretty darn good though. You don't need a USB C port to take advantage of Oculus Link and play games off your computer with a Quest, most decent USB A to USB C cables will work just fine (this one is recommended by Oculus as a third party alternative to the official Link cable: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MZIPYPY/)
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MZIPYPY
This is the recommended third party cable (source if ya don't trust me :P https://support.oculus.com/444256562873335)
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MZIPYPY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
This Anker cable is one that I've constantly seen recommended by Quest 1 users, and I ordered one for my Quest 2.
From what I've seen from other users, the official Link cable is the best option, and actually charges your headset despite you using it. Third party cables like this one don't actually give you a positive charge, but it provides enough power that you only drain a few percentage points per hour of use, so it should be fine.
Everyone seems to be recommending these: https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B01MZIPYPY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
No, you need a specific cable. Let me send you a link to a third party one and an official one.
3rd party ($17.99 USD)
1st Party ($79.00 USD)
Return it and just get an A to C cable from anker and save 70 bucks
This is the one Oculus recommends:
You also need a “high speed” cable. I have this one but haven’t tried it yet:
Anker USB C Cable, Powerline USB... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MZIPYPY?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Anker USB C Cable, Oculus said it got good results with their testing https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MZIPYPY/ref=cm_sw_r_u_apa_fab_R5FHFbV8QZ8NF
I have that and it works great. Also have this https://www.amazon.ca/Anker-Powerline-Pull-up-Resistor-MacBook/dp/B01MZIPYPY/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=usb%2Bc%2Banker%2Bcord%2Bquest&qid=1602605663&sr=8-5&th=1. I use both together and i get around 8m or whatever. stupid long and no issues.

This gets you close at a fraction of the cost. Confirmed it works with Oculus as a Link cable.
this is the C to A (lower charging rate): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MZIPYPY/
Congratulations! If you plan on using Oculus Link you should get a new cable that actually supports it. The cable it comes with can technically be used but it slow and you'll get hiccups. Something like this would work. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MZIPYPY/
Oculus recommends this cable: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MZIPYPY/
You could use this:

I would try a short, 10 foot or less cable from Anker.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MZIPYPY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1
I use this with no issues.
You tried the powered USB hub, and with other things plugged in you have issues.
You have any weird USB devices? I'm starting to think your issue revolves around other USB devices/drivers.
I agree. Here is the link.https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Powerline-Pull-up-Resistor-Samsung/dp/B01MZIPYPY/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=Anker%2BUSB%2BC%2Bto%2BA&qid=1602339606&sr=8-3&th=1 It is rated for 5gbs so you will have no issue with data and latency, however, it will not charge the Quest, but delay the death. No word yet on how much power the Quest 2 draws, but I saw a redditor who tested the drain with this cable on his Quest 1, and that after 14 hours it was down to 51%, take it with a grain of salt though, but you should be fine for your gaming sessions. It does charge afterall at 900mAh, although it is considerably less than what USB C to USB C outputs around 2-5Ah. Only annoying thing is it doesn't have a USB C elbow connection, but you can buy a 2 piece adapter pack for like $8 or something.
That one looks to be only 3ft long, the one recommend in uk from the faq is https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01MZIPYPY/ though i personally havent tried it.
I’d suggest just using a USB 3 cable. I bought this cable and this extender and they both work great for not much money.
This is the cable oculus recommends on their website:https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01MZIPYPY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_7J7zFb8644Z8G I havent tried it though as I usd to have the cv1 and now am waiting for the quest 2
this is one but it’s not 16ft but I personally use virtual desktop to stream it from my pc to my headset and it works really well with almost not latency
I just grabbed a braided one from Menards on my way through there because I got tired of using a USB extender with my charger.
A lot of people like Anker tho

RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES please buy them, I don't have a link for them, can't quite find them on amazon, but Panasonic Eneloops are usually recommended, you need a charger for them of course.
And that's pretty much it, there's a video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0B-uy3nwzpU, It's a nice showcase of some of this mods
Short answer, Yes.
Long answer:
Keep your self informed on the current state of the Oculus PC software on what is and isn't supported with the Oculus Quest PC link. (it's as far I know still in beta so things might change)
https://support.oculus.com/release-notes/
Understand the limitations of the USB cable you might want to use and the computer specs required to use the Quest Link.
https://support.oculus.com/444256562873335/
Do your self a favor and get a fully USB 3 supported cable, the difference is not large but from my experience noticeable in a positive way at absolute minimal cost.
The recommended cable by Oculus is regularly on sale at EU amazon.
https://www.amazon.de/Anker-Powerline-Pull-Up-Widerstand-MacBook/dp/B01MZIPYPY/
Honestly, there is no time to give or time frame for that matter. It really is luck of the draw. What I CAN say is that recently Oculus has been restocking the Quest and many other items such as Rift S and original Rift (Refurbished, they use another term for refurbished though), very often as of the last month. I managed to score my Link cable roughly 3 weeks back. So be on the look out. However, before I had the official link cable, I can wholeheartedly recommend this cable from Anker works. Some reviews said it did not for them but most of the reviewers said the same as myself. Works flawlessly. Also, if it doesn't work, just go into orders and "return" it. Anker offer's a full refund and you can most likely keep the cable (mainly because of everything going on). They will simply ask for the serial number to be sent to them via Amazon message or your email and that's that. Free cable if it doesn't work, to use on charging, etc. Here's the link. Note that it's USB-C to 3.0 so USB-A. They have USB-A to USB-C adapter's you can purchase on amazon as well to make it C to C like the Link cable but this is not always necessary and was not for me. Here's the link. It has to be this cable, not the other one's Anker sells. Mainly because this one can hit the 5Gbps. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MZIPYPY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Yup, I did the same. Heres a link for people that dont want to pay $80. It has worked just find for me.
Its $24 on Amazon now.
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MZIPYPY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
NOTE: I do have a standard USB-C cable and that didnt allow me to use the Oculus Link functionality, so there is a difference.
Official cable is on sale at the oculus website but currently out of stock.
The third party cable is at amazon but it’s thick and a bit stiff.
You can also connect wirelessly using software like Virtual Desktop and RiftCat.
>As an alternative what aftermarket cables are recommended. I am in Australia so local links would be helpful!
The official FAQ page recommends this one and even provides a link to the Australian Amazon so my United States-based self could even find it easily, but whatever, there you go.
Alternatively, there is this cable from PartyLink. It's longer, which is good, and it's even USB-C on both sides, but I've heard fucking awful things about the quality and seen multiple pictures of broken cables. I wouldn't recommend it.
Thank you!!
I was thinking precisely to power saving, because in the past I had a problem with a USB device and the disconnection was due to this reason... I just tried the Anker cable and the USB settings are the next step...
The cable is the correct one THIS , I bought it in Germany because amazon Italy had the shorter 2 m one.
Thank you again, I hope it'll work 😁
I got the following items:
https://www.amazon.de/Anker-Powerline-Pull-Up-Widerstand-MacBook/dp/B01MZIPYPY
https://www.amazon.de/AFUNTA-Stecker-Adapter-abgewinkelt-Verl%C3%A4ngerung/dp/B078YRKTKM
There is no Amazon NL, but DE ships to NL for free. Maybe to Italy as well.
If you're sold on the Rift S, then certainly go for it. And don't let anyone tell you what to think on your purchase.
That said I wanted to mention this question...
> Apparently the Quest requires a USB C from the GPU?
It shouldn't require a USB-C connector on the PC, nor a port on the graphics card itself. (Though you should be able to use a GPU cards USB C or VR Link connector if you want) The minimum system requirements list a USB 3.0 connection with the recommendation to use "a high-quality USB C to C or USB A to C cable". So you should be able to use a USB 3.0 A port on any notebook or desktop.
Additionally it's probably worth mentioning the official Oculus Link cable isn't required. (And isn't even out yet anyone trying to tether right now). The Link is a specialized a longer cable (fiber optic), but it's not a requirement to use the Quest. Oculus even links (via Amazon, CDN$ 19.99) to some Anker cables they've tested and confirm works (Which is a USB A to C cable.
It's 10 FT USB 3.0
https://support.oculus.com/444256562873335/
I ordered it from Canada: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01MZIPYPY/
It's being re-stocked in a couple of weeks on Amazon US. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MZIPYPY/
I had the same problem. It really is sort of a mix and match of cables. I actually switched desktops in the last week and went from perfect use with what I had to it works, but very slowly drains power from the headset.
The primary connection I use is the Anker 9 footer: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MZIPYPY
And this is the 5 meter extension that i'm using: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AA0U08M
But like I said, it seems to be a bit touch and go. My old system was a gaming laptop with a NVidea 1080 and the new one is a desktop with a RTX 2080 S, but as I said it's now slowly losing power as I play. Which by what I calculate I'd be able to play for at least 4 hours, probably more.
But assuming you have a fairly open area and the cord can reach from your machine, the anker should do the trick on its own.
Anker Powerline USB-C to USB 3.0 Cable (10ft) https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01MZIPYPY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_xMu5DbP92TTE6 i will gonna try this one
Everyone reccomend this one for link
In the video I linked the reviewer mentioned that he had a tough time finding a cable that worked well, in fact he said he only found one.
So, I would be wary or at least check online to see what cables others are having success with before diving in. Looking at the oculus page they actually recommend the Anker cable
Why do you thing the 10 ft isn't being sold? https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B01MZIPYPY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
There are 10ft (3 meters approx.) cables you can find on Amazon. Not quite 5 metres, but it might do?
Update, I can confirm that the extension cable works. I now have a 26 foot long cable to play my PC VR games with on my Quest using link.

sorry, meant powerline, here you go: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MZIPYPY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_E0DZDbRVTXEW5
The one currently being recommended by Oculus is being sold on amazon here.
The cable isn't going to release for a few months, and in November the only thing starting is the Oculus link "beta". You're going to have to find your own cable to use for the beta. Many of us on here have been trying to figure out which cables are going to actually work and give us the distance we need. After the beta they will release the Oculus Link cable.
I ordered: Anker Powerline USB-C to USB 3.0 Cable (10ft) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MZIPYPY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_FnXRDbYHX0NMH
And
90 Degree USB C Type C Male to Female Adapter, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078YRKTKM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_EoXRDbXSTJ989
But until it actually comes out it's hard to tell what's going to work and what's not going to work.
You want something that would be from a reputable company and is rated for 3.0 or higher. I wouldn't go above 10 ft for a passive cable: https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Powerline-Pull-up-Resistor-MacBook/dp/B01MZIPYPY
Here's a good USB Type-A to USB Type-C cable that supports USB 3.0 speeds: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01MZIPYPY
If you don't care about data and just care about charging, you can get by with a thinner/more flexible USB 2.0 cable that charges just as well, like this: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B019Q6Y2MK
This is a good one. > ~~https://www.amazon.co.uk/Anker-PowerLine-Resistor-Including-ChromeBook/dp/B01MZIPYPY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1514555555&sr=8-1&keywords=Anker+USB+C+to+C+10ft~~
But unfortunately not 10ft.
I got one of these when I brought my Anker battery and it's great.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MZIPYPY/
Link to said cable, it has the 56K resistor.
Search the sub ... there have been dozens of recommendations. Anything more that 10 feet needs to be an ACTIVE cable.
I like this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MZIPYPY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Congratulations on finding a HOTAS
I don't see one in this image, but if you need a USB 3.0 cable to run the game in VR from your PC this one is working great for a fraction of the price for the official Oculus Link cable. They also make a USB C - USB C design.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MZIPYPY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
For any non-cockpit games like Half Life Alyx or BeatSaber I recommend learning how to set up for wireless streaming to your headset, it's a little confusing but it makes a huge difference once you get it right.
>You got numbers for that? I've just had a quick attempt to look but can't find much outside of vague guesses based on limited released information. I think the repeat customers on Quest 3 and 4 (unless Facebook changes their whole strategy again, you never know) are where we'll see.
Yes, we never know how well a platform is doing until it's third or fourth release I guess.

People are buying more software for the Quest because they just. Don't. Like it.
>It literally doesn't. Nintendo don't get people to come back again and again even though they have weaker hardware than the competition with "well received". They make masterpieces.
What competition?
>As above, basically stop making stuff up.
Everyone I spoke to agrees with me.
>I literally went on Amazon and looked at a good few cables that were advertised as being good for Link. Plenty of the reviews on them all talked about problems when first trying the cables or even a few months later.
This is the one I got, which works perfectly. It's also linked to on the Oculus site.
Anker Powerline USB-C to USB 3.0... https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01MZIPYPY?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
This is the one I am using. It's only 10 feet long but it works for my area. I have an active extension cable on the way.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MZIPYPY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 This one works for me, but it's not as long as the Oculus cable and is thicker/heavier
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MZIPYPY/
That's the Anker cable Oculus recommends before their own cable is available.
Like always it depends on the games you want to play and how hardcore you need for maximum performance of graphics, latency, and physical comfort.
Hardcore PCVR users pushing competitive limits in Beat Saber, Multiplayer Shooters, Echo Arena and similar need every millisec of latency and feel every once of weight in long play.
Once you do something like Frankenquest or add counter weights it feels better but rapid head movement isn't as stable as the halo of a Rift S.
I keep my CV1 for some games but most times I use my Quest with Virtual Desktop (not Link) for wireless PCVR connecting.
To address comfort I use and recommend the StudioForm straps. Super cheap to get and just works ... once you get the hang of getting them fitting right.
https://www.androidcentral.com/studioform-creative-quest-deluxe-strap-review
Easy recommendation ... max out your Quest comfort and usage before dropping another bundle of bills.
Cheap to do and it's something good regardless to get the most from that lovely machine.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MZIPYPY/
Anker indicates that these cables are compatible with QC1.0, qC2.0, and QC3.0. Truthfully, any decently built cable should be compatible with those specifications. The differences between them are pretty minimal. Unless the cable is essentially built down to barely meet the original spec, it should handle the current QC spec's just fine. From a current perspective, the difference betweeen 2A and 3A is not that great (unlike 10A) and often is much lower than said peak current. Similarly, the difference between 5-20V is not very big from a cable standpoint (semiconductors on the other hand, that is a HUGE difference). Lastly, the pins on a USB-A plug are MUCH larger than a USB-C plug, meaning their current and voltage handling capacity is much larger.
I understand that this is a premium product specially designed for Link, but I'll honestly be amazed if this sells. Especially when Oculus themselves also recommended a different cable that was 1/5th the price. I don't care what the cable's made of, $80 is way too much. But I'm sure someone will buy it anyway. Better be a damn good cable.
