This means that as long as you are using a type-c to type-c charger or a type-a to type-c charger that uses a cable that 100% sure has the 56k ohm resistor then most probably you are fine with any kind of dock.
Of course do not take this as a promise from my side and use these docks at your own risk, but as far as we know this is the actual issue behind the bricked Switches (and many bricked USB-C laptops).
Amazon points out if a cable has the necessary resistor, for example: https://www.amazon.com/Charger-Anker-PowerLine-Pull-up-Resistor/dp/B01E9W8KYC/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1527282413&sr=8-3&keywords=56k+ohm+resistor+usb+c
Don't use that
I'd say go with the OEM (Samsung ones) or Anker fast charge ones
USB C Charger, Anker PowerLine USB C to USB 3.0 Cable (6ft) with 56k Ohm Pull-up Resistor for Samsung Galaxy Note 8, S8, S8+, S9, MacBook, Sony XZ, LG V20 G5 G6, HTC 10 and More https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01E9W8KYC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_Z-wJBb4B3SRQ3
Btw I don't think Samsung fucked us
I'm glad we have type C it's Innovation it's the future
Usb c is better in every way except cost for now
Hey there! While we do recommend the Oculus Link Cable for the optimal experience with Oculus Link, it is not required. Results can vary with third-party cables, but we have tested the Anker cable internally with good results. You can go here to find one on Amazon (US). Thanks!
Np, here the link for the cable that I use, it works really well. Might want to get a bigger size though, I recommend 10 feet.
Anker USB C Cable, Powerline USB 3.0 to USB C Charger Cable (6ft) with 56k Ohm Pull-up Resistor for Samsung Galaxy Note 8, S8, S8+, S9, Oculus Quest, Sony XZ, LG V20 G5 G6, HTC 10 and More https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01E9W8KYC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_fabc_Hqk.FbTRDACHT
I personally use VD 95% of the time, but every once in a while you may come across games that just don't have compatibility with VD and now with the v23 Link update the image quality can beat out VD if you have a beefy graphics card. For seated or standing games with no roomscale I think the wire tradeoff isn't the end of the world, like with Moss or Hellblade. But I also don't think the $90 official cable is worth that price if it isn't your primary source, I just use the $12 Anker cable for my purposes and it works fine.
https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Charger-Powerline-Pull-up-Resistor/dp/B01E9W8KYC/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?adgrpid=89588682619&dchild=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwpNr4BRDYARIsAADIx9wEbiDMilYdbAK0opahe0wrCda-egl6w64l5LjmvdtiYQbonr_UVNYaAqxeEALw_wcB&hvadid=4111244... I use this one daily, and no cable will break anything.
It doesn't come with a cable to connect it to your PC - but doing it through airlink is better.
I use this cable to connect it to my PC (Had to add custom songs to beat saber!) - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01E9W8KYC?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details
The Quest 2 comes with:
Quest 2 (USB c-USB c & a wall plug)
Charger
Facial Interface (A must - the default cushion stuff itches like hell)
Two controllers
I think I am forgetting something?
Yes.
The game is running off your PC, so you're no longer using the Quest Version. Assuming you're running the Steam version, the game doesn't even know/care what headset you're running at all--SteamVR handles that.
You don't even need the expensive link cable. You can do it wirelessly, or if you are like me with a bad router placement, just buy any old USB-C 3.0 cable. This is the one I use (Not Affiliate, just a random link) and it's actually one Oculus used to recommend on their website.
I didn't actually even like OTV's, they sold me an A to C cable multiple times saying it was 3.0 but it was only 2.0.
That said, I went through this last month, I literally could not find an A to C cable that was 3.0. They are all 2.0 "charge cables" (which shouldn't exist imho, they should all be 3.0, especially the C to C cables).
If you look online on amazon, Anker powerlines are good and UGreen cables are good.
This is what I went with Anker USB C Cable, Powerline USB... https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01E9W8KYC?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Ultimately I can't wait for memory express, I really hope they expand here.
Anker Powerline supports fast charging. Theoretically it shouldn't. But mine shows 'Charging rapidly' and takes the same time as the original cable. Not sure if it's bad for the battery or not. Note, I'm using the original dash wall charger. Cord is this one. It's longer too, 6 ft.
I recommend this cable over any other cable, oculus also says "if you cant afford our brand cable this is the next best option the cable they recommend, do 6ft or more for good movement
Edit: hope this helps you out a bit
The other comment is good advice on how you stream, I would also Google just to make sure you have steps. Also the link cable is good for games like Star Wars: Squadrons, but you don’t need the official Oculus one. The one I linked below is the one I have I think. Works just as well. The 10ft version is only $20 lol.
https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Charger-Powerline-Pull-up-Resistor/dp/B01E9W8KYC
So I swapped out my new braided usbc cord (that came in multi pack) for a more solid anker plastic cord (something similar to this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01E9W8KYC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_MCu6FbYVFC5V8?psc=1). I think that may have fixed it. Going to do longer drive test tomorrow, but could be cord quality.
Updating OS/FW was a bust since I may need 32gb SD card to update and can't find how to access SD slot for my car.
What kind of cord are you using?
One of the proven alternatives to the Oculus Link Cable.
This one cost less than a quarter the price of the official cable for example:
Oculus Link is free you just need a USB 3.0 cable which are like $12
This USB cord worked for me on both a PC with a 1060 card / USB 3.1 port and a 1660 card / USB 3.0 port. Pleased it worked on the latter as the mobo was from 2011.
They recommend one that has a 56k ohm resistor, this is one example.
Additionally, you should check the voltage and amps of your wall outlet to USB A port. If it’s too low your switch will charge very slowly.
Anker Powerline USB-C to USB 3.0 Cable (6ft) with 56k Ohm Pull-up Resistor for USB Type-C Devices Including Samsung Galaxy S8, S8+, MacBook, Google Pixel, Nexus 6P, LG V20 G5, HTC 10 and More https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01E9W8KYC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_Fs-oCbZTBTBQF
Yeah I read that but it didn't exactly answer all of my questions. :p
The "best" category seems like it would be impossible to get with a simple cable right?
This one has 56K but no mention of volts or amps: https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Charger-PowerLine-Resistor-Nintendo/dp/B01E9W8KYC/ref=pd_sbs_147_8?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B01E9W8KYC&pd_rd_r=52c93943-c745-11e8-ad62-fd95c25bf5ca&pd_rd_w=FImAx&pd_rd_wg=5tBBF&pf_rd_i=desktop-dp-sims...
In general, if it can provide 5v with 3A and has 56K, this should be enough to charge in most instances if connected to a desktop PC right?
has a few "bubbles" in it? what does that mean?
OP wouldnt cover the cables, especially since you bought it secondhand, but good usb cables are pretty cheap. A cable like this would work great for your phone: https://www.amazon.com/Anker-PowerLine-Resistor-Including-ChromeBook/dp/B01E9W8KYC/
Get an Anker on Amazon. Works perfectly fine at a fraction of the cost.
Hey there! We recommend the official Oculus Link Cable for the optimal experience using Oculus Link, but it's not required. For a more affordable third-party cable, we have tested the Anker cable internally with good results. You can go here to find one on Amazon (US). Thanks!
From what I have heard and personally experienced, Anker cables are great and I've never had an issue with them.
(Canadian amazon links lol sry if you are American / any other country)
https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Charger-Powerline-Pull-up-Resistor/dp/B01E9W8KYC I have this one, works great. Also isn't $80.
Oculus Quest 2 is good. You can use it standalone or buy a link cable to play PCVR if you have a good enough PC. But don't buy the official Oculus link cable. You can find one that works the same, if not better, for cheaper. The stock head strap thingy isn't very good. I personally have the elite strap and it's still good for me, but plenty of other people have had it break.
Accessories I can recommend:
https://us.vrcover.com/products/facial-interface-foam-replacement-set-for-oculus%E2%84%A2-quest-2-standard-edition The stock interface thing is also kinda uncomfortable and this comes with other things you might want/need. A lens protector or whatever you wanna call it so when you're not using the headset you can just put that on and nothing can easily get into that part. Also blocks the lenses from sunlight if needed. It also came with a microfiber cloth to clean the lenses. There's also a nose piece you can put on or take off if you want. Also easier to clean than the stock one
Battery pack if you plan on using it for like more than 2 hours on standalone. Also gonna need something to hold the battery pack.
Maybe find a 3rd party strap if you don't wanna risk a broken elite strap. Or if you do wanna risk it try to get the battery elite strap so then you don't have to buy a battery pack. If it does break, email Oculus. They're pretty good about actually responding and sending replacements. In my experience at least. But sending replacements in a good amount of time, well they took nearly a whole month just sending 1 controller back to me.
3rd party link cable if your computer is good enough to run VR. I have this one and it works pretty good https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Charger-Powerline-Pull-up-Resistor/dp/B01E9W8KYC
Other than all that stuff, the Quest 2 is pretty durable and good.
You do have to be careful buying cables. Nintendo says that if you use a USB-C cable with a 56K OHM resistor that it would not harm the switch.
One on my wishlist on amazon is: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01E9W8KYC/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_6?smid=A294P4X9EWVXLJ&psc=1
Their own cable has the 56K resistor, so if you purchase a cable that specifically states the 56K, then you should be good!
The V20 supports the Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 standard, so any charger that meets that will charge your phone as fast as possible.
I am not sure how Amazon UK selection compares with Amazon US, but a quick search for "Quick Charge 3.0 charger" brings up several good options. The Aukey and Anker brands are reliable and priced fairly.
As for cables, Anker Powerline and Powerline+ cables are reviewed well, and have served me well.
you can get a different charging port - I have this one https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01E9W8KYC?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details
You need a cable capable of USB 3.0 or higher speeds. Quest 2 can use USB 2 at reduced quality, but I believe the Quest 1 still requires a high speed cable.
The charging cable included is only rated at USB 2.0, as are most USB-C charging cables.
The cheapest solutions are to either buy an Anker cable, or to purchase and use Virtual Desktop.
FYI: AirLink requires a 5GHz Wifi Network and is an experimental feature — You must enable it in both Quest settings and the Oculus desktop app settings, and it'll disable itself on the desktop every 24 hours or so (last I checked).
Get a third party one like this:
All it has to be to work with link is usb 3.0 or 3.1 (works with usb 2.0 too)
The Oculus site suggests Anker cables. This one is cheap and worked for me:
https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Charger-Powerline-Pull-up-Resistor/dp/B01E9W8KYC?th=1
I use this cable. Works fine for me and I believe it was the mist commonly used cable for oculus link before they released their own.

is there any reason this cable would be a bad idea or no good for keyboards? building one and need a quality cable.

I use this one, works great.
https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Charger-Powerline-Pull-up-Resistor/dp/B01E9W8KYC
This one is good. I use it and I like it, not too expensive either.
I just got one of those myself, same scenario. The cloud key is very picky about what power input it takes, I a post somewhere else that said to use these:
I use these personally with my cloud key gen 2 plus and it works great, no issues.
Hey there! While we do recommend the official Oculus Link Cable for the optimal experience using Oculus Link, it is not required. The Charging Cable will work for Link, but won't be able to provide a great experience given it's length and only being USB 2.0. For a more affordable third-party cable, we've tested the Anker cable internally with good results. You can go here to find one on Amazon (US). Thanks!
get something like this for ur quest. trust me when I day it’s an lifesaver
Hey there! For third party cables, we have tested the Anker cable internally with good results. You can go here to find it on Amazon (US). Thanks!
Hey there though I might pop in, you don't need a link cable any third party one works, these are ones I use (Other reason most low end PC'S don't have a Type C cable the one the link cable uses, and adding a add-on USB C card is normally about 30 bucks.
https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B01E9W8KYC?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
The cable it self ^
https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0179MXKU8?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
And extender cable for something like room scale PCVR
Edit: Both cables must be USB 3.0 or higher
https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B01E9W8KYC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
That's the one I use, it might be a little short but the longer one was out of stock for me. I'm pretty sure it's the one they recommend on their site
Hey there!
Yes, the 1660 Super is supported for Oculus Link. You can find the full list for Oculus Link compatibility here.
We recommend the Anker cable as an alternative for Oculus Link - they have USB-A to USB-C cables as an option as well. Here's an example (US)
Thanks!
from what i've read online this cable does good and is few times cheaper
You have to have the oculus desktop app installed, then use a supported link cable. You have several options, but the 2 main ones are the ANKER Powerline and Official Link Cable. The Anker is cheaper and delivers similar performance, but it is shorter and less flexible than the official link cable.
Anker powerline - 10-20$ (10$ for the barely usable 3 foot version)
Official Link Cable - 80$
im leaning towards no, usb 2.0 should be just regular usb-a, not usb-c. you probably need something like this
I have a Quest 1 and I love it, but to be honest I can't recommend the Quest 1 over the 2, the 2 it's just way too good. But well, if you want to use it mainly for Link (PCVR) it could be a good option (I use it for both). Just try to go for a Quest 2 and if it's imposible just go for the 1, it's technically obsolete but it's still a really good VR headset.
Also for PCVR I really recommend the 2 m Anker cable + 5 m CableCreation extention, it's 7 m, the quality is really good and it's way cheaper than the official Link cable, here are the links for you to check it out:
Yes.
However, THE QUALITY OF THE CABLE IS REALLY REALLY IMPORTANT.
I cannot tell you how much I struggled with thesecables when they were harder to come by. Bad ones will burn themselves out before long. https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Charger-Powerline-Pull-up-Resistor/dp/B01E9W8KYC?th=1
Is the recommended cable. This cable is fantastic; I no longer use link, but I am using this cable for my audio interface which is also c to a.
Every 3.0 usb c to a should be 5gbps NOT 5GB/s; these are different.
Note that there are different grades of cable and they can be identified by the stupid 'speed' brainding. Superspeed = 5gbps. Superspeed+ = 10gbps. There are not really any A to C cables capable of superspeed+. The onesided contacts deny the full bandwidth and limit it as a rule.
If it does not say superspeed, do not buy.
Link pushes so much data, if you start having problems, expect a cheaper cable to get fried. I had several fail. This anker one is great, though, and I thought the first one I got did; they replaced it p willingly, so they have really good customer support, and I am not one to say that often. They want a good review in exchange so I guess it wasn't free, but hey, fast replacement without needing to return is a good review in my book, especially since it worked great and was my error.
Search amazon for anything by Anker and you are good :)

This one is actually recommended by Oculus and its what I have
Should this charger do the trick? https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01E9W8KYC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It would but the problem is your sacrificing visual quality. I’d actually suggest getting this https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Charger-Powerline-Pull-up-Resistor/dp/B01E9W8KYC/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=anker+powerline+oculus+link&qid=1597274249&sprefix=anker+powerline+oc&sr=8-3
This effectively gives you 22 ft of cord so plenty of space to move around compared to the charging cables 10 ft, as well as being usb 3.0 for better quality and only being $30 in total
The recommended ones have a 56k Ohm resistor inline, but I think that only affects charging and not data but I'm not sure.
https://www.reddit.com/r/NintendoSwitch/comments/abpe7w/can_i_use_any_usb_c_to_charge_my_switch/
If you hit up Amazon and search "switch usb-c" you'll find compatible ones, and they won't be any more than a regular USB-C to USB-A cable. Anker or Aukey are good brands.
https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Charger-Powerline-Pull-up-Resistor/dp/B01E9W8KYC
You can probably use the charging cable that comes with the Quest, as long as that laptop has a USB-C port. It's USB2, which is all you need for Sidequest.
And if you can't use that cable, you can get one on Amazon for like 10 bucks. Here's the one I bought: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01E9W8KYC
So the official cable is not out yet, but for now people recommend this one: https://uploadvr.com/oculus-link-recommended-usb-cable/
It looks like the longer version is out of stock but this is the product: https://www.amazon.ca/Charger-Anker-PowerLine-Pull-up-Resistor/dp/B01E9W8KYC/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=Anker+Powerline+USB-C+to+USB+3.0+Cable+%2810ft%29+with+56k+Ohm+Pull-up+Resistor.&qid=1576074908&sr=8-1
My boys and I have 3 Nintendo Switches. Not sure what cables are "best" but this is what we use and we've had zero issues with them.

We have these Anker cables that work great with our switches and we use them in the house:https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01E9W8KYC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
And also these Aukey 90 degree cables, that we use with out switches in the car:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07N7Z38ZH/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The 90 degree cables are awesome by the way, the cable stays out of the way and almost never gets snagged/pulled out of the switch.

I see you picked one from Anker.
If you don't mind the price hike, I can also recommend this one from Anker with Power Delivery (rather than Qualcomm QC 3.0):
I have two of these.
The advantage is that the PD USB-C port allows you to power USB-C hubs such as these https://www.amazon.com/ATZEBE-Compatible-MacBook-Adapter-Ethernet/dp/B07H6996RW/ , which can in their turn fast charge the V20 while being attached to peripherals. QC does not work for this scenario.
Downside is that the required USB-C to USB-C cable is more expensive and less common to find. A USB 2.0 cable is sufficient, btw.
Oh you’re right. So this would be appropriate for charging then?
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01E9W8KYC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_20LYAb8J03A9S
Oh you’re right. So this would be appropriate for charging then?
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01E9W8KYC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_20LYAb8J03A9S
You can use the charging block with a separate USB-C cable like this one. But it will charge the Switch slower than using the regular AC adaptor for the Switch.
I recommend Anker cables, nice design and very reliable. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01E9W8KYC/
Trying to pull the trigger on a USB-C cable as I am on the road quite a lot. For the cable Reddit likes the Anker PowerLine USB-C to USB 3.0 Cable. I will probably go with the 6 foot cable so it is easy to play from the bed.
It also looks like I am going to need to pick up a new wall charger, Anker seems like the best option?
Question about the 5 port version, will that work with normal USB to Lightning cables for my iphone?
I actually checked again and I have an answer for you! For QC3 I used the following cable: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B01E9W8KYC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
For QC2 I used the OEM cable and power brick.
I just made the switch to all Anker cables after my Powerocker cable started acting funny. Quick charge all the time now, no issues so far. My BF also uses these on his Pixel and his USB-PD works as well.
I have both the Unicorn Beetle case and Spigen Neo Hybrid case.
Neo Hybrid is good if you're looking for a bumper with added grip on the back. I wanted something slim, but with a vertebrae since one-piece TPU cases tend to stretch out over time. Survived a couple drops with the scars to prove it. Big holes over both ports that I haven't had issues with yet. I really like this case.
Unicorn Beetle is my I-might-drop-this-on-concrete-today case. It's basically an Otterbox Defender, but half the price. Plus I carry my phone in my back pocket and after getting caught in the rain a couple times I decided I wanted a case with port covers. Also haven't had issues with port holes on this one. My only problem with this case is that my dinky little magnetic car mount (with the disk insert) sometimes has problems holding on to it. But I expected that to happen with a much denser case. (Also side note, this case comes with a built-in screen protector, like the Defender. I ripped that out before installing since they get lint stuck under them.)
All on Amazon. I'll link when I get on my PC.
I bought an anker USB-A to USB-C cable on Amazon that said it has a 56k ohm resistor in it. They made it sound like a good thing, but just wanted to check with you guys to see if I bought the wrong thing.
Edit: link to item. Anker PowerLine USB-C to USB 3.0 Cable (6ft) with 56k Ohm Pull-up Resistor for USB Type-C Devices Including the new MacBook, ChromeBook Pixel, Nexus 5 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01E9W8KYC
Since you live en Finland, it shouldn't be too much of a hassle to order from the english amazon, where I'm fairly sure that you can get a 3m usb A-C cable from
