If you want to read a great book or two, try to grab a copy of anything Al Bean has written. He was the LMP on Apollo 12 (4th dude to walk on the Moon), and he goes into great length about how awesome they all got along.
In addition to Al Bean being the fourth man on the Moon, he also commanded the SkyLab III mission, and is an amazing artist. I have a couple of his paintings hanging on my wall in fact. He is just a straight-up, honest guy, and if you look at the cover of one of his books, showing a painting he did of the three of them together on the Moon (even though Gordon, the CMP, did not get to land), you can see that he, Conrad, and Gordon were not just merely assigned crewmates, but became truly great buddies, and stayed that way. They loved working together, and all have acknowledged they had a great time together training for and exploring the Moon. No crew was closer to each other during Apollo than those three great guys. Their personalities just meshed perfectly.
