I am currently doing a Masters in Research Methods in Psychology, which I hope will prepare me adequately to do a PhD in the future. My course requires me to be pretty spot on it in statistics department, so if you'd like to PM me I am happy to share resources that have helped me immensely (that are specific to my university and written by my lecturers). I can't recommened an MSc enough as prep for a doctorate...but then again I have spent £4k on it so I guess I have to. :)
Anyway, Andy Field's books gave me my first real grounding and love of stats, followed by this textbook once I got to the more advanced methods: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/0470711175?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage
http://www.statisticshell.com/ provides videos, SPSS data sets and instructions for practicals, and has tiered levels tailored to competence.
I also have knowledge of LISREL and path analysis which I'd be happy to pass on if those are topics you want to cover.
Good luck!
