Same thing happened to me when I moved to DC a couple months ago. It made my skin so dry that I started developing eczema on my eyelids which was super painful and a bit scary looking.
Another redditor on this sub recommended this water filter for my shower and it’s been a huge help for my skin! Super easy to install as well
>If it is hard water, installing a soft water filter is not an option.
Do you know about these $20 showerhead filters?

My advice is just my opinion and based off what I do to make my thick wavy hair look good.
Buy a shower filter Makes a slight difference in water quality and I’ve noticed for sure helps my hair not be so puffy and broken.
Quit combing and brushing your hair. You’re killing your natural curl pattern like that. Stick to fingers and only fucking w it at the root.
I use conditioner literally every time I shower on my ends. I use Shea moisture strengthen n restore conditioner. I have more of a problem with dry hair and scalp and this helps. I only use the Shea moisture shampoo every maybe four or so days when I feel like I need it.
I use Shea moisture strengthen n restore leave in conditioner like 15min after getting out of the shower every time I shower and I just lift my ends with it with a gentle scrunch and kind of pat the sides and top w it being careful to cause loose strands.
I use Shea moisture 100% pure Argan oil after w the same lifting ends and patting method.
After I do that I let my hair air dry and just go about my day and it’s on god mode every fucking day. Im a bartender at an outdoor bar in humid ass Austin tx and it still looks fire even after an entire 8hrs of getting drunk and flirting with chicks haha. I’m not a hair stylist or anything so I’m not sure if this will work for you but you can get all these products at target, the ingredients list seems to be clean as FUCK. And I’ve tried a bunch of different shit and this routine seems to be a fucking KEEPER for my hair. Some people say that might be too much conditioner but I’ve never had healthier, cleaner hair than I do now. Cheers man.

Speaking of the shower, do you live in an area with hard water? My skin was brittle and itchy until I learned about hard/soft water. I kept buying all these moisturizers and still nothing. If you do live in an area with hard water, this filter might be a great option to install onto your shower head. It’s definitely helped me :) Ashy arms and legs no more!
Personally, I don't like the berkey shower filter- that's if you can even find it in stock. I use this Aquabliss one and usually replace it every few months b/c my city water is bad.
I don’t know about the one linked above, but this one is much more affordable. I’ve had one for years, works like a charm if you change the filter every 6 months or so. Yes, you do have to remove the shower head to install. Have you tried using a pair of pliers on your shower head? It could just have some plumber’s tape on the threads that you need to break.
Do you have hard water? If so, I recommend this and changing the filter every 6 months. It’s really made a difference for my hair.
I like this one:
AquaBliss High Output... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MUBU0YC?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
And I change the filters every 6 months. Have them on subscribe & save so I don’t forget. I also wash ~1x/month with Malibu C hard water shampoo which helps (but is harsher/drying so I use it when I deep condition my curly hair)
I haven’t done a water test yet! I’ll do one soon and let you know
I use this water softening shower head with filter, and it’s made a big difference.
as shower filter like this is what I use, and it does the job for at least feeling waxy hair after showering vs feeling clean. My water id like 8.14 units on the hard water rating, so moderately hard. Any of the recommended popping up to compete I think are good enough starters to go with.
I use this hard water filter from Amazon. It definitely helps, although it does lower the water pressure coming out of the shower head slightly.
My face doesn’t have any itching when I wash it in the morning. The state I live in has hard water too so I bought a shower filter a couple years ago. However, I just replaced it last month. It says to replace it every 2-3 months. Maybe I should find another one to use?
I have this shower head filter and like it a lot. You can also use a chelating shampoo to remove the hard water ions (I use about once a month) although it is drying so I usually do some deep conditioner after.

I thought your link was for the Aqua Bliss one which is what I use. I am considering adding another filter (they can stack) for chlorine like the one you linked.
This is the one I have. I have a detachable shower head (the big spray part with a hose, not the stationary head) and I noticed no difference in pressure, but my pressure isn’t intense or anything. I keep my shower head on a high pressure nozzle (instead of the rain setting) and haven’t had issues, but if you are extra sensitive to pressure and don’t have an adjustable nozzle, it might decrease the pressure? The documentation with the filter says it shouldn’t reduce water pressure, but based on the shower head I can’t guarantee that it doesn’t. It just doesn’t noticeably reduce mine.
My very fine, thinning, super oily and very long (lower back long) hair has movement and volume compared to my hair without the filter. It also doesn’t look as oily as fast and the hair I lost (an alarming amount) is growing back in. I don’t use a volume shampoo because they seem to dry out my hair and make it feel rough, nor do I use much product on my hair as I don’t really leave the house much, but I don’t need to use a clarifying shampoo in my hair nearly as often.
If the filter I have interests you, feel free to ask as many questions as you have - I was desperate when I bought it so I just bit the bullet, but I wish there was more info on the filters as attempting to research with reviews that aren’t catered to me and sometimes seem promotional was the worst. I’m happy to help you decide based on my experience

Here’s the link to purchase the one I own!
I use shea moisture, usually only need to use conditioner to detangle and the smoothie to finger twist each curl while in the shower. The water just feels better on my skin, so it's been so worth it. I Also used the demineralizing shampoo and conditioner once to reset my hair... I think just the filter with all the buildup may not do the trick, but YMMV.
My experience: I installed it super easily, no tools needed. It even came with a large roll of teflon tape to wrap on the threads to avoid leaks, so I was very happy with it!

You can get water softeners like the one I have that you can just insert into the circuit.
Have you ever used a shower filter for your shower head? My partner will get a really red splotchy face if he takes a shower without the filter.

So I’ve been living in my house for 20 years and started to experience exactly what you have. I put this in my shower and it went away. Water treatment facilities are constantly changing their chemicals which may interact with other product(s) you use.
Hi I have this aqua bliss shower filter it’s really easy to install and lasts about 6 months before you need to replace the cartridge. You just have to insert it into the circuit the best place is between where the water comes out and the hose attaches but you can also place it between the hose and the shower head. Don’t have to worry if your in a rental or anything because it’s not a big modification or anything.

I've heard these things can help a lot.
I had the same exact issue plus my skin was suffering (bad acne). I have been using this filter in my shower and it has worked wonders for me and my fiancé! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MUBU0YC/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_api_glt_fabc_GT91DH202P6MRSH0ECXQ?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Highly recommend! We’re going to get a whole house water softener but the prices are astronomical right now
I’m not sure, but I have well water and it has a lot of minerals in it. I read of someone else having success with a filter for their hair loss, so I figured why not try it. I have hair loss as well, I’m hoping the filter helps with that, but it’s obviously too early to tell. This is the one I got.
I am at my wits end with products. Really hoping someone can recommend something that will work out.
I have straight fine hair, and very hard water. I tried a water softener in the shower head and it just made my hair feel rubbery and sticky. I tried malibu hard water shampoo and it made my hair feel gummy like the product stuck to it and was greasy and thick. So far the ONLY thing that made my hair feel ok was washing it with distilled water which is A) cold and B) unsustainable long term. I get bad split ends and the hair at the back of my neck matts really easily like theres a lot of friction.
I wash 1-3 times a week, depending on what I'm up to. Right now for shampoo I alternate between a locally made shampoo bar and neutrogena cleansing shampoo which seems to work ok. I'm looking for a really good friction reducing conditioner to help my hair feel silky and light, and so far what I've tried is just missing the mark. I'm so tired of buying product after product only to use it a couple times then have an entire bottle of stuff left. Ugh!
Type 4 hair isn't "dry" but it just doesn't have the right amount of water in it than it "should" have based on humidity...not everyone with type 4 hair needs more water in their hair. It mostly depends on where you live and the relativ humidity. So you could be right. Water could help some people, however when you rinse your hair with water, you have no control over how much you want in your hair and you could wind up using too much. So, all in all, you could lightly spritz it with water. Okay LushLoxx. But the biggest problem with this is the WATER itself. If it's hard, it can damage your hair. If it' soft, it can wind up causing grease. You need it to be PERFECT for your hair. If anyone wants to rinse their hair with water, they should always use this special shower filter so they don't damage their hair.
We use this one from Aqua Bliss and just buy it on Amazon.
Sorry, dumb question. Never had a water softener. Only lived in one place with terrible water.
I tried searching for water softeners and most of the "solutions" were several hundred. This is the only thing I found that was cheaper, but I'm not confident it would work (as opposed to just rapidly filling up.
It’s very important to use water both on our hair and to drink lots of water for healthy hair. I also live in an area with very hard water which was tough on my hair and skin. Ended up buying this shower filter and it’s been really helpful -
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MUBU0YC?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
That's super interesting, my first instinct is to tell you that due to the mineral smell, maybe you need to use it more frequently to loosen up the buildup? But that's purely conjecture, maybe reach out to Malibu C and see what they recommend in that instance.
This is the water filter I use, I don't have blonde hair but do have crazy amounts of iron in my well water. This filter made my hair more manageable and even stopped the iron staining in my bathtub, so I'm a big fan.
We have hard water; I have one of these on the shower head and it helps a lot.
This is the one that I got and have been happy with so far. Disclaimer: I’ve only had it since early 2020. But the reviews are pretty decent and I did see a noticeable difference right away
AquaBliss High Output... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MUBU0YC?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Very hard. It makes your hair flat and heavy and your skin dry. You will definitely need one of these shower heads!!
It was the one that was the highest rated on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/AquaBliss-Output-12-Stage-Shower-Filter/dp/B01MUBU0YC/ref=mp_s_a_1_1_sspa?dchild=1&keywords=shower+head+filters&qid=1617737172&sprefix=shpwerhead+&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUExO...
Seemingly unrelated, I got this filter and I think my hair seems less frazzled ? I have some fairly unruly waves. I did it more so to help save my hair after it was damaged and I lost a lot of hair from a stylist who I thought knew what she was doing :|
Now that you mention the moving, mine has seemed to be triggered in the past by moving. Not sure if it’s the stress or the change of environment that spurred it though.
My partner moved in with me from out of state and she had similar issues. I bought this shower filter from Amazon and it worked great. https://www.amazon.com/AquaBliss-Output-12-Stage-Shower-Filter/dp/B01MUBU0YC/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=shower+filter&qid=1609780811&sr=8-5
If you have a home you own, you can get a water softener added to your home system instead.
I live in the desert with HARD, hard water and bought this shower head filter to help with that!
I’m currently working in salon as an apprentice to get my license so I’m still learning but this is everything I’ve learned so far!
Trimming is definitely necessary, even if you buy some basic shears and dust off tiny split ends yourself.
Sulfate free shampoo is a must. Only wash your scalp, you don’t need to aggressively scrub the ends of your hair as much, rinsing the shampoo from your scalp is all they need.
Make sure you’re drying your hair by squeezing it with a T-shirt or microfiber towel, rough towel drying is the culprit for a lot of dry-frizzy hair issues.
I saved the best for last. :P 80% of the US has hard water which affects your skin and hair a lot more than I realized. I bought a shower head water filter on amazon and I’m SHOCKED at how much of a difference it has made. After a few weeks my hair and skin is the softest it’s ever been!
This is the one I bought if you’re curious. Hope this helps!

I have hard water and this hair AquaBliss High Output Revitalizing Shower Filter - Reduces Dry Itchy Skin, Dandruf... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MUBU0YC/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_c_api_i_u40gEbMWQPSVK This amazon filter is pretty decent for hard water and easy to install . Since I have low water pressure to begin with ( when I remove it )i have rinsie my hair with a couple of Tbs apple cider vinegar in an old water bottle and it's helped
A few things could be helping!
Spending time in the sun! UV rays are anti-bacterial and can reduce acne for some people. Not always a recommended treatment, because UV rays have their own cons that aren't (sun damage, skin cancer) especially when using tretinoin which makes your skin more sensitive to the sun.
Salt water can also have anti-bacterial properties, which could be helping with your skin.
The water from the sink/shower/faucet could be a better fit for your skin than the water back home. For example, maybe you have hard water at home (a common cause of skin problems) and your vacation house had softer water. You can check the typical hardness of your water on this website here. I would look up where you vacationed and compare. This one is tricky, because it's difficult to get soft water if you live in a hard water area. If you live in an apartment your only option is to get something like a shower stick for your shower. If you live in a house, a water softening system can be installed to your main water supply. The downside is it's hard to tell exactly how soft your water will end up being with these filters. It's a spectrum! On another related note, it might be worth trying a cheaper shower filter that installs onto your shower head. Something like this. This will not soften your water, but will help filter excess minerals and chlorine. It might help! You can also buy a jug of distilled water, or bottled water, and rinse your face with that.
You were having fun on vacation and were less stressed, which helped your acne. :)
i've had it for almost 2 years now, but you do have to change the filter every 6 months or so. i've forgotten to replace the filter before and didn't notice a difference until maybe 10 months in tho
I used to use a shower head that filtered out the hard water- it had lots of filters in it- something similar to this: https://www.amazon.com/AquaBliss-Output-12-Stage-Shower-Filter/dp/B01MUBU0YC/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=Water+Softener+Shower+Heads&qid=1614094837&sr=8-1
I got this one!
I am a dude, but I bought this shower head after reading a study about how hard water can cause hair loss.
I have this one https://www.amazon.com/AquaBliss-Output-12-Stage-Shower-Filter/dp/B01MUBU0YC/ref=sr_1_2?crid=1UL1MGH92KHLI
It made showers significantly less painful.
Do you have hard water? If so, I recommend this water softening shower head. Have you ever tried a mousse? I like thisone that contains leave-in conditioner and doesn’t make your hair crunchy.
Sure thing it's the Aqua Bliss High Output Revitalizing Shower Filter and it's $35.
Helps with dry skin and that gross waxy residue it leaves in your hair.
There are SO MANY!!!! It’s ridiculously overwhelming lol.
I think you can do a hard water test to see which minerals/ contaminants are in your water so you can get one that targets what you want filtered out, but I was desperate and just purchased the one I could find decent info on from Reddit users (shower filters are talked about on r/SkincareAddiction sometimes, I just googled ‘shower filter Reddit’ and went off that).
I bought this filter - AquaBliss High Output Revitalizing Shower Filter (SF100) and have these filters (AquaBliss Replacement Cartridge SFC100 High Output Multi Stage Revitalizing Shower Filter) delivered every 4 months. I have used the SFC100 and SFC220 filters interchangeably in my SF100 filter, mainly when the SFC100 was sold out and I needed a new one. The difference between the 100 and 220 models is that 100 is marketed as high output as well as multi-stage. Since pressure matters to you, if you decide on Aqua Bliss I would go with the high output model. But both models cost and look and the exact same :) no idea why they offer two versions as it just makes researching your options even more complicated haha
There is still a faint chlorine smell to my water that this filter doesn’t completely erase, although it does reduce it significantly. I intend to purchase this additional filter (Envig CloraClear Chloramine Shower Filter) and stack it with the Aqua Bliss one because I’m extra. I heard about this filter from a Reddit post as well.
It is probably overkill and might not even do anything the other isn’t already doing, but after losing FISTFULS of hair I am scarred for life. A double filter may reduce my water pressure but it will give me peace of mind - I still am wary of showers due to the havoc the water wreaked on me, so the mental hurdle is the issue now. Two filters will help me keep my sanity and stop getting anxious every time I have to get wet…
This is the basic filter I got. Screws in behind the showerhead
I have stupid hard water so even this basic one made a difference for me. Might save up for a better one soon to see if it helps even more.
As for steaming, I just started a few weeks ago so I didn't want to buy anything new in case it was not effective but my hair is long enough i can kinda dangle over my hot water...lol. I started googling cuz there has to be an easier way.. I found they make 'steamer caps' you can microwave, or are electric and I think that would work wayy better. Not advocating the brand just happened to be 1st link on google. Also called 'afro steamer cap' some look pretty affordable on Amazon too. I think I will invest in one soon tbh and looks perfect for your length
Look for a water softener. There are a million products like this that just screw onto your shower head. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MUBU0YC/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_ZXGRVM21BTZZ2JT32Z2G
I used to have this problem as well. You can pick up different water filters that will soften the water fairly cheaply on Amazon. here’s the one I have . You can also get filtering shower heads like this one . Also be extra careful to make sure that you don’t take products up to hair like conditioner or leave in treatments. A water softener will just make you hair feel softer and healthier all round so I think they’re more than worth the money. When you first install go in with a good clarifying shampoo to ‘reset’ your hair.
I’m probably starting to sound like a broken record around here with the number of times I’ve made a post along these lines. The solution that has attained the best results for my hair (thick, fine, Caucasian) is the Briogeo Scalp Revival Shampoo when I started using it used it for every wash until my flakes cleared up and now only use it every third wash. The shampoo that I use in between is the Umberto Giannini Scalp Restore .
Alternatively, do you live in an area with hard water? If you do installing a water softener at home may help here’s the one I have

A water softener usually removes calcium but adds salt.
I use this filter.
Best solution is to get a water softener. If it’s with in your families budgets see if you can get one installed that treats the water at the point of entry. That way all the showers/baths and your tap water for drinking and cooking are covered. If this is out of your budget or your living in a rental the AquaBliss shower filter has done wonders for my hair.
I have also heard amazing recommendations about the Malibu C hard water wellness range. The range includes a shampoo, conditioner and treatment sachets.
Hey!
I've been there before, I used to suffer from really bad depression. I'm sorry to hear you're going through such a difficult time.
Lastly, I'm not a doctor, but if your depression is getting to the point that its debilitating and getting in the way of your self-care that's usually a sign of clinical depression. If you have a doctor, I would advise talking to them about your options. I was really against seeking help because I thought I could manage it on my own, it took me 20 years to finally see a doctor and get treated. I wish I would have done it sooner, because it really impacted all of my personal relationships as well as my self-care. I didn't have anyone in my life who cared enough to share resources with me, or discuss with me the benefits of seeking help, which I really needed since I was so caught up on the stigma. If that's not your thing, I can totally respect that, but just thought I would share. Buff for a long time so that my hair would stay in a pineapple and not frizz up. Or you can just get a hair bonnet as well. A lot of the matting I've experienced has usually been when I don't have a silk pillowcase. I'm in the middle of a move right now, and I don't have mine and my kitchen looks CRAZY!! lol, it's just super matted and randomly sticks up and out. I've been having to clip it up with a bobby pin when I wear my hair up, just in the meantime until I find my pillow case. I know this is long, but I would start with the bonnet or Duff, as well as the pillowcase. When you do your wash day try Kinky Curly. I've recently been adding Aveeno ACV shampoo and Conditioner into my routine, and that also helps with balancing out the PH of your hair so it will bring out your natural curl pattern and minimize frizz. Lastly, I don't know what curl type you have, but I used to follow the Curly Girl method religiously. It did NOT work for me, my hair was dull and product would sit on top of it, and lots and lots of knots and frizz would occur. Not sure how you wash your hair, but this also helped me sooo much with matting and frizz. If you use shampoo, wash with cool water and ONLY on your scalp, never on any other part of your hair except for at the root. Next, use what i describe as "medium-well" heat on your hair. You don't want it to be HOT, but you want it to be at the hottest stage of warm...Not sure how else to describe that. This will open up your hair cuticle so that the conditioner can actually get in there and moisturize. Do the same thing with your leave-in, and make sure your hair is DRIPPING wet when you put it in. Apply gel after, tbh I do this in the shower as well. If your depression makes wash day long and laborious, think about getting a shower-chair in the mean-time so that you can comfortably get through your routine, there are also mirrors for showers so you can see what you're doing. I added an Aquabliss to my shower as well, which I've noticed a huge difference in frizz as well. It was recommended to me when I moved from MN to LA because my hair was so dull, and frizzy. I was able to set up myself, it's pretty easy, but if you don't like projects like that your maintenance person can install it, or phone a friend/family member if you live in a home. https://www.amazon.com/AquaBliss-Output-12-Stage-Shower-Filter/dp/B01MUBU0YC/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=water+filter+for+shower&qid=1634847653&sr=8-5

Lastly, I'm not a doctor and I'm not giving medical advice, but if your depression is getting to the point that it's debilitating and getting in the way of your self-care that's usually a sign of clinical depression. If you have a doctor, I would advise talking to them about your options. I was really against seeking help because I thought I could manage it on my own, it took me close to 20 years to finally see a doctor and get treated. I wish I would have done it sooner, because it really impacted all of my personal relationships as well as my self-care. If depression goes long-term without being treated it can actually damage your brain, making the effects difficult to reverse, so things such as loss of memory, difficulty finding words, apathy etc can become long-term as well. . I didn't have anyone in my life who cared enough to share resources with me, or discuss with me the benefits of seeking help, which I really needed since I was so caught up on the stigma. If that's not your thing, I can totally respect that, but just thought I would share.
Hope this helps!

I use the Aquabliss High Output Revitalizing Shower Filter which was a one time purchase. Every four months I get a replacement filter.
For the products I recommended, I know I bought them at either Sephora or Ulta. Sephora has a great 30 day return policy for products if you don’t like them - you can return it even if opened and partially used (as long as more than half is left I think) within 30 days for a full refund. They also have fast shipping. The conditioner definitely buy from Ulta NOT Amazon - I have received two bottles from Amazon that were definitely not authentic (the conditioner was basically water). You can get a bigger bottle that you can put a pump in usually but they aren’t offering it right now. If there are any you can’t find or can only find on Amazon let me know and I’ll find a reputable beauty site for you to order from. I have had more bad luck than good with counterfeit hair care products on Amazon,
You can also do the overnight/ shower cap method I mentioned with your regular conditioner instead of oil. The heat from your head amps the effectiveness of conditioner and conditioning treatments up to 11.
You can also ask your hairdresser if they have a product they use for the issues you’re having. They know how to make your hair feel and look it’s best and can point you in the right direction!

It’s probably the water. Scandinavia has fairly soft water doesn’t it? Parts of the UK have incredibly hard water which can lead to dryness and breakage. Where I got to Uni has really hard water and like you I have a lot of really fine hair and the hard water turned my previously silky hair into a tangly mess.

Since installing a water softener I have noticed a marked improvement in my hair.
Thisis the one that I got or there are cheaper shower head alternatives.
I use this showerhead filter, I also rinse with dillute acv in glycerin.
It’s some sort of charcoal filter. It reduces bad stuff in the water. That’s the technical explanation.

Sorry for the delay! Here’s the link for the one I bought on amazon in the US, I had a separate shower head situation so I just wanted the filter: AquaBliss High Output Revitalizing Shower Filter - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MUBU0YC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_DbhWEb4F8W2TR The one I bought in Canada was one that included the shower head (I’m part time in both countries): Luxau Shower Filter & Shower Head Combo https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B07D9H1B52/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_zehWEbQCKQ8FC
I find that both do the job great :)
I live in Germany but I searched Amazon around two months ago because we have lots of lime in our water. I found a shower filter similar to this and it's worked pretty well. The one I picked as an example just the first result from amazon.com
You need to keep your shower in mind. At home, I have a hand shower and a rain shower. I had initially planned on using it for the hand shower but it just wasn't possible. This particular type was too heavy for my hand shower and it was too thick to attach at the pipe connection close to the wall because it was too thick. I eventually attached it above the rain shower and have been happy ever since.
So keep that in mind and you can get a shower head replacement with an integrated filter if needed as an alternative.
Idk if you've got access to amazon but they sell a water filtering showerhead that would help a LOT.

I'd watch this video:
How I Stopped My Hair loss Naturally
If I had to add anything:
All of that plus what he mentions in the video and you should be good. I'm applying pretty much all of this myself so I'll get back to you in a decade or two if I'm still alive. See if I still have my curls. For now, I'll say that I do get the sense that I held back what was definitely creeping hair-loss 1-2 years ago.
If all else fails, chillax and just save up for a hair transplant. They've come pretty far with those nowadays.
Thank you. Did you install the filter with this?
Sounds like you might be drying out and irritating your scalp with all that shampooing.
I had a similar issue; lots of tiny white skin flakes that remained no matter how much I shampooed with anti-dandruff stuff. I found out that I could be over-drying my scalp, as those anti-dandruff shampoos are very harsh and drying to kill FUNGAL dandruff, which I did not have, and switched over to a hydrating/moisturizing shampoo and conditioner which solved the issue (I would occasionally do an olive/coconut oil hair mask). Months later I still don't have dandruff. TIP: LEAVE ON your conditioner for at least 3-5 minutes, massaging it into the scalp and thoroughly wash it out.
Since your water is hard, I would also recommend getting one of these to soften your shower water. We got one (after I fixed my dandruff issue) because of bacne issues and it helped a lot.
