So I replaced the motherboard with the following:
Same issue with a slight improvement. Now the psu fan spins for a quick moment, then stops, as well as the CPU fan.
Question though: would the CPU fan possibly failed, and would that cause the PC to no boot? I'm sorry if that's a stupid question, but I'm grasping at straws and just considering buying all new components and starting from scratch.
sorry in advance, multi-photo posting is kind of weird on my phone. but i am converting an old Optiplex 9010 i got for (what i thought) a good deal into a mid-range 1080p gaming rig. So i got 32gb ram, my rx 570 8gb gpu and new Apevia Aura case. i'm not new to computers but i am new to dells. apparently Dell mobos use all kinds of proprietary connectors, even the fan hook up is a 5-pin(!?). i read around and apparently the most dedicated have gone in and re-wired and re-mapped plugs and whatnot. i'm not trying to do all that. not to just put an 8 year old mobo in a new case. i would've kept the the OEM case really, but my GPU doesn't fit, and I gotta use that! gaming on integrated graphics SUCKS! so in short, I am just going to replace the mother board with an Asus unit. Usually, stuff like this is a slam dunk for me, but after all this weird Dell stuff Ive been finding out, I am in no mood for anymore surprises. can anyone forsee a problem with just swapping out for a new, non-proprietary motherboard? i'm running a i7-3770 (lga1155 socket) and want to keep it for this build. i will build something more substantial with a more modern cpu, i just want to get this build off the ground before moving on.
I agree you should replace your motherboard but with the skylake series out, it may not be worth to do so.
Anyways, there are some relatively cheap and we'll reviewed z77 out there.
ASUS P8Z77-V LX LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007MKGF82/ref=cm_sw_r_other_awd_2tHqwbVYKDM6X
That CPU actually puts you in a bit of difficult situation. That CPU runs on the Z77 chipset which is was made for sandy bridge (your CPU) and ivy bridge. I'm actually kind of surprised that some American retailers such as Newegg stock some compatible motherboards. But idk if the retailers in Ireland still stock them.
I just did some quick searching and found some motherboards on Amazon UK, and it looks like that might be your best bet.
Most of the motherboards are used ones but there are still a couple of new ones for sale such as this one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/ASUS-90-Z77-MIBHT0-g0eay0-Socket-Ethernet/dp/B007MKGF82/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1444485801&sr=8-5&keywords=Z77
You could also try this second hand one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/SABERTOOTH-Motherboard-Support-CrossfireX-Supports/dp/B007KZQEHQ/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1444485801&sr=8-3&keywords=Z77
Here is the page where I found those two boards: http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss/277-8529830-3303754?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=Z77
Mobo is currently selling for $130 on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/ASUS-P8Z77-V-LX-Intel-Motherboard/dp/B007MKGF82
> ASUS P8Z77-V LX

Cheapest used is $90
Newegg's price was $125 before it went out of stock.
~~So... you're full of shit.~~ Edit: thought you were the dude I replied to, with a $40 motherboard.
For a typical ATX motherboard, the price is $100. I have an ASUS Maximum Hero VII that I got open box for $150.
You don't need to overspend on a motherboard, but under spending is just as stupid. A $40 motherboard, unless its refurbished, won't get you anywhere.
I was thinking maybe this, but i couldnt find it on the list
