Bro. yevarikaina nenu suggest chesedi Audio technica M20x. Japanese company, entry level headphones. you get intended sound, not bass boosted. (also no mic) you get it for around 3500-4000 depending on sale. I have been using for the last three and half years. No problems at all. very durable. No issues with the cushion either(very comfy). i have fallen asleep with them on my head also. Only drawback is the lengthy cable because of them being studio monitor headphones. This is the one
Depends what you want.
Personally, if you don't mind wired and using a secondary mic (you honestly should anyhow, headset mics blow), you can jump away from "gaming" models and get better quality for a better price. I used Audio-Technica ATH-M20x, which you can get for $50 of Amazon. They kill everything I've tried otherwise, including HyperX Clouds. They also have an extremely long cord.
I wanted a wireless set and have been impressed with the Rig 800s. I can't recall exactly which version I have on those, but I got them on sale for ~$80 at Best Buy.
I matched them with a Behringer Ultravoice XM8500 for my mic, a USB to XLR cable, and a suspension boom stand, all toogether for under $40. The Behringer reviews as comparable to the Shure SM58, which costs five times as much.
best for 50 and under overall best
If you’re looking for well-made over-ear headphones that give you high sound quality and comfort, you should get these.
First of all, their excellent built quality and lightweight casing make them comfortable to wear (even if you’re wearing glasses). You can easily find your size with the adjustable headband, and they even fit large heads. Also, they last a long time, so that’s money well spent.
As said before, their audio quality is above average (for the cost). Tones are rich and warm. The ranges are rather balanced, with bass and mids being slightly enhanced. It’s really clear and makes every music genre worth listening to.
What makes Audio-Technica ATH-M20x stand out at the price range is their pleasant sound, reliable comfort, and long-lasting durability.
I don't like 'in ear' headphones for long periods and the PSVR and games left me short so based on reviews and videos I got these last week (until I can get better).
The sound is pretty good for the price. Only downside is they do get a little sweaty on your ears.
Check out Audio Technica ATH-M20x
At the very least this could be a starting point for you to compare reviews against. Maybe even jump over to r/headphoneadvice, just be specific with what you're looking for.
Its fairly balanced, odd CPU/GPU combo though. You could downgrade to a 3600 and grab a 2070 Super or something instead. I do recommend finding another PSU. One option would be the CoolerMaster MWE 650.
Now about your edit.... Everything about the Krakens are utter dogshit. Instead, grab a pair of Audio Technica's for the exact same price. You'll need a modmic with these, but they are infinitely better.
Any headphones will work, assuming your amp has a 1/4 output jack. You’ll just need a 3.5 to 1/4 trs adapter. Since you’re on a budget, the headphones I’d recommend are the audio technica ATH M20X. I use these for recording and they’re fantastic for the money. Nice long cable and already comes with the adapter you’ll need.
Here’s the amazon link if interested. https://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-ATH-M20x-Professional-Monitor-Headphones/dp/B00HVLUR18
Cheers!
I've looked through all the suggestions I've been given here, and it seems like audio technica is s good brand to choose from. I really have my heart set on over ear headphones, and I also wanted to stay within my budget.
I found these(note- in CAD): Audio-Technica ATH-M20x Professional Headphones https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00HVLUR18/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_smS-BbMW5MHBP
Based on the reviews this seems like a good option. I'd like a second opinion before buying, what do you say?
Those Koss headphones are on ear and not comfortable. At least for me. For $50 try these - Audio-Technica ATH-M20x
Audio-Technica ATH-M20x Professional Monitor Headphones https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HVLUR18/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_aq94AbA6RGA87
Edit: you said running. I didn’t see that sorry. I don’t think you’re going to want to run in these headphones I mentioned. They’re comfortable and sound great. But they’re big and have like a 10 foot cable. They sound amazing for $50 though.
Right now I'm looking at these
Audio-Technica ATH-M20X Professional Headphones - Black https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00HVLUR18/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_koBcAbJEYD9RD
My stereo ones were much cheaper so that probably played a part in why they were so bad haha.
Music wise it doesn't matter, I'm not an audiophile so most sound the same, but for CSGO I'd like better clarity.
My budget is £50/£70 so if you could recommend me something around that price range I'd be grateful!
I've had the Audio-Technica M20X's for at least 2+ years now. Only wear them at my desktop so they don't get taken outside. But they still work and produce great sound. Slight issue being the ear pads are becoming slightly worn, but they can be replaced.
If they work on a TV they will work with the console.
Hard to recommend without knowing a price range. I have what you might call a budget set:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00HVLUR18/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
They work fine.
Audio Technica makes a whole line of those headphones from the ATH-M20x at around $50 to the ATH-50x at around $150. I've had the ATH-M20x's for a year and a half now, and I've been very happy with them. Those should be more in your price range.
Hi there, I have a pair of AKG k44, and I'm looking to get a warmer sounding, comfier pair of cans for gaming, films etc... I'm looking at Ath m20xs but I don't see much buzz about them compared to Tascams or Monoprice stuff. should I buy a pair of budget headphones for daily drivers or get the m20xs?
They will likely never leave my computer desk, I'm not running an amp at the moment but I could run a scarlett 2i2 interface if i needed to
? nooo idea how these headphones sound but ive got m50x's and have heard tons about how m40x's sound and theyre both good
EDIT: the ? doesnt look like a link but it is i promise
I just go an LP60-USB for Christmas and wanted to get headphones for it. I know it has a built in pre amp and could plug in directly using the LINE out from doing some research. I don't think I'll have a volume control though.
Do I need a headphone pre amp? Do I then need to use the Phono setting to turn off the pre amp?
These are the headphones I have.
Audio Technica ATH-M20X https://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-ATH-M20x-Professional-Headphones/dp/B00HVLUR18
Suggestions on head phone pre amps if I need one? My budget would be around $50.
Those headphones are pretty good, bought them for my brother too.
combined with the best adhesive mic on the market, nice combo, which beats most gaming headset in that price range.
edit:
optionally, the Audio-Technica-ATH-M20x
> Sennheiser HD 202 II
You're not wrong either, the Sennheiser HD 202 II is just awful. Do yourself a favor and go with these
Try Audio Technica ATH-M20x. Everything about it is awesome, except for the super long cord (about 10ft).
/r/headphones
I would recommend Audio-Technica M20X ($49) or any of their models through the M70X ($249).
Do you have a laptop you're doing this on?
If not I would stay away from USB.
Audio Technica makes some good cheap headphones that are industry standard in recording and radio. They're pretty BIFL.
As for the mic that's kinda your choice. I have a mod mic but I got it when they were $15 and they're more than that now.
I would recommand the ATH-M20x for your budget, they're 64.98 on Amazon. Link: http://www.amazon.ca/Audio-Technica-ATH-M20x-Professional-Headphones/dp/B00HVLUR18/ref=sr_1_1?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1456496657&sr=1-1&keywords=ATH-M20x
M20x is a pretty good option. The next step up is $70, for the M30x.
Might I just ask, Why earbuds? If you're doing any gaming you're definitely going to want a decent mic and the ones on earbuds are complete crap. You know the brand Audio Technica, so why not get some of their headphones like these:
Anyways, at the end of the day it does come down to personal preference and for some decent earbuds that will last a bit just get some Skullcandies . I know it might be a bit overpriced, but I've had a pair that I use daily, and they've lasted me for about a year.
The main thing for lying on the couch is them breaking under head weight over moving around. I can always readjust them, but if lying down breaks them that's not good lol.
Yeah I checked out the AKG ones and Amazon.com vs .ca is pretty comparable once you factor the exchange.
Otherwise there's services that you can send you packages to in the US and go pick them up. That's why the HD 558's look so attractive right now because after the exchange they're $105, even after fuel and parcel costs it would still cost less than $200.
My roommate has a pair of Audio Technica ATH M20x that I tried out and they were nice for music, but I found they were kind of flat for movies, just not much bass. That might be because I didn't change the settings on my amp though.
Like I said, the main thing I'm after is theater quality sound. Do you think I might get that with the HD 558 or 598?
I'm taking a look at AKG K77s, and yeah I can keep overheads on my head while running should be fine then! I'll be getting em soon!
Also what do you think of these for him? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Audio-Technica-ATH-M20X-Professional-Headphones-Black/dp/B00HVLUR18/ref=sr_1_10?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1439396139&sr=1-10&keywords=ath+m50x
you can buy audio technica m20x on amazon for $50, they are a good brand. I am not too sure about a mic.
Unfortunately, /r/games is about the discussion of games and gaming news, so this post will probably not get any attention. But I'll try to help you out because it looks like a simple misunderstanding.
First, what type system does he use? Does he play console or PC? If he plays consoles, he may want an extra controller for when friends come over. If he already has an extra controller, or if a controller is too expensive ($60 is pretty pricey), an xbox or playstation gift card would be nice.
If he plays games on his PC, these headphones are pretty good bang for your buck (they do not come with a mic, but you can buy them separately for <$10). These headphones can work with consoles, but you would need to buy an adapter. Any usb adapter can work for the ps4/3, but xbox adapters are a bit more expensive. Again, a cheap alternative could be maybe a steam gift card or a mousepad related to his favorite game/gaming team.
An $8 webcam makes a better mic than most headsets. A $60 set of headphones will likely be better than any headset.
http://www.amazon.ca/Audio-Technica-ATH-M20x-Professional-Headphones/dp/B00HVLUR18
But just read all those threads and decide for yourself. Plenty of info in there
Why dont you buy a good headphone and then a separate cheap dedicated mic?
just over 5000 but you can always get a cheaper mic in your local stores. i once saw a iball one for 600
For bedroom mixing, or something you can use later?
Neutral sound quality ideally, but if you want to use them later, an amount of sound isolation is needed. You MUST be able to hear that left ear (or right ear, depends on how you listen, beat against the club to match. If you can't hear it clearly, then you'll struggle.
So I'd suggest you look for around the ear, closed back headphones.
So features
Neutral Sound. Closed Back. Around the ear, not over the ear.

These are a good starter pair.

Most common Music Listening headphones (Beats) are not that good for editing. You need generally flat Studio Headphones. Though they need not be excessively expensive.
Music listening headphones generally have Bass Emphasis which is great for listening, but it will cause you to under-mix the bass, so the final edits come up bass short.
You need generally Flat and Neutral headphones.

io uso queste da quasi 3 anni
Ma ti fanno male proprio le orecchie o il punto dove le cuffie si appoggiano alle aste degli occhiali che si appoggiano alla testa?
Io ho preso queste 2 anni fa. Sono ancora perfette e le uso parecchio.
I need headphones for gaming, My budget is USD$50-$75. I'm looking for 3.5mm wired pair without I microphone since I don't have any friends to talk to anyway. I want to use them with my computer, ps4 and ps5. I also like listening to rock/metal music. I live in Australia. I did find these ones https://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-ATH-M20x-Professional-Monitor-Headphones/dp/B00HVLUR18/ but I am open to other suggestions.
commenting to give you visibility, there's a whole headphones subreddit out there: r/headphones, plus a FAQ though it's a little old: https://sites.google.com/view/quipa/faq-hub
-though I think if your family is noise sensitive I would just use headphones until you can find a space where you can use monitors IMO
I don’t speak Spanish but I think he is asking about headphones, I’d recommend these: Audio-Technica ATH-M20x Professional Studio Monitor Headphones, Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HVLUR18/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_wP3dFbGJM3KZN

Thanks WalnutTheDog! My headphone adapter is TRS (two lines). But I did not consider a potential issue being that both my headphones have a mic. I just ordered a pair of proper studio headphones from amazon with no mic. Will update!
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HVLUR18/ref=ppx_od_dt_b_asin_title_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1
One of these two.
Monoprice I used these for a while and for under $20 they're a miracle.
Audiotechnica Ath-20x I haven't used this specific model but I've used others from the series and they're great, and these are well-reviewed as reference cans under $50.
Would these be good if I bought a seperate mic setup aswell? I found a pretty good mic for $30 and will pair it with a pop filter and mic arm.
Get a decent pair of headphones and a separate microphone. As far as noise cancellation are you referring to getting rid of external noise on the microphone or through the headphones? If you mean headphones then pickup a good set of closed back headphones, if you mean microphone then pickup something like a lavalier microphone and turn down your input gain, it'll greatly reduce the amount of outside noise your microphone picks up.
I'm reading a lot about the "best headphones under $100". Unfortunately for me, the prices are always in US Dollars, so the headphones often end up costing $120-$200 Canadian.
Therefore, my question is, what are the best over-the-ear closed-back headphones under $100 Canadian?
My current considerations are:
Are there other options I should look at? Out of the ones listed above, which are best?
Does it need to come with a mic attached?
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Audio-Technica-ATH-M20X-Professional-Headphones-Black/dp/B00HVLUR18
Add a ModMic and you're all set :)
Check out Audio-Technica ATH-M20x seems the best you can get in mid-range from the reviews.
You can check out Sony products as well. They tend to last longer, unless you're going for their basic models. Cousin has Sony MDR-XB450. Running fine since almost two years, tbf I found it better than Sennhieser HD 202.
Sony Extra Bass MDR-XB550AP looks good as well.

well for that price range, you won't get any killer sounds to take advantage of the quad dac if you have it, but you can get some great quality headphones. I really like Audio-Technica, with that price range you should be able to get good sound using this:
Or these ones:
Obviously the over the ear headphones will sound better, but the "portability" quality is gone
Here's my advice: Get a decent pair of headphones and a shabby pair of speakers. It doesn't have to be anything expensive. Buy this pair of headphones, this is what I use for basic tracking and what I used for a really long time just to mix with: Audio-Technica ATH-20x. These are by no means incredible headphones, they're not top-of-the-line, but they have a pretty decent and balanced sound to them and are going to be cans you'll want with you even if you're working in a super nice studio, if not just purely for reference.
Studio monitors are not the kind of thing you want to skimp out on and you're probably going to want to get at least a few years of use out of them. Save up your money and don't worry about it for now. You're just writing, you really don't need to make something that sounds SUPER professional right this second. Just don't make the mistake of skimping out and buying some cheap ass monitors that set you back and end up not even being very good.
This is pretty much what I did. I began work on my album using a crappy pair of speakers and the aforementioned headphones, saved up money, bought a nice pair of generation 1 Rokit 8's on a VERY nice deal I stumbled upon one day on Craigslist, bought a dedicated audio interface, and upgraded my headphones so that I have a pair of open-back cans to use for primary reference while using my old ATH-20xs for alternate reference.
It might not be the answer you want to hear, but I feel pretty good about how I decided to go about doing things, and studio monitors are definitely not the kinda thing to move in on when you only have a budget of 100-200 bucks.
I went back and re-worked my mixes on my studio monitors once I acquired them and I don't regret a thing. Like I said, all that crappy gear you were working on before will still be of some use when it comes to reference during mixing and/or mastering.
Good luck!

Personally, I would recommend avoiding gaming headsets as they tend to have worse sound than normal headphones.
My setup combines a decent studio headphone (has flatter EQ tuning so you can hear everything super clearly, THIS ONE is a really good option) with a Zalman mic that clips to the headphone cord.
This would leave you room to upgrade the mic later if you needed better sound.
If you're talking about using this for console gaming disregard this as I doubt you have a separate headphone and mic port.

Budget - $50 to 70
Source - Computer and sometimes phone (Xiaomi Redmi Note 2)
Requirements for Isolation - Working in my living room noisy parents and the banging of pots while cooking and naming new children (i'm chinese). but tbh its more for drowning out my parents chatting or my dad playing videos on his speaker beside me
Preferred Type of Headphone - over ear Circumaural design, need to be comfortable.
Preferred tonal balance - overall balanced or smooth mids (not too picky)
Past headphones - Steelseries Flux IEM (best sounding earphone's i have ever used), beyerdynamic mmx 101ie (a tad too bassy), Xiaomi Piston III (the closest i could get to the likeness of the steelseries flux iem), Xiaomi Hybrid Earphones (similar to Piston III, but i like the build quality a lot better; piston III for sound quality tho)
Preferred Music - Listen to pretty much everything TBH i can't single out a particular genre
What would you like to improve on from your set-up - Looking for a over ear Circumaural headphone with a very wide open sound stage. These are more for studying, i want the sound to be more natural and not feel like its inside my head (if that makes sense). In terms of isolation, it needs to be there but doesnt need to be super great(again i hope that makes sense). I have an Amazon gift card so im limiting my search to amazon canada.
Headphones i've looked at:
any suggestions are welcome so long as i can find them on amazon canada. If any one can offer any insight on the soundstage of the headphones i linked that would also be greatly appreciated.
Thank you all in advance!

This past year is the first year I listened to more "non-metal" than metal since I got into metal when I was a sophomore in HS and regardless of what I was playing they sound great. I went on a weird kick where I listened to Yo-Yo Ma pretty heavily and loved how Sakura Sakura (and the entire Japanese Melodies album) sounded. I'm also a really big Ryan Adams fan and think the subtleties of such a stripped down performance were really accented well. But honestly my favorite album of the year was an alt. country record by Sturgill Simpson and it sounds unbelievable. And then of course, my favorite album of all time, Grace, featuring this song is always very very pleasant to experience through those headphones.
I don't know if that answered your question, but you got quite an overview of most of my listening. I left out some pop stuff though. No matter what you listen to through those headphones, they'll sound fantastic. There are some cheaper options though:
Pretty much anything from AT is going to be good. They kind of specialize (imo) at making great sounding headphones without being expensive as all get out. There's another cheaper headphone that is roughly $20 if I'm remembering right. I'm not sure what your budget is, but I think the M40x are the best for the money. They have a detachable headphone cable which is incredibly convenient.
I'd go for a decent set of headphones and a seperate Mic. I have these Audio Technica M20x headphones, really good quality and nice long cord to tuck away. I pair these with a Blue Snowball Mic as its good quality but doesn't look out of place on a desk or tucked behind a monitor when not in use.
This combo is $10 over your max budget but really gives you the best of both worlds for a reasonable price, I personally couldn't reccomend any 'gaming headset'.
I was look at these. Reviews are nice. Any rumors about the quality of these?
same brand like you recommended
Headsets/ Headphone & Mic combos are pretty much plug and play, right?
I use a TV as my monitor so I'm guessing I'll need an aux extender for each cord as well?
I plan to go with the below mic and headphones, any reason they won't work? They're all the budget allows for now, if I'm unsatisfied with the mic I'll consider an Antlion modmic in the future.
I appreciate the input. I went ahead and spent a little more on this set since neither you nor the other responder were too enthusiastic about the two I originally posted: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HVLUR18/
Audio Technica M20x and a separate mic
I got myself a pair of Audio-Technica ATH-M20x for headphones and a Blue Snowball for a mic. I highly recommend both.
M20x seems like a good option considering your budget.
> Do you suggest the Z level chipsets even for someone who might not use the overclocking?
Yes, they usually have more features and such than H series motherboards, so if you need them you might want to get a Z series, although there isn't much of a point in getting an overclockable CPU with a non-overclockable motherboard.
>Is the difference between 7 CL and 9 CL noticeable at this build level?
No.
>That being said I should think the 960 would be a good fit at my 1920x1080, but I'll look into it.
That... doesn't make any sense. Why would you go for a card that is less powerful for the same price as a card that's more powerful just because you won't game much?
>what would be a more reliable PSU in the 500W-600W range?
More reliable than the Corsair PSU or the EVGA PSU? And why do you want less wattage? PSUs don't draw all of the power that they can handle 24/7, so I don't see a reason to get a lower wattage PSU when there aren't any 600W semi-modular PSU's that are more reliable than the EVGA one.
>I figured that a more efficient power supply would contribute less heat to the system
I don't think that a more efficient power supply affects the heat of the components. If it did, people would most likely include the name of thier PSU when doing benchmarks, but they usually don't, and if they do it's probably just for the fact that they stated all of their specs.
>I guess I can live without DVI.
HDMI has better quality than DVI, why would you want DVI over it?
>I'm always weary of headphones that advertise 5.1/7.1 channels because hey, I don't have 7.1 ears on my head and good sound design should be able to immerse with stereo headphones. Do they really stand out to you?
You don't have to have 7.1 on the headset/headphones just because they're capable of it, it's togglable. Most people are not fans of 7.1 because it sounds fake or something to them, but I don't really know because my current headset don't sound different to me when I enable 7.1. If you need/want a microphone, you could get the ATH-M20x with a ModMic or the Sennheiser HD280 which comes with a Blue Snowball Microphone, both of which are slightly over budget, but if you can't spare the extra money, you could go for what I originally stated, the Hyper X Cloud/II's, the Logitech G430's, or the SteelSeries Siberia V2/RAW Prism headset.
Ok, so it looks like i'm either going to get the Audio Technica M20x, or the Soney MDRV6. Which would you recommend?

Well, rule 1 is you don't go with Beats. The same goes for lots of "gaming" headsets. You'll get shoddy build quality and all they'll really do is boost the bass to unnatural levels. Personally I have the AudioTechnica M20x, which are some pretty good cans by themselves. Sennheiser is also a great brand, I used the HD203 for a few months until they broke from wear&tear (I took them to school every day. Would not recommend doing that with any good pair of cans). However, those made it look like I had the St. Louis Arch on my head.
Then you might be interested in the Audio Technica M20X
The Audio-Technica ATH-M20x should be very good for your price range: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HVLUR18/ref=psdc_172541_t3_B00HVLUR54

I like the Audio-Technica ATH-M20X Headset as a good starter headset.
Don’t get earphones if you plan to use them for long periods , at least for me they hurt my ear after a while , and I’m pretty sure there is some evidence that suggests over the ears are much better for you
I suggest you get a good pair of non-gaming headphones , gaming headphones below 3-4K are just a gimmick to sell you cheap sounding cans
If you can spend 1000rs more then you can get the Audio technica m20x which sound great

Headphones and mic. Heres what id go with Headphones mic arm pop filter
I'd say you're probably looking for something like these. If I were buying them myself, I'd probably lean towards the Audio Technica.

$50 AudioTechnica I believe you need an adapter for these though
I’ll keep looking for a decent headset without a mic
Edit:
Try Audio-Technica 20X for 2799/- lightning deal going on now. Or go for Audio-Technica 30X. I am using Audio Technica 40X for a year now and its sound clarity is really great.
I live in Canada and I've been looking on amazon.ca for the ATH-M20x (right here: http://www.amazon.ca/Audio-Technica-ATH-M20x-Professional-Headphones/dp/B00HVLUR18) since my budget isn't too high and I've heard amazing things about them. The problem is that I use my phone (Nexus 5) to listen to most of my music and with the 47 Ohm impedance of the M20x's, I'm worried I might not be able to get the best out of my phone. I'm not an audiophile by any means. The headphones I have right now are those typical Sony ones like this: http://www.amazon.ca/Sony-MDR-ZX300IP-Stereo-headphones-microphone/dp/B00BN0N058 (might not be the same ones, Sony made a whole bunch of similar ones and named them in very confusing ways). They treated me well and I guess they're okay but now the left side is dying out and I need to replace them.
What I'm asking is that would the ATH-M20x be good for me and will it work well with my Nexus 5? If not, what's something else you can suggest for a similar price point?
Thanks for any help :)
