Dealer already drilled holes in the front of mine, so I took off their dealer advertisement and used these plain rubber ones. I like them, prevents the license plate from coming in contact with the car and scratching it:

I use these on my truck. I've always hated license plate frames, but I don't like the way the plates look just on their own either. This gives it a little bit more of a finished look, and also provides a layer between the plate and the car that won't leave scratches.

I have this silicone one. Works perfect, comes with 2 for front and back.

You can always put some foam in between the plate and trunk to rid the rattle.

nope, it doesnt! I too was worried about that specifically around the edge of the plates so I added this sleeve, it covers the back and the edge quite well. I couldn't be happier with the setup!!

Yeah, I just found similar marks after taking my plate off for the first time in 12 years. Just clean and spray sealant/ceramic, and consider one of these groovy silicon license plate...things.
