Hi! Condiment bottles were a must for liquid food (smoothies, purées) and syringe for water—I just used the syringes I was given from the hospital. In the early days, I would use cheese cloth to strain my smoothies before putting them in my syringe/bottle—this made it easier to syringe and prevents tiny seeds (esp strawberry) from getting into the incisions, might be overkill but that’s just what I did. Yes to baby spoons. Once you graduate from bottles/syringes you won’t be able to fit a regular spoon. I didn’t use my humidifier, I bought it but never needed it. Probably don’t need a pill crusher if you have liquid meds.
The most important part of my comment: get one of these it’s a lifesaver for the weeks of congestion!!! I used this the most out of anything I bought. You do need someone to help you but it’s the most effective to get rid of congestion when you can’t blow your nose
This is a miracle worker. Make a nice steamy shower and hold kiddo, I used to wear a wife beater in shower because babies are slippery. After shower or maybe even during the mucus is way easier to get out. Keep kiddo upright tho, it helps is your SO is in the bathroom to help with all that but it’s possible to do alone.
nose frida works wonders than the bulb.
It’s this thing. I am super grossed out by it but the relief it provided helped me get over it. Creating a steam room in the shower really helps move things easier. For babies with a snotty nose, get a nosefrida (from the makers of the Windi coincidently). It really gets the snot out and you control the level of suction so you can be as gentle (or aggressive) as you need to be.
I googled searched "Mouth Sucker Upper Thingy"
The result is not what you would think...
Safe for work
Second this. Best thing since sliced bread.

I have some good news for you.
A NoseFrida or similar nasal aspirator would be good to help clear congestion. We use the HydraSense brand aspirator with a baby saline spray and it's SO effective. Once you get over the ick factor you realize it's a great thing. The HydraSense has a little disposable paper filter on it that prevents any material from being sucked into your mouth.
> Best advice is to know your giftee
> go generic.
This is good advice. I just wanted to point out, pink, frilly, saccharine clothes are not generic, neither are Spiderman jumpers. If you're confused about clothes I'd say buy something you'd like to wear, but in a baby size. Most of our cutest baby outfits are things a little adult would wear. If all else fails, here's some of the best and most useful things we got that weren't clothes:
Cloth Diapers, spit up rags, blankets, velcro polar fleece booties, swim diapers and rashies, this booger sucking thing, etc. Be creative!
Oh, BOOKS!!! Books are always a good buy. Kids fucking love books, our daughter is only 8 months old and already loves books!
I am not a doctor, this is not medical advice, everything here can be found on google.
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends palivizumab monoclonal antibody for high-risk infants and children with RSV - I don't know your risks, but worth knowing about it. Position here.
Gentle clapping over the chest (front and back) with cupped hands (like this) will help mobilize secretions in the chest.
If there's a bunch of junk in the nose, an aspirator like this can help. Also, a sinus rinse like this in conjunction with suction may help.
Upright as much as possible. warm humid air will help moisten the secretions in the chest, which will help them clear out.
If coughing continues for an extended period, then cold dry air (like driving around with the windows cracked open) will help reduce the inflammation in the airways. Sometimes popsicles will help too, as they indirectly cool all the air being breathed in, and what kid doesn't love popsicles, especially when they don't feel good.
Good luck.

I still think it is gross, but at least use this product if you really feel the need to suck out your kid's snot. http://www.amazon.com/Nosefrida-The-Snotsucker-Nasal-Aspirator/dp/B00171WXII
She should get a NoseFrida. Believe it or not, that is the most hygienic way.
I'll just stick with this
