Most crocks I've seen were pricey. Have you looked at amber colored mason jars like these??
I think they're usually cheaper in stores but, where I live at least, mason jars are still hard to come by.
They are Ball Amber jars. I didn't do anything specific to them, they are just made that way. Seem to work great for this application!
You’re in the right path...
This is what I use for long-term storage:
Ball Amber Glass Wide Mouth Mason Jars (32 oz/ Quart ) 4 Pack. With Airtight lids and Bands - Amber Canning Jar - UV light Protection - Microwave & Dishwasher Safe. + SEWANTA Jar Opener https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07T91FYT4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_417GSDYWS4C80J3PKDWA
Link only for reference, don’t buy them from Amazon. You can probably find them at half that price locally, I got mine at the local Meijer. The amber prevents UV light from passing through and this reduces algae.
Ball Kerr Humidity Control Packs and Holders, 32oz, Blue https://www.amazon.com/dp/B084DX8FK4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_HG8HKDPP8NBR6SJTZKYP
Picked up a few of these after I discovered them at the local Walmart. The packets work like Boveda moisture packets. The net pot fits on the jar before the lid and holds the moisture packets. This way they don’t get mixed up in the material
