I'm using these lights I got from Amazon. They can be undercounter or hung from the ceiling. So far I really like them. I thought the price was pretty reasonable too, considering how many lights you get. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B082ZL1Q63?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
We have these: Barrina Grow Light, 144W(6 x 24W,... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B082ZL1Q63?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Love that they have just enough green to make them full spectrum so the light shows mainly white and I can actually see the colors of my plants

They come with these weakish sticky pads which eventually will stop adhering to the metal (glass has stayed on for months). So I went to Home Depot and got a roll of outdoor double sided tape and haven’t had any issues since.
I honestly have no idea about the lux and stuff like that, but these are the lights I use..
My shelves are about 2 ft long and 1 ft deep. I have 2 of these lights per shelf. They are around 4-8 inches away, like you said, depending on how tall each plant is. They stay on for 14 hours a day. I keep the shield things on because I feel like it directs the light down towards the plants more, rather than just out to the sides.
I love the Barrina lights. After I got my first set, I accumulated more plants and another shelf. I ended up getting another set of T8 grow lights from a different brand on Amazon, I think they were called Jesled. They looked identical to the Barrina ones, plus they had twice the amount of lights, so I got them. I had them up for about 2 months before I took them down and got another set of Barrina. The difference in the plants under the other set compared to the Barrina ones was remarkable. I also noticed that the Jesled lights gave off almost like a green hue, which might explain why the plants stayed mostly green under them 🤷♀️. I have the white version of the Barrina lights, but they still give off a slight pink hue.
I hope I answered your questions and could be of some help! Anything I didn't answer don't hesitate to ask!
So I have 2 sections of lights, a 2ft section and a 4ft section. 6 rows of lights. I stated out with 6, but found quickly that it was far too much for my seedlings. So I halved it and moved my lights as high as they go. In this picture they're probably 18-22inches above the tops of the seedlings, but right now I have so many seedlings that some are stacked and super close to the lights lol.
These are the lights that I'm using:

I have these ones https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B082ZL1Q63/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I really like them. I have three 2 foot section of my shelve. I am getting stress colours and compact growth. Some of my plants are a couple inches from the lights but this works for me. Let me know if you want anymore information. 🙂
No problem… they are the strip tubes, they work really nice for shelves.. I’ll link you the exact ones I purchased off amazon..
Barrina Grow Light, 144W(6 x 24W, 800W Equivalent), 2ft T8, Super Bright, Full Spectrum Sunlight Plant Light, LED Grow Light Strips, Grow Light Bulbs for Indoor Plants, Greenhouse, 6-Pack grow lights
Ah! I didn't know they had those. I have their their white full spectrum, but like I said, still a pinkish hue.
Great for my hybrid project, but not for really enjoying them.
This is what I use. But I'd love like what you have just to actually enjoy.
Barrina and Feit are good brands!

Feit: check Home Depot!
I honestly don’t think those stick lights do a whole lot. I would stick with some higher quality lights. I like the brands Feit and Barrina:)

Picked these up on Amazon over a year ago, hing them from hooks on a wooden shelf, my basil, lettuce, and jalapeño plants are growing like crazy.

I would go as far as to drape the entire shelf in mylar. Just reflecting the kids got down isn't going to give you much more but if you definitely can't afford more until later, might as well go all out? My personal recommendation is Barrina on Amazon. Six 2-foot lights are $50. I forget what you paid before but this is what I use and they come with aluminum reflectors and every type of mounting hardware you could want. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B082ZL1Q63/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_49NH9YJS0HPD0J4H9143

I was told that the T5's are pretty good too. I got the T8 and love em. Easy to install and my plants are loving them already, especially with the winter creeping upon us here
I actually have a cheap one I got off Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B082ZL1Q63?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share It came with six 2' long strips and I managed to snag them for $40 which was one of the cheapest I could find at the time. I have a coworker who bought some cheap shop lights at Walmart for her succulents and house plants that she says works well. Some people have what spectrum you need, how many watts and lumens you need at whatever distance away for however long down to a tee. I just play with it. I've had my plants growing successfully for over a year now with a lot of trial and error. I wouldn't listen too carefully to all these people who treat lighting as an art form because they don't have the same opinions all across the board and you don't know which one you should follow. Maybe buy a cheap strip if it doesn't work send it back. Maybe try a Walmart shop light or any other light you stumble upon. Like I said to the OP try to avoid single bulbs because they just have ever worked for me. But maybe they will for you so you could give that shot. In my experience, If that's the only light they're getting I wouldn't recommend using it because no matter how long I left my plants under, they just didn't look healthy.
There are grow lights with little reflectors by this same brand. After spending way too long trying to find the “right” light I just got these. Working fine for me after experimenting with how high to have them. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B082ZL1Q63/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_N5G201XXJYH74ZXQ9TX1
I actually used an aquarium plant grow light and suspended it above some of my most precious succulents and now they grow like crazy. When I had the red/blue ones my succulent really suffered. It supports what the other person mentioned about red/blue being better for seedlings.
Aquarium lights tend to be good because they're intended to be the sole light the plants would receive. I went really hard and bought a FugeRay Planted+ light, but there are much cheaper ones. Any aquarium plant light will work (just make sure it says its for plants).
I recently got these Barrina grow lights and my FLF grew 2 new buds in a week (after 9 months of nothing).
Whatever you end up choosing, I downloaded a plant light meter onto my phone to measure how much light my grow lights were giving off. I put it under the grow light for my FLF on the first leaf and was surprised that its considered only partial sun (especially since the lights seem so bright!) That was an eye opener.
That helps, and I just went through this. I had been just growing seedlings but have moved into starting flowers in the middle of winter to get lush planters ready to go in May.
If you want to grow plants to maturity you generally need to get into the more serious lights and can expect to pay $1.00/watt or more. I like the Spider Farmer and Mars Hydro brands. The prime customers for these are cannabis growing, but they work great for veggies and flowers too. In general the Spider lights are a little better spectrum and efficiency but the Mars lights are going to be cheaper. I purchased a TSL 2000 Mars Hydro light. Roughly $300. It can give a diffuse sunlight level of light on 15 square feet, enough for me to prep a dozen containers and hanging baskets. I love this light and am currently using it to start my garden plants. I have to turn it to 50% power to keep from frying my seedlings. Thes manufacturers have a broad range of lights so if you only want a couple plants you can get something that will cover a smaller area for $110 to $150 or so.
In case you change your mind and you want to grow seedlings only, a well reviewed light (non-paid reviews) that people seem to like is the Barrinas. I would look at this one. They're well under $0.50/watt and are a reasonable spectrum. With that set of 6 you can light 4-5 1020 trays of seedlings if you can position them appropriately. I like the individual fixtures because you get the freedom of positioning each one for best light distribution. I don't have these, but if I had to get some seedling-only lights right now they would be my choice.

Honestly it was really easy to setup, the cabinet itself was like 1.5 hours. Lights and drilling the holes 20 minutes. Two of the lights in the top shelf makes it a little warm, 83 degrees or so. Going to install a couple of CPU fans (like 15$ on Amazon) and drill two more holes for intake and exhaust. We should be good then 🙃

the problem is that they do not include reflectors and I cannot find a single listing with the proper reflectors.
I was looking around in the US version of amazon to find better lights and pay extra for the shipping.
so far I have my eyes on two, both seem to have good reviews but they differ in their spectrum a little bit with one even supposedly having IR included.
Can you do me a favour and check both? not sure which one is better.
Pinkish white version of the ones I have. Kelvin number is unknown.
Seems to be a bit less power, but better spectrum is supposedly IR included
Thanks!

I agree. They should be able to take more light. How do they survive in the wild ?
I recently purchased Barrina full spectrum grow lights to winter my succulents.
I found very quickly that I could not have any of my Haworthia directly under the lights or they would start turning darker within a day. So I have had to put them a foot or so to the side or away from the LEDs.
My plans are to slowly move them closer and try to acclimate them to the higher light levels.
Thank you! I bought the Barrina ones from Amazon that were listed on the grow light post here. They are the 2ft T8 full spectrum grow lights.
I have shelves that are 2ft long and about 1ft deep with two of these light strips on each shelf. These particular leaf props are actually very close to the lights. I had no where to put them so I hung a tiny rope shelf on the wall behind my shelves. I know that probably makes no sense so I'll try to add one of those imgur pictures. I was worried they would burn but they are actually my best looking leaf props yet!

Are these ok, or should I change it up? I already had them on a plant rack that I had
I put my plants under growing lights recently, and it looks like the plants just stop growing. Should I worry about it?

Do you by chance have a link to the lights?
I took a chance on these Barrina lights from Amazon(.ca) and I'm impressed. I'm only using two of the 6 and they still seem to be doing the job.
