I own these tactical boots from Bates:
I've used them for at least 3 years, I'd say the soles are about 2/3rds used but I do manual labor all day. They're comfortable in all temperatures, breathe well, good support, etc.
If you don't need boots, they also make various styles of shoe.
Because morons like you assume that people who don't want to be anally scoped by the government must have done something wrong.
Order yourself a pair of boots to lick.
I know you don't want to break the bank, but be careful in how cheap you go in trying to save money on your feet. This is a job where you can be on your feet for 8 or more hours a shift, multiple shifts in a row. Where you might save a few bucks on boots at first, you either will spend it on replacing poor quality footwear, or worse on medical care for you due to any myriad of issues.
I am partial to the Bates brand, and there is a whole spectrum of stuff in their lineup, but Amazon has some decent discounts on their stuff if you know your size. Go to the store and try a couple pairs on of different brands and see how they fit first, otherwise Amazon / Zappos return policy is pretty easy especially on footware.
We've worn / issued the GX-8s for about 7 years now, and I am on my 3rd pair. Never worn the ultra lites but I have heard a lot of good things. They are one model down from the 8s as far as I can tell.
