I wear Bates composite toe with side zip. Very light weight, warmer because no steel toe, ANSI rated, not terribly pricy, easy on/off and very comfortable. I buy the desert tan because they are cheaper than the black ones, avail in a couple of other colors, too. I wear wool socks with them and sock liners if I'm going to be working outside all day, stay warm.
Have a look at some military tactical style boots. I've seen colleagues working on the roof wearing Bates and similar.
Something like this for example. These typenof boots usually come with lining but they're not waterproof as in having a wareproof membrane.
I've hadthese Blundstones Blundstone slip ons, they're not waterproof, they have no lining, no waterproof membrane...but they're steel toed. They weren't bad. I would still sweat though since the boots were black atracting all the heat when I was out in the sun.
Also I was looking to get these Timbs before buying the KEEN Lansing I'm wearing now.
Hope it helps👍🏼
