Hey! don't give up. growing that 12 month old beard must've been a huge challenge.
Have you tried brushing it out using a bristle brush? it helps get the hair stands to get used to growing "long" rather than to the sides.
There are many products to help, you don't need them ALL but maybe try using the beard shampoo or oil to soften it, brush it out and then comb it with a little beeswax beard balm.
doing those things might help you tame the face beast a little

Beard oil for sure.
Also, don't ever wash your beard with bar soap. Wash it using a shampoo designed for beards. It makes a difference.
After washing, always hydrating using a couple of drops of oil (depending on how long the hairs are. Mainly get it on the root of the bristles. )

Remember that everyone's skin is different in terms of texture, sensitivity, etc. You might need to try a few products before finding the one that works best for you. Whichever brand of product you use, make sure it contains natural ingredients and no artificial additives such as silicone. That clogs up your pores and has negative effects on the beard and skin.
Good luck :)
you can use a softening beard shampoo that will help you tame the thick hairs better. After a shower, apply some oil and comb it from the top to the bottom. If you use a beard wax, it will be even better since it will keep your freshly combed beard in shape.

It all depends on the quality of the oil you were using. Or maybe it contains an ingredient your skin is sensitive to. Also, are you shampooing with bar soap or hair shampoo? That can also cause blemishes since it dries the skin. Those soaps are too harsh for the face, it strips your skin of its natural oils.
Usually, natural beard oils clean out the pores and prevent blemishes from happening. It's a new concept that oil cleans the face. The difference is that blemishes are caused by clogged pores, it can be dirt or any other particle that clogs it and then the natural sebum of the skin collects, causing a tiny infection thus a pimple.
I wrote a beard article based on the ingredients of a good product. here is a quote " coconut oil rich in lauric acid known for its antimicrobial properties, leaving your beard refreshed as well as allowing the oil to penetrate the skin easily without leaving a greasy residue."
Cheap oils contain additives such as silicone which clogs the pores. There are many brands online that are good, natural, organic, etc. Don't cheap out for sure.
